Who: Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase
What: Their first college party
When: Backdated: Saturday, October 19th. Evening
Where: A House on Campus
Rating: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

The college party that Percy and Annabeth had been planning to go to had been postponed over something that had happened at the house where it was being held, so on the night the party had been postponed to Percy was on his way over to Annabeth’s dorm to get her so that they could finally go to their first college party. He didn’t know what to expect, after all the movies he’d seen that included college parties, but at least he wasn’t going alone. Annabeth would be there, so he wouldn’t feel like too much of a wallflower.

Ever since the whole superpowers thing or whatever it had been, Percy had been wanting to tell Annabeth about his crush, but he was afraid that she didn’t feel the same way and he would just wind up ruining everything. He didn’t know if she’d read that from his mind the day he’d gone over to bring her homework and was just being nice by not saying anything or what. Either way, he’d donned his nicest pair of jeans, a grey t-shirt and navy blue hoodie for the party, not really sure how he was supposed to dress and hoped that Annabeth wasn’t too dressed up. He didn’t want to look like a shlub. Reaching Annabeth’s dorm, he entered the building and went down to her room where he knocked at the door and waited.

Annabeth had asked some of the girls around the floor what kind of outfit she should be wearing and they told her not to go too fancy. So, she was dressed in skinny jeans, ankle boots, and a lovely cardigan. Her hair was done up a little bit more than usual and she felt like she looked pretty good and hopefully Percy would agree as well. She was fixing her make up one last time when she heard the knock on the door. She quickly placed the lipstick on the counter as she went to answer and smiled brightly at Percy, “Hey there! Are you ready to officially become college students?” It seemed almost like a right of passage according to all the teen movies they had seen and she was kind of excited to be doing something like this.

When Annabeth answered the door, Percy couldn't help but stare just a little bit. He'd seen pictures of her dressed up before, but never in person and he was a little awestruck and hoped that it wasn't obvious. "You look good," he finally managed to say so that it wouldn't be so obvious that he had been staring. When Annabeth's words registered, he nodded, "As ready as I'll ever be."

The fact that he was speechless colored her cheeks as she bit her lip due to nervousness. Well, that had to be a good sign, right? And he only confirmed it with his comment and her face broke into a bright smile, “Aw, thank you so much. And let’s get going before we get cold feet.” She grabbed her purse by the door and placed it over her shoulder as they made their way out of her dorm room. She locked the door behind her and then put the key away, “My roomie is actually going to be at this party, so we’ll know one person.”

Percy was probably more likely to get cold feet than Annabeth was; after all, the only reason he was going was because she was. If she decided not to go then he would surely chicken out. “What do you think it’s going to be like? Animal House or American Pie?” He’d met Annabeth’s roommate not too long after they’d moved into the dorms, so it’d be nice to know at least one other person there. “Is this her first college party too?” Percy actually knew a lot of kids during his senior year who snuck into college parties. He just hadn’t been one of them.

“Nah, she has gone to a few earlier this semester. She likes to go out and have a good time on the weekends apparently. I think she’ll probably end up joining a sorority or something. And as for the party…..probably more American Pie. I think we’re too modern now for Animal House to happen again. This town is a little classy,” she couldn’t help but chuckle about the idea of crazy people in togas. Greek life was still an enigma to her and she had no idea what frats and sororities actually did when it came to parties, but some day she’ll find out. As they talked they made their way down the stairs and exited the building, “Do you know where we’re going?”

“Yeah, my roommate goes out a lot on the weekends too, but that’s mostly to get high cause he comes back smelling even worse than before. I’m surprised I haven’t gotten a contact high off of him,” Percy said as they exited the building then nodded in response to her question as he pulled out his phone and brought up the maps, “Yeah, I put the address in my phone, so the map should tell us where to go.” As if on cue, the voice on the app told them to walk down the street. “Just don’t laugh at me if I can’t handle beer. I’ve never actually drank before.” But Annabeth would know that, because they basically knew everything about each other already.

