Who: Cassandra Cain and Simon aka Raven Darkholme
When: Backdated: End of October
Where: A Restaurant
What: A First Date
Rating: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

To say that Cass was nervous was the understatement of the year. She hadn’t been on an actual date in awhile, considering the last time she’d had one planned, Bod had told her he was moving. She still wasn’t entirely sure if she should be doing this, but her friends were right. She couldn’t fear things like this just because her luck hadn’t been the best so far when it came to guys. Simon was nice and he liked her so she might as well give him a chance. And who knew, it was entirely possible that this time things would start looking up for Cass.

Raven had dressed Simon up really nice, wanting to show Cass that he could be more than scruffy and mysterious. He could look really good in a suit, but she did grow out a teensy bit of stubble, and stared at the mirror until it was just right. Then he drove to the restaurant to meet Cass.

Having had more time before this date, Cass had gone out to get a new outfit so that she’d have something else to wear aside from the black dress she always seemed to wear when she went out. Simon had seen her casual and in gym clothes so she needed to step it up for their date and had worn a black skirt and nice top, but had chosen flats instead of heels, because she was already tall enough and didn’t want to tower over Simon.

Reaching the restaurant, Cass headed inside, sending a text to Simon as she went to let him know she was there.

He headed inside after her. He had to find the table, which wasn’t hard, and it seemed like he couldn’t tear his eyes from her when he saw her. He smoothed out his classy shirt and headed towards the table. “Hey. You look amazing.”

Cass smiled, cheeks flushing slightly at the compliment as she got up to greet him, “You look good yourself.” She so wasn’t good at this sort of thing and wasn’t exactly sure what she was supposed to do now. Did she hug him or just sit back down? Why did this date stuff have to be so complicated for her when it came so naturally to other people.

He seemed to hesitate as well, then took a seat and smiled at her. He fidgeted in his seat and then rested his hands on the table. “How’ve you been?”

“I’ve been good. You?” Sitting there, across from him, Cass wished that they saw more of each other at the gym. Last time they’d seen each other, they’d talked about him showing her what he could do in the gym and she felt bad that they hadn’t followed up on that, but hopefully if this date went well then they could start making more plans and seeing each other more often.

“Been pretty busy with school work, and then my mom was in town visiting so I had to pretend to be nice to her.” He made a face and played with the wrapper of a straw.

“You don’t get along with your mother?” Cass asked before she could stop herself. She didn’t know if it was something he’d want to even talk about, but then again he’d brought it up first. She hadn’t spoken to her own mother in quite some time and it was no secret what had happened with her parents; after all, she was fairly well known and there had been reporters outside after her court date. “I’m sorry, I’m sure that’s getting too personal.”

“Not really. She’s the controlling kind. I’m glad I spent most of my time with my dad. And its okay, I know more about you and about me.” He ducked his head, and looked down at his hands.

Cass nodded in understanding, knowing what that was like thanks to her father. “Time with either of my parents wasn’t really great. My dad made me train the majority of the time and my mom used my money to buy herself stuff.” It had crossed her mind a few times, what her parents were doing now that they didn’t have her money to live off of, but she’d never been curious enough to actually find out. She just hoped that they weren’t broke. She wouldn’t wish that on anyone, “What are you going to school for?”

“Filmmaking, actually,” he said. “Like I want to do those documentary type shoots. It’s pretty tough, like I watched the making of that Planet Earth and it’s hard core the kinds of things they do!”

Cass’s brows rose as he talked about what he wanted to do, “Wow. That’s really impressive. So, why’re you also doing gymnastics?” She was curious and hoped that didn’t come out sounding rude. The last thing she wanted was for him to think she was rude.

“Well it was fun but like I said I don’t want to do it professionally. I need something different, I guess. And maybe I’ll change my mind next week but I’ve been into that stuff for a couple of years now!”

“That’s pretty cool.” Cass said as a waitress came to take their orders. Once she was gone, Cass turned back to Simon and smirked, “Maybe someday you’ll do a documentary on me.” She had to admit, she was feeling a little less nervous than she had when she’d first arrived at the restaurant.

“You’re pretty photogenic, I could probably stare at you through a lense all day.” He flushed a little bit. “That doesn’t sound creepy at all.”

Cass’ cheeks flushed as well, but she smiled at the compliment, “I’ve never broken any cameras, so you might be in luck.” She wrapped a strand of hair around her finger, “But you don’t need to use a camera to look at me.” She may not have been good at this date thing, but she thought she was doing alright.

“We’ll see how it goes though. I’d love to… “ He trailed off and hoped she didn’t think he meant to film her naught-like. But of course, Mystique hoped she did. And the hair wrapping was pretty adorable. Simon rested his cheek on his hands and gazed at her.

Again Cass’ cheeks flushed slightly and she smiled down at the table. This was going a lot better than she’d thought it would, but she could still hear Jubilee’s voice in her head telling her that she totally needed to jump his bones, among other Jubiliee-isums.

As the date continued, they talked about other things and their food was delivered and Cass found herself wishing that the date didn’t have to end, but also found herself hoping that he’d want to see her again, “I’ve had a really good time tonight. It’s been nice to relax and have a nice night.”

“Yeah, it was really awesome!” He wondered if he could play his cards right, or if he’d have some trouble. It couldn’t hurt to fish a little. “I’m not sure I want to go home yet.”

She hadn’t expected that, but she had to agree; she didn’t want to go home yet either. Especially not now that she was living alone since Violet had left. “Did you have something in mind?” She asked, curious as to what he was thinking.

“I was hoping you would,” he admitted sheepishly. He scratched at his stubble, then said, “How about a walk at the beach? Too cold to swim but it might still be nice.”

“Yeah, okay. That sounds good to me,” Cass said, smiling across at him. She hadn’t been to the beach since the bonfire a few months earlier, so a walk on the beach sounded like a nice idea.

“All right. Lets take my car.” He grinned at her. This would be a good walk. Probably not sex on the beach, but a good walk. And a little closer to ripping her heart out for lulz. Mystique does it all for the lulz….

“Okay. As long as we come back for mine. I’ll need it to get to the gym in the morning,” She was going to be exhausted in the morning, but she didn’t really care. Spending a little more time with Simon was worth it. She’d just crash when she got home in the afternoon. Once dinner was paid for and they were ready to leave, Cass gestured for Simon to go on ahead, “Lead the way.” After all, she didn’t know exactly where he’d parked.
