It had been two long days. Days that Lydia didn’t remember. She didn’t remember them in the dream, and she didn’t remember them now. When she’d had that dream a couple of days ago, about being in the shower, she had been more than a little freaked out. In fact when she had woken up, and been in kind of a stupor. Not knowing what she was doing. In all honesty, she didn’t know up from down. Or what happened after she had woken up.
Except now she was alone in the woods and completely naked. Torn up. Scratched. Her hair was a mess and she was freezing. Completely frozen. Lydia didn’t even know how she hadn’t gotten hypothermia and frozen to death. She should be. She stumbled through the woods when she finally realized she had a clear head. What the hell?
There were two people in front of her. It took her a moment. Guys.
“Hi. Can.. someone.. get me a coat?” She’d said that in her dreams right? It seemed appropriate.
The last few days, since Elena’s car accident had, had Jeremy on edge. Then he’d dreamt that Anna had actually been a vampire and he’d figured it out and if that wasn’t enough, he’d wanted to become one too, because after everything he’d read and see from Anna, he’d become convinced that Vicki had become a vampire too and that she was out there somewhere and that he could find her. He hadn’t told Myrcella about his newest dreams, because he wasn’t sure what is girlfriend would think about dream him having feelings for another girl and wanting to find yet another girl that he’d been in love with. It was all very complicated.
Then there was the fact that in real life he could only tell the truth. It wasn’t too bad, because luckily Elena hadn’t asked him anything incriminating and he didn’t keep much from Stiles anyway. Speaking of Stiles, after everything that had been going on over the last few days, he was glad to have gotten together with his best friend after school and just get high. It was definitely what he’d needed. And considering what was going on with Stiles’ friend Lydia, he needed it too. “I can’t believe that I actually want to become a vampire in my dreams.” He passed the joint back to Stiles just as he heard leaves hustling and looked up to see a naked girl step out into their clearing. As Jeremy stared at her, his brow furrowed and he glanced at Stiles, “Do you see that too?” Great, so now he was seeing things.
Stiles had been pretty on edge when he’d gotten the call that Lydia was missing. At first he thought maybe she’d just left to go somewhere and her parents were just now realizing she was gone, which wasn’t uncommon given her parents inattentiveness. But then he’d started asking around, just in case. Yeah no, Lydia really was gone- missing. And it was his best friend duty to find her, or at least look for her. So he had but to no avail. It made him anxious.
But he wasn’t the only one with problems. Case in point being here with his other best friend getting high and lounging against a fallen tree deep in the woods, one of their usual spots for getting high or drunk. Stiles took the joint and brought it to his lips, inhaling deeply. “Least you’re not a werewolf,” he said on an exhale, making rings with smoke as he blew it out and handed it back. “I mean really, which would you rather be sprouting? Fangs or facial hair?” They’d been at it for awhile, so when Jeremy mentioned the person he was seeing, Stiles lolled his head over to the side and stared for a moment, mellowed and listless. “Lydia? You’re naked. Why are you naked?” He asked, brows furrowed together.
Though seeing her standing there, naked and vulnerable - his best friend - cleared his head a little and, stumbling a bit, the teen got up to shrug out of his hoodie as he walked over to where she stood and held out to help her into it. “Everyone’s been looking for you. What happened?”
Staring blankly at the two of them, Lydia didn’t move or do anything when she saw them. Or when they acknowledged that she was there. She was still a bit out of it herself, though sadly it wasn’t because she was high. She would have rather it been that, but sadly it was. “What?” That was all she said, before she blinked a little and looked at the two of them.
“I don’t.. I don’t know. Stiles? That’s you, right?” she looked over at Jeremy and stared at him. “Do I know you?” She thought she might, but it was still a blank. When Stiles put the hoodie over top of her, she shuddered slightly. “I think I might be sick.” Well duh. She was naked. And frozen.
It wasn’t until Stiles got up that Jeremy realized that the naked girl in front of them was Lydia. Jeremy had met her once or twice, during group things, most recently Magic Mountain before Jeremy had gotten kicked out. He watched as Stiles wrapped his hoodie around Lydia, unsure if he should be doing anything. After another moment or two, he finally snapped out of it and went for his cell phone, “Should I call someone? The police? 911?” He was pretty sure that the hospital was probably the best place for her to go after being out in the woods, naked for two days.
