Renly laid back on Loras’ bed, staring up at the ceiling; he couldn’t wait until Loras’ room was also his room back at his house, but for now Loras was still living with Obi-Wan and Margaery and they were currently waiting for Obi-Wan to come home so they could ask him something. Since they’d worked things out after their argument last month, Renly and Loras had been talking about their wedding, but still hadn’t actually set a date or made very many decisions. However, one thing they had decided upon was what they were waiting to ask Obi-Wan about.
Neither of them were very religious despite Renly having been raised Catholic and since the dreams, Renly had been thinking a lot about the various religions of Westeros, so deciding on who exactly would marry them had been something they were going to put on the backburner until somehow it had come up that they should ask one of their friends to do it. They could get ordained on the internet and it’d be someone they knew and trusted. It had been a short list and eventually they had agreed upon Obi-Wan.
“What do you think he’ll say?” Renly asked, sitting up again, glancing over to where Loras was, to see what he was doing.
Loras blocked any view Renly had with his body, his palms coming down to either side of Renly’s hips. He tilted a kiss to Renly’s mouth. “That he wants video of the honeymoon,” he joked, then kissed Renly again. “That’s if he even comes home.” Obi-Wan had a habit of disappearing, or turning into animals, forever unpredictable was Obi-Wan Kenobi. That was what made Obi-Wan so special, Loras though, or at least part of it.
One thing that Loras could at least halfway predict was, “I’m sure he’ll say yes.”
“I’m sure there are a few people who wouldn’t turn down video of the honeymoon,” Renly smirked and returned Loras’ kiss, bringing a hand up to run through his fiance’s hair, “And I’m sure he’ll eventually come home. All his things are here, so I doubt he’ll skip town.” But Loras was right; Obi-Wan was pretty unpredictable at times. Renly hadn’t known him long, but he already knew that. “I hope he does. It will make things easier, plus he’s your best friend, so it only makes sense.”
“You don’t know Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Loras said, somewhere between amused and annoyed. He stood up again, holding his hand down to his fiance. If Obi-Wan came home, they probably shouldn’t be in the bedroom. It was too easy to begin Doing Things that didn’t involve discussion of weddings. “You realize that we’re taking the dogs,” he said off handedly. As if they knew they were being talked about, all three of them lifted their heads, ears perked up from where they lay waiting in the hallway like good, giant beasts that they were.
Renly took Loras’ hand and let his fiance pull him to his feet. It was true, if they stayed in Loras’ bedroom then they were bound to start doing unwedding discussion things. They had very bad self control most of the time when they were in the bedroom. When Loras mentioned the dogs, Renly glanced out into the hall where they were. He’d sort of thought that since there were three dogs, Obi-Wan, Margaery and Loras would each take one. He hadn’t thought they were taking all three, “No, I hadn’t actually realized that.”
“Surprise?” Loras tried. It was the best deal all around, really. It would keep the three of them together, around at least one of the people who raised them. Maybe he and Obi-Wan could split the custody. “Gods, it’s like divorcing one and marrying another,” he joked. When he realized it might be taken the wrong way, he bit gently on Renly’s bottom lip, saying nothing else as he started down the stairs, Renly’s hand in his own.
Obi-Wan had walked home from Faiza’s, which was not a short walk. Being an Jedi didn’t make one superhuman, but it did enhance one’s physical abilities, meaning he wasn’t winded, as if it had only been a quick jaunt around the block.
In fact, the old man was humming to himself. There was a grin on his face that seemed almost out of place, since he usually kept his smiles such a secret. He was human again, but that was almost a small part of it. Obi-Wan was far more proud of himself for finally asking Faiza about moving in. She’d said yes. The celebration had been sublime ...which was why he’d ultimately stayed the night and was only just getting home now.
No, not home. This house was something else now. Casa Tynobi no more. Obi-Wan paused on the walk and thought about this, and his smile didn’t wholly fade as he did so.
“I suppose it’s a good thing we’ll be living on the beach, which will give them plenty of space to run around.” Renly said as he followed Loras out into the hall. He didn’t mind bringing the dogs with them, because his place really was bigger than one might think and the yard and the beach was plenty big enough for them to run off all their excess energy. When Loras bit at his bottom lip, Renly couldn’t help but smirk and shake his head slightly as they headed down the stairs, “Stop trying to turn me on before we ask Obi-Wan to marry us. That is just mean, you know.”
Speak of the devil, as some people might say…
Loras stopped at the bottom of the stairs where Obi-Wan stood still. For a moment, his heart ached. He wasn’t losing Obi-Wan, but they were moving on, or rather, they were moving out and Loras felt a pang of regret over it. Fleeting as it was, it was still powerful as he began to remember what it was like to live with the man who’d become his closest friend. From their fights, to their times spent in a bed in a hotel room out of state, watching movies featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi. They’d been through seemingly everything together, including going off into space to save the world.
He bit back against his lip, releasing his fiance’s hand as the flood of emotion began to retreat again. “Obi,” he said, “are you just standing around in the middle of the living room for any particular reason?” Gods, he hoped Obi-Wan hadn’t been kidnapped and given a lobotomy or something. With the Jedi Master, Loras never really knew, and he supposed that was one of the reasons he liked staying here so much.
His keys were still in his hands and they jingled loudly as he finally transferred them into his pockets. He was in need of a haircut after so many weeks of being an animal, and that included his beard. Truthfully, Obi-Wan looked a bit like a homeless man, but his eyes cleared as he blinked them. “Momentarily lost in thought. Hello, Renly,” he greeted.
