Who: Magnus Bane & Rangiku Matsumoto What: Yet Another Conversation Over Coffee When: Thursday, November 14th. Morning Where: Coffee Shop Rating: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Coffee shops seemed to be the one place Magnus always met up with people; whether they were his friends and they’d made specific plans to meet there or random meetings, it almost always seemed to be coffee shops. Of course the beach was as close exception seeing as how he’d met both Alec and Isabelle on the beach. Normally after his morning runs Magnus would go home and shower and change then have coffee, but this morning, he’d decided to deviate from the norm and instead of running on the beach, he’d run to the nearest coffee shop because he knew he was out of coffee. Unlike in the summer, when Magnus would wear pretty much just a pair of fairly short running shorts, now that it was a little cooler in the mornings, Magnus opted for a pair of slightly longer running shorts and a t-shirt. Of course the t-shirt looked like a second skin, but that was just the way he was. He might have been off the market, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t flaunt himself a little bit. Wasn’t that his job after all? Being a model, he flaunted himself constantly at shoots, so what was the difference when he went running?
But yes, coffee shops seemed to be the one place he constantly ran into people and this morning was no different. Upon entering the shop, he recognized the woman he’d spoken to a few times on Valarnet; after all, how could anyone miss her? Again, Magnus was off the market, but he wasn’t dead. He still admired a good looking person and Rangiku was definitely good looking. Getting in line behind her, Magnus smirked, “So, how have the dreams been treating you?” He didn’t wait to get her attention, but simply spoke, wanting to see her reaction.
Rangiku was pretty hard to miss. Blonde hair a mile long. A chest that stuck out just about as far. And she wasn’t shy about it, either, she was dressed in a black button up shirt that hugged every curve, although she’d had to improve the buttons before wearing it on a more constant basis. Sometimes her chest was such a pain all around. She often stumbled across people in coffee shops - it seemed all of those she associated with needed caffeine in some fashion, after all.
She had been minding her own business when he came up and spoke to her. Although thankfully she didn’t have her coffee in hand and when she jumped out of surprise, she didn’t dump anything allover. She canted her head backwards to look at him, before turning enough to face him and give him her attention. “Oh to be honest half of them make me heartbroken the other half make me fall in love all over again.” her eyes went a little wide, well shit. She hadn’t meant to say that. But it was the truth. “You?”
Magnus couldn’t help but smirk a bit as she answered his question, “Mine have been pretty interesting. Most recent ones have taken place in 1878 in London. Seems that anyone only ever comes to me when they need help with something. While it’s pretty annoying, it’s also somewhat amusing to mess with certain people in the dreams.” Watching Will’s face when he’d kissed him had been extremely amusing for Magnus both in and out of the dreams, “And I apologize if that was at all intrusive, as you can see, I have a penchant for finding certain things amusing in the real world as well.” Of course Magnus had realized that there was a possibility that just like him, Clary and a number of others, Rangiku might have been forced to tell the truth.
“Well that’s an interesting time frame for them to occur. I really don’t know when mine have been, timewise. Although they have certainly been interesting, far too much to be fair. And Apparently I like to dream out of order.” she rolled her eyes then clamped a hand over her mouth. then sighed. “Oh this is going to be an interesting week isn’t it?” she laughed softly. “Don’t worry about it. I think that oversharing is going to be the norm for awhile, today I just can’t stop telling people things exactly as they are in my head. I mean, normally I don’t shy from that but I generally have some semblance of tact.” Which was true. She did know when to be tactful. She generally wasn’t. But that was okay, too. She smiled at him and paused to order a coffee, before looking back at him. “Otherwise how are things?”
“Mine have been out of order as well. I’m a Warlock in mine, which makes me immortal, so time has jumped around quite a lot.” Magnus’ yellow cats eyes should have been the first sign that he wasn’t exactly human, but considering people could make their eyes look like his by wearing contacts not as many people were shocked by it as he’d originally thought they would. He’d spoken about them enough times on Valarnet too that any other dreamers shouldn’t have been too shocked by them, which Rangiku didn’t seem to be, “Oh, it should definitely be an interesting week. I usually say what I think, but it all depends on who I’m talking to.” He waited for Rangiku to order then placed his own order and handed over his card, “It’s on me for deliberately prying.” He smirked a moment before answering her question, “Aside from the dreams things are good. Have a few shoots booked and on the side I’m trying to find a job for my boyfriend after I made him quit his last one.”
“Well at least I’m not alone in the weirdness that is out of order dreams!” she grinned at him. “I don’t actually know what I am yet. Still trying to figure that one out. talk about a mind trip. This? This is why I didn’t ever do drugs in high school.” she laughed softly. Nope, Rangiku wasn’t shocked. Mainly because she never really thought about it. Besides, weirder things in life, right? “Agreed. I’ve made some promises, please don’t ask by the by, that if I spoke of them I’d feel awful, more than awful. And I’m generally straight forward and rather blunt myself, but this is a new level of honesty with the entire world. I do not love it.” she tilted her head downwards in thanks. Rangiku? Argue someone else paying for her? Nope. Never ever. “I wish mine would make me quit mine but he thinks it’s good for me to actually have a job. Heaven knows I am no good at having any job. I shouldn’t be allowed responsibility. I rather miss the summer photoshoots instead of this foodservice thing. I was not meant to work. Not like this.” she huffed a bit before adding. “Why’d you make him quit?”