“So gross and that stuff smells disgusting. Is he even going to classes? I hear about a lot of people that go to school and then never go to class and play video games all the time. They end up failing out. So, don’t be that guy, Percy,” she commented with a playful smile. It was serious business, but Percy seemed like the type that wouldn’t do something like that. She was around to help make sure he went to class if she had to. And then he mentioned beer and she couldn’t help but chuckle, “That’s okay. I’ve only been to like two parties in high school and I didn’t really drink much at all. Beer is kind of gross, but it’s usually the most plentiful. We just need to make sure that we keep our cups and only fill our own drinks. We so don’t need to get drugged or something equally crazy and dangerous.”

“Yeah, surprisingly, he is. I don’t know how he does it,” Percy said as they turned a corner, “And you don’t have to worry about me doing that stuff. It’s awful.” Drugs had never appealed to Percy in any way. He was already on meds for his ADD, he didn’t need to mix other drugs in with that. “You think some older college girl will try to spike my drink and take advantage of me?” He smirked, cheeks flushing slightly as he said it, glad that it was dark so Annabeth couldn’t see.

“You never know,” she said in her mysterious deep voice with a playful lilt to it. She couldn’t help but chuckle a little at how silly her voice had sounded, “Okay, I sounded like a big dork then. But you never know what could happen at these things. I’ve seen too many scary PSAs in my lifetime I think.” She just hoped it was mostly a scare tactic and nothing like that would actually happen to them at this part. She fiddled with her hair as they followed the directions and soon enough they were just a few houses down from the party.

Percy laughed at her attempt at a scary voice and bumped her shoulder playfully with his own as they walked, “Lets hope that we don’t become an after school special at our first college party.” As they finally reached the street where the house was, Percy closed the GPS on his phone and put the phone back in his pocket, because it was obvious which house the party was at, “Huh, where do you think it is?” He glanced at her, smirking as they got closer to the house.

“I have noooooo idea. I think it might be in the empty house with no lights across the street,” she answered him with a laugh as they made their way to the party. It was definitely a busy place and she was surprised they were getting away with this much noise, but maybe the neighbors were fellow college students. They walked up the stairs and stepped into the party - once inside she turned to look at him as they pushed into the crowd, “Um, should we go find drinks?”

Percy had expected the loud music, but walking into the house was like walking into a wall of sound and he had to resist covering his ears, “Yeah, we might as well.” His voice was a louder now so that Annabeth could hear him over the music as they made their way towards the kitchen, where Percy assumed the drinks and things must be. There were still just as many kids crowding the kitchen and Percy actually saw a few kids crowded around a keg, one kid doing a keg stand. “I didn’t realize people actually did that.”

“Holy crap,” she murmured as her eyes went wide taking the sight in. Well, apparently that was a real thing. This party was definitely in full swing and Annabeth couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head, “That is ridiculous. I can’t believe people do it either.” She stepped around them to another keg and grabbed some cups. She filled one up and handed it to Percy before filling her own, “Okay, let’s go find a place that isn’t swarmed.”

“How much do you wanna bet that the only reason any of those guys are here is cause they’re on some sports scholarship?” Percy said as he followed Annabeth to the other keg and took the cup from her, which he brought up to his nose to sniff. “Good luck with that.” He smirked then headed towards the entrance to the kitchen, “Where should we even look?”

“Um, want to go out to the back?” She wasn’t sure what places would be the best. She was sure that upstairs would be full of gross couples and the living room was out. The back yard probably wouldn’t be too bad, “And I am sure that is the exact reason they’re here. But whatever, at least we’ll have jobs in the future.” She took a sip from her cup as they made their way through the crowd to find the door outside.

“The back sounds good.” And chances were, the backyard would be a little quieter than inside the house; unless they had speakers set up out there too. Going out the back, Percy noted that there were lots of people out there, but not as many as inside. Another thing Percy noted was a smell he’d gotten accustomed to over the last few weeks, “Someone is having fun out here.” He wrinkled his nose slightly then took a sip of his beer, wrinkling it again, “I’ve heard a lot of people compare beer to urine and I’ve always wondered how they would know what urine tastes like.” Good topic, Jackson. Real good.

