Who: Finn and Margaery What: Meeting up Where: Cafe When: Early November Rating: Low/None Status: Complete
Margaery was looking forward to seeing Finn again, she just hoped his dreams had been giving him a break. She had seen his post on the net so knew he had been affected by the latest round of crazy that had been happening around the county and she hoped he was now okay. She could imagine how scary it would be to wake up without a voice and knew the reality must have been much worse.
The whole being unable to speak thing had been extremely odd for Finn. It wouldn’t have been so bad if he’d been able to make some kind of sound, but he’d been completely silent just like all the other people who had been affected by whatever it was that made these strange things happen. Then there was the fact that the Sage from his dreams had recently shown up on the Valarnet. He still wasn’t sure what he thought of her, but he knew that in the dreams they’d loved each other. When Margaery had suggested they get together Finn had accepted, because it would help him to take his mind off Sage for a little while.
Walking into the cafe they’d planned on meeting in, Finn took a look around for the other girl.
Margaery was sat on a quiet table on one side of the cafe, seeing Finn enter she gave a little wave as she caught his eye, “Hi, it is good to see you” she said in greeting, “How are you now?”
Finn smiled when he saw Margaery and headed towards the table, taking the seat across from her, “I’m doing much better. Thank you. How’re you doing?” The last time they’d met, which had also been the first time, Finn had been upset over his dream about Henrik, but he was trying to put that behind him.
“I am glad to hear it” she told him honestly, “I am very well thank you, looking forward to a break from university if I am truthful” Margaery’s workload had steadily increased lately and while she could handle it she would welcome a rest from it all.
Finn nodded, “I’m sure you are. At least you don’t have much longer to go until you get a break,” At least Finn assumed that she’d have a break for Christmas. That was how most colleges worked anyway, “And you brother and grandmother are alright after the whole silence incident?” Finn didn’t really know what to call what had happened a few weeks earlier, but he recalled that Margaery had said that her brother and grandmother had both been affected.
Margaery smiled, “Christmas cannot come soon enough” she joked before nodding, “They are fine now thank you” she answered, “My brother’s fiance looked after him so I shared the worry with him”
“That’s good to hear,” Finn said, spotting a waitress and flagging her down so he could order a tea; sometimes one needed a break from coffee, “When are they getting married? My sister will be getting married this month.” Finn was extremely happy for Rebekah and was glad that he’d come back to Orange County when he did, not that he would have skipped his baby sister’s wedding even if he hadn’t, but coming back had given him the opportunity to get to know Stefan. “They haven’t settled on a date yet” she told him, “But they have just moved in together so I think they’ll just enjoy that for a little while. Oh how lovely, is she getting married here or going away?” she asked interestedly.
“They’re getting married in Lake Tahoe.” Finn was very much looking forward to Rebekah’s wedding, but was also dreading the possibility of Mikaelson family drama. None of them really got on well with their father, but Rebekah wasn’t going to make matters worse by not having him walk her down the aisle. “And that’s wonderful for your brother and his fiance. Have they been together long?”
“Oh how beautiful, that’s going to be a lovely setting” Margaery smiled, “They’ve been together almost a year and a half now” Margaery replied, not wanting to go into details about their time of separation, besides it didn’t really count since it had been against Renly’s will and neither had stopped loving the other. “And your sister and her fiance?”
“It should be, yes.” Finn smiled just thinking about the wedding. “A little over two years, I think.” There were still so many details that Finn wasn’t positive about, having been away for as long as he had, “Their daughter is almost two and I don’t think they were together very long before my sister got pregnant. Being away for as long as I was, I missed quite a bit.” Perhaps it sounded like he didn’t care enough to find out specific details, but with five siblings there were just so many details.
Margaery nodded, “Sometimes the most wonderful things happen when they are meant to, despite it not being our plans” she said smiling. It was nice to hear of good things, especially with the bad things that seemed to happen in the county.