After helping her into his hoodie, he carefully zipped it up and then wrapped his arms around her in an attempt to help warm her up. “Yeah, Lyds, it’s me. It’s Stiles,” he said quietly, his hands running up and down her back, then up and down her arms in an effort to generate some heat. At the question, Stiles looked back at Jeremy, then back to Lydia and nodding. “That’s Jeremy, Gilbert? Elena’s brother? You guys have met before, yeah. And you might be, which is why we should get you to the hospital, so they can check you out.”
Glancing back to Jeremy again, Stiles nodded. “Yeah, her parents first, I think? I can call my dad and let him know we found her. He’ll want to talk to her, probably, to make sure she’s okay, that nothing happened to her. Like kidnapping, you know?” Stiles then turned his attention back to Lydia. “We’re gonna go to my Jeep, okay? It’s not far from here. Think you can walk?”
Oh. It was Stiles. She blinked again and then looked around slightly. “Am I.. where am I?” it was outside, that much she got, but other than that she was totally clueless. Her gaze turned back to Jeremy and then she nodded. “Jeremy. Right. The hospital? We’re not in the hospital? I was at home. Why am I not at home? Where am I?” Hey at least she knew who she was, which was probably an improvement from whatever else was going on with her.
Kidnapping? Hm. That was interesting. “Was I kidnapped?” Slowly she nodded her head and started to walk, though of course they would have to lead her. She could walk, but she was shivering quite a bit. They were about half way to the car before she stopped and looked at them.
“Are you high?”
Jeremy followed as they headed back to his and Stiles’ cars, “I think I have a blanket in my trunk.” He figured Lydia would want something more than just Stiles’ hoodie to cover up with, “Uh...yeah. Just a little.” Or a lot, but Lydia didn’t need to know just how high they really were.
“No, Lydia, we’re in the middle of the woods,” he said, frowning as he led her toward where their cars were parked. He kept one hand along the middle of her back, the other gingerly holding her arm to make sure she wouldn’t trip over anything while they were walking. “I don’t know Lyds. Your mom called looking for you. Everyone’s been looking for you, even my dad.”
“Yeah, that’d be great, thanks,” he said to Jeremy, nodding. “It’ll help keep her warm until we get her to the hospital and get looked at. “Uhh, yeah, we had a rough couple days so, you know, came out to relax.” Which, he belated realized, if he met with his dad tonight he’d be found out.
Her head kind of wobbled a nod a bit. They were high. And they were going to take her to the hospital. Well. This should be fun. “Blankets. Yes please.” Anything to get a bit more warmed up. She was so dirty and just covered in crap. There were twigs and leaves in her hair. She felt like she might cry, except that she was never going to cry in front of someone else.
“I don’t remember how I got to the woods,” she admitted. “I was at home and then the shower.. there was hair and blood and… a hand. A hand grabbed me out of the water. I saw.. dying and then I just.. I ran.” It was slowly coming back to her, at least what happened to her before. Like she was going to tell anyone that they were high.
Jeremy’s brows rose as he listened to what Lydia was saying and part of his brain questioned whether or not this was actually happening. They were high after all. It was possible that they were so high that they were imagining all of this, but somehow Jeremy didn’t think that was the case. As their cars came into view, Jeremy jogged ahead, popping his trunk as he went and got the blanket out, “Here.” He said as he brought it back over to Stiles and Lydia.
Lifting his arm up, Stiles wrapped it around her shoulder, pulling her in against him as they walked. He listened to Lydia, nodding every now and then to show he was listening. “It’s okay, we’ll figure it out, I promise. But right now we’re going to take you to the hospital to get checked out.”
“Thanks, man,” Stiles said as he took the blanket and opened it up before wrapping it around Lydia and then leading her to his jeep. He let go of her for a moment to open the passenger door. “C’mon, lets get you in. I’ll turn on the heat once we get on the road, okay? Make it nice and toasty for you,” he said, reaching up to pick a few leaves and twigs from her hair as he smiled at her.
With the blanket around her some, she felt much better instantly. Maybe one of these days, she’d actually feel warm again. It was possible they were all under the influence of something and this wasn’t happening, though sadly it was. Lydia wished she was high. Though maybe a weird fugue mental state was kind of like that. She didn’t know.
“Sorry you saw me naked,” she mumbled as she climbed into the car and let them pile in next to her or around her or whatever they were going to do. Had she blinked even once this entire time? Doubtful. Warm was good though. She just wanted to be warm.