That earned a snort of laughter from her because it was one of the more random things that Percy had said to her. She also smelled the drug in the air and grimaced a little as they found a place to sit over by the fire that someone had gotten going, “I think a lot of people are having fun out there. At least there don’t seem to be any crazy fights going on like you see in the movies sometimes. And as for the urine, I’m sure they don’t know what it tastes like unless they’ve been blackout drunk or they tried to be like Bear Grylls.”

“Have you seen that movie Project X? I’m just glad this party isn’t like the one in that movie. Something like that could only happen in a movie.” Percy hadn’t sat around a bon fire in awhile, not since the last time he’d gone to montauk with his mother since the house they usually rent has a fire pit. Sitting there with Annabeth was nice though and he took another sip of his beer. It was definitely something that would take a little getting used to. “That guy is kind of crazy.”

“Oh god, that’s right. I forgot about that movie completely. It was the most insane party I had ever watched. I just cringed while watching that movie. I don’t think I would ever want to be involved in something like that,” she mused aloud. Things got a little too out of hand and Annabeth was the kind to leave so she wouldn’t be involved in any kind of messes. But this party was more mellow than that and she was enjoying just spending time with Percy out by the fire. It felt like they were in a more intimate setting than a party, “He is. I don’t know why people think he’s so cool.”

“Well, if we hear any sirens or see and helicopters over the house then we could always hop that fence over there and go through the other yards.” He smirked, glad that things weren’t awkward with Annabeth after the whole possible mind reading episode. Of course they’d seen each other since then, but this was a little different than those other times. “I bet they wouldn’t think it was so cool if they were out there with him.”

“Good thing I can climb really well. I would totally be able to hop that fence and run like my butt is on fire. I would definitely help you out because I know you won’t slow me down,” she mused aloud with a playful smile before chuckling, “No, they would probably absolutely hate being out there with him. I know I wouldn’t want to be there. I don’t want to drink my own urine or kill bears.”

Percy laughed and took a sip of his beer, “I wouldn’t need help climbing the fence.” Of course he knew that Annabeth was just teasing him and he made a face at her, “I bet half those guys would kind up getting killed by bears though. Or something stupid. They’d get attacked by a bird or a swarm of ladybugs.” Percy was trying to think of something stupid that could kill someone on that show, but was obviously failing.

The idea of the macho guys at the party being attacked by a swarm of ladybugs made Annabeth snort in laughter, “Ladybugs? Really, Percy? I’ll give you dorky creative points for that one because I do think they would scream like girls. But we should really move onto something else to talk about. Like, halloween is coming up! Do we want to do costumes or something?”

“I’ll admit, it’s not my best.” Percy smirked, feeling a little less self conscience and nervous now that they were talking like normal. He still wanted to tell Annabeth how he felt about her, but he didn’t want to mess things up right now. It was going so well. “I have no idea.” He took another sip of his beer, which drained his cup. He’d drank that a lot quicker than he’d expected and considering how skinny he was, he was starting to feel it already. “Did you have something in mind?”

“I’m not sure yet. Probably something simple. Those Halloween stores are bound to pop up and we could go check them out. I’m not a fan of the slutty costumes though,” she mentioned as she finished up her first cup of beer. When she looked over she noticed his was almost gone and she stood up, extending her hand to his, “Let’s discuss while we go grab some more drinks.”

Once he was on their feet they made their way back to the kegs and filled up again. The night seemed to move along quickly because she was down a few more cups of beer and feeling very tipsy. She and Percy were on a couch with a few other people and she was laughing at something she said and leaning in a little closer than she needed to.

Percy had never thought he’d be much of a beer drinker, but after that first cup the next few had gone down pretty quickly and he was probably just as tipsy as Annabeth as he laughed along with what she said and probably wouldn’t remember in the morning. As she leaned close, he got a whip of her shampoo and he sighed a bit, “Annabeth, I really like you.” It took Percy a moment or two after he’d said it to realize that he’d said it outloud and not just thought it.

Well, that definitely took her by surprise even though she had already known the fact due to her mind reading powers. Her cheeks turned pink and she parted her lips to respond to it, but then a guy leaned forward and completely emptied his stomach right beside them on the floor. She let out a shriek as she moved to get her feet out of the way. Well, that ruined the moment and it was pressed into the back of her mind as she tried to get a hold of Percy so they could move and possibly leave the party.
