At the end of the workweek, Mary's heart was always heavier than on Monday morning. It was the reverse of the norm, she knew, but the weekend couldn't provide her with the distractions she so desperately needed to stay afloat. She still hadn't made many friends--except through the computer. It was easier to talk to people through a screen. (Shopping online, however, was utterly unsatisfactory.)
With an audible sigh, she walked down the street from her office, toward the coffee shop where she always stopped before finally driving home. She'd get the same tea she always ordered for the ride. The pimply barista would flirt with his eyes, despite how clearly hers forbade him making his intentions vocal. So far, he hadn't dared to speak. Then she'd sit for a moment, play with her phone, shuffle through old photos... Her Friday routine.