“Photoshoots? Were you a model?” It would be quite a coincidence if she was, considering he currently was. Magnus had met an awful lot of other models since moving to Orange County, but that wasn’t really a big surprise, this was California after all. He didn’t mind telling her why he’d asked Alec to quit his job, he just hoped that she didn’t think he was an awful person for it, “He was a dancer at a gay club. I had no problem with the dancing or the skimpy outfits he wore, but I started to become rather jealous about the other men who touched him when they tipped him.” He just couldn’t help it; Magnus wanted to be the only person touching Alec, “He wasn’t happy about it, but he quit and now he’s stopped looking for another job and I know he isn’t very happy at the moment, so I’ve been trying to find something for him.”
She waved a hand idly. “ We’ll be blunt, I did mostly lingerie and swimwear. Gotta use what I got.” she grinned a bit and rolled her eyes. “Although people get so uppity when I tell them, no they’re real, they’re all mine and please don’t poke them to find out if I’m lying or not.” she shook her head a bit. “Oh no I can understand that. I’d be a little twitchy too, I can’t imagine watching someone touch my other half even briefly in the manner that was probably going on there - I doubt it was innocent right?” she tilted her head at him. “Poor thing, I hope he realizes it’s not the end of the world and he’ll find something he enjoys just as much.”
“Men’s modeling isn’t all that different. Anytime I’ve done an underwear ad I’m constantly asked if I’ve got a pair of socks shoved down there.” Magnus smirked, taking a sip of his coffee after they were handed over to them, “Did you quit modeling or are you just between jobs?” Magnus had a few connections, so it was possible that he could help Rangiku if she was still interested in modeling. “He’s in a bit of a funk, because he enjoyed the money he was making there and knows he won’t make that working fast food and dancing helped his confidence.”
“That’s got to be just as annoying.” she laughed softly as she took her coffee. “Just between jobs. Obviously something’s wrong because I’ve only worked once in the last three months, I don’t know what I did wrong. Now I’m stuck knowing exactly how suck fast food work is.” she all but clamped a hand over her mouth. She hadn’t meant to spill out her fears on work like that. It just tumbled freely from her lips. She swallowed a sip of coffee. “No, no he won’t. Even if I wasn’t bound by this place to tell the truth, I’d not even try to lie about that. There’s just no way. I hope he’ll find something he likes… that is less touchy feely.”
“Who are you with?” Magnus asked, wondering why a woman like Rangiku wasn’t getting jobs. She must not have had very good management. “Not only do I know a few people, but there are quite a few other models on Valarnet. If you want, I can talk to a few people.” Honestly, she should have been doing a lot more shoots. “I’ve told him that there’s more than fast food, but he doesn’t want to do anything else. It’s a little frustrating actually.” Whether or not Magnus would have let that slip even if he wasn’t compelled to tell the truth, he wasn’t sure.
She rattled off the name, someone her parents had gotten ahold of when she was still in high school. It was not someone that was fantastic at managing her talents. “Oh?” she canted her head at him. “I hadn’t actually noticed, got a little distracted with the dreams.” she ran a hand through her hair nervously. “I’d love that, I really enjoyed that work. And my best friend is my stylist, he’s more concerned about my skin care regime than I am half the time. Thank god for him, I say. He keeps me looking as good as possible. Even if I am a bit of a pain to him.” she smiled gently. “There’s quite a lot besides fast food! Although I don’t know what would suit him best, maybe if there was a club with the whole no touchy rules? Sorry I wish I could be more useful. It sounds like a trying situation. But I can tell you care.”
Magnus nodded, “My boyfriend’s cousin is one of them actually. And that’s understandable, sometimes everything else gets pushed to the wayside when the dreams decide to throw a wrench into things.” Magnus remembered how unnerved he’d been after his first couple of dreams. “Do you have a headshot or anything at home? I’d be happy to talk to a few people for you. I’m sure there’s something out there for you.” He smiled and took another sip of his coffee, “I do care. It’s the reason I’ve kept looking even though he’d stopped.” He was sure that there was something out there for Alec.
“Fascinating!” she smiled warmly. “The dreams have been rather distracting, then the no talking thing was a fun week, and now this. I don’t know how anyone gets anything done around here with all the crazy.” she rolled her eyes a bit. “I have an entire portfolio at home, headshot included. I wouldn’t be upset if you did. I like working with a friend, but it’s not the same and I rather enjoyed the work.” she smiled at him before sipping from her coffee. “Hopefully he can see that, then. He means a lot to you, hopefully he’ll come around to understanding that”