Finn nodded in agreement, “I agree wholeheartedly.” He had been surprised to hear that Rebekah was pregnant, when it happened, but after meeting Natalia, he couldn’t imagine her not being a part of their family. “Getting the chance to meet my niece and get to know her has been one of the highlights of coming back. The night of the wedding, I’m actually going to be watching her so my sister and Stefan can enjoy their night.” He was probably going to ask Henrik to join him since Kol and Klaus were more than likely going to be drinking at the reception and wouldn’t be the best co-babysitters afterwards.
“I imagine it has” Margaery smiled, she didn’t have much call for interaction with children here but she had some experience with them thanks to friends back in Sweden who had children. “How lovely of you. I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Children love weddings, they are always running around grinning for the whole night”
“Stefan, my sister’s fiance, thought it would be a good opportunity for me to spend more time with her and unlike my other brothers, I more than likely won’t be drinking at the reception.” Yes, they had met at a bar, but Finn hadn’t had a drink since then and as of right now he wasn’t planning on drinking at the wedding, “Do you have any nieces or nephews?” She had said her brother was engaged, but she didn’t mention any other siblings she might have had.
“Well it is still very good of you and I think your future brother-in-law is right, it will be a good opportunity” she nodded, “I don’t as of yet though I have a few friends with children back in Sweden, they are adorable”
“If and when you do have them, make sure to spend as much time with them as possible. I missed out on Natalia’s first year, because I wasn’t ready to come back yet and I regret that.” Finn knew that it was better for him to have waited like he had, but at the same time he wished that things could have been different, but he had brought that entire thing upon himself, “Were you born in Sweden or did you just grow up there?” It was hard to tell sometimes, because someone didn’t have to be born in a place to adopt their accent.
“Oh I will, I cannot wait. I think Loras and Renly would make such wonderful parents I’m especially excited for them” she admitted, though she had no idea if they had even spoken about that. “I was born and raised in Sweden, when I came here last year it was my first time outside of Europe” she told him, “I am very glad that I did”
“I’ve always wanted to visit Europe.” Finn was sure that, had he not become a junkie, Mikael would have fronted a trip to Europe for him years earlier, but once it had come out that Klaus wasn’t actually Mikael’s, everything had gone down south fast. “Do you miss it?” If he recalled correctly, Margaery had moved out to California because her brother was already there.
“There are some beautiful sights to be seen” Margaery said, and it was true. Most places in Europe were worth a visit and of course there was so much history to be found everywhere. “I do sometimes. Less now than when I first came but I miss my friends still” she found herself admitting.
“I will definitely put Sweden on my list of places to visit if and when I ever make it to Europe.” He hoped that he’d get there someday. It was a dream of his to travel and see the world, “You’ll have to give me a list of things to see when I start planning my trip.” Sure, that could be months or years away, but what he was also saying was that he hoped he and Margaery stayed friends for a long time. At least he thought of them as friends.
She nodded happily, “I will of course do that, I will make sure you can see the hidden gems of my country” she grinned. “You wish to travel a lot in the future?” she asked him. Noting he spoke of them in the future and was happy that he may well become a very good friend in the future.
Finn nodded, “Before the family drama that led to my drug addiction, I’d wanted to travel. My father would have happily funded a trip for me, but then a number of things, including my addiction, took place.” Whether or not he’d told Margaery outright about his past with drugs, he’d spoken of it more than once on Valarnet and Finn wasn’t exactly ashamed of his past or worried about what Margaery would think, so he didn’t try to hide it. “Now, I hope to be able to travel in the near future.”
Margaery knew about his drug addiction, their first conversation on the net he had told her about it. She didn’t hold it against him, everybody had things they had grown and learnt from. “I am sure you will” she told him with a nod, “It is important to follow your heart and do things you dream of doing”
“And hopefully someday I will,” Finn had already proven that he could turn his life around and become a better person, so the next step was to start doing the things that he could have been doing for the past six years had it not been for his drug addiction.