“Hi Obi-Wan,” Renly smiled in greeting, placing his hands into the pockets of his jeans once Loras had let go, but he removed them a moment later to run one hand down the center of Loras’ back comfortingly., seeing that his fiance was even the tiniest bit upset and rightly so; everything was changing for him, “Bet you’re happy to be on two feet again.”
“How are you feeling, kitty kitty?” Loras teased, his fingers tickling under Obi-Wan’s chin the way he would a cat. He tried to imagine Obi-Wan as a cat and realized that Obi-Wan was like a cat in many ways, only he was more like a cat with tape on its paws, annoyed and yet still walking around with a sense of pride that ignored the fact that there was tape on his paws, despite his legs kicking.
Had he a window into Loras’s mind, Obi-Wan might have taken a swipe at him, tape or none. But his expression remained pleasant and a little dopey. “Hungry,” he replied. It had been a long walk. He made his way toward the kitchen, still getting his bearings around the house, like someone who had been away on a long vacation.
Renly laughed as he watched Loras and Obi-Wan interact then followed them into the kitchen, “Understandable. Fancy Feast can’t be that filling.” He smirked as he took a seat at the kitchen table, still watching Loras and Obi-Wan as he did so.
They could dawdle around this all day. Obi-Wan was a cat, they were going to joke about it, and Loras was going to wonder just how Obi-Wan would have been able to escape their three very rambunctious boxers, each of which were watching the three men in the kitchen with tilted heads and perked ears. “Obi,” Loras started, leaning back against a counter top with his hands behind him, holding the edge of the polished granite. “How would you like to marry us?”
The boxers themselves were still looking at Obi-Wan a bit cockeyed. Perhaps they could smell the cat on him.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t a stretch to react as if Loras had just invited him into a three-person relationship, at least for the purposes of a good laugh. Obi-Wan chuckled to himself. Then, he paused and tilted his head, which was already in the refrigerator. He slowly raised himself from a crouch and peered at them over the door. “You mean… officiate?”
Leave it to Loras to cut right to the chance. Renly could have come up with some wise-ass response to Obi-Wan’s question, but he was sure that Loras would give him some sort of look so instead, Renly simply nodded, “Yeah. It’d save us time trying to find a priest or minister or whatever who would do it. Plus neither of us are exactly religious and you could get ordained over the internet. And you’re Loras’ best friend, so who better to do it?”
Loras was about to say that Obi-Wan was mad, and of course they wanted to marry him, but Renly had to go and spoil the fun. Loras may have been pouting. He certainly wouldn’t have complained if his fiance was a wise ass just then. The Knight of Flowers batted his eyes as the Jedi Master. “I’ll be your best friend,” he cooed.
Obi-Wan closed the door, his head still tilted and his eyes slightly wide as he regarded Loras--who already was his best friend--and Renly. There was a pause before he began to reply, though not a hesitation. A smile tugged one of the corners of his mouth. “Really?”
Of course when Loras wouldn’t have minded Renly teasing that was when Renly decided to be serious. He did smirk a little at the pout on Loras’ lips and got up to join his fiance, wrapping an arm around his waist as he nodded, “Yes, really.” He paused for a moment, “So, will you?”
For a few moments, fleeting as they were, Loras thought Obi-Wan might say no or that he’d have to think about it, but when he saw Obi-Wan’s smile, he was certain his friend would say yes. His fingers laced in with Renly’s while as he waited for Obi-Wan’s answer.
In the room, the mood wasn’t tense, but it was pregnant with anticipation. Even the dogs were seemed to be waiting with their tails unmoving. Obi-Wan folded his arms. “What would I have to do? A class? Some sort of training?”
“Pretty sure you just have to find one of the websites where you can get ordained.” Renly wasn’t exactly sure how it was done, but that was what he’d heard people talk about. He’d never heard of a class or anything like that for people who were just getting ordained to perform weddings. He squeezed Loras’ hand as they waited for Obi-Wan’s final decision.
It went without saying that Loras and Renly would pay for whatever Obi-Wan would need. Looking at his friend, who’d been a cat recently, that sadness began to creep up again. They were both moving on. Even though they’d remain best friends, not living together and being with people they loved was just different. He kept it to himself, though, and he smiled against the swell of emotion that was telling him that everything was changing and it was changing almost too quickly for him.
Obi-Wan’s own throat had tightened, perhaps subconsciously. The request before him was enough for the moment. Later, on his bed, he would reflect and feel the same sadness. He’d tell Loras that he was moving in the Faiza later.
“Of course,” he finally said. “Of course I will.”
Renly knew that while Loras was looking forward to moving in with him, he was sad about all the changes that it meant so he’d make a point to talk to him about it later. When Obi-Wan agreed, a grin spread across Renly’s lips, “Really? Thank you.” In that moment, he couldn’t help himself and released Loras’ hand to move forward and hug Obi-Wan. “This really means a lot to Loras.” He said so that only Obi-Wan could hear.
It did mean a lot to Loras and he hoped that it meant a lot to Renly, too. He released Renly’s hand in return and watched as his fiance embraced his best friend. It warmed him to see it and when it was released, Loras went to Obi-Wan and pressed his lips to his friend’s, chaste, his arms going around the man’s shoulders. He loved Obi-Wan more than words could say. Not in the way he loved Renly, but it was deep and almost painful most of the time. Now it just felt good. “You smell like cat,” he teased.
