Her first indiscretion was in 1859, ten years after she’d arrived in the past. She hadn’t meant for anything to happen, but she was hungry and horny, and the girl had been willing and very convincing. She’d nearly drank her dry in the heat of the moment before she stopped herself, and spent a week making sure she’d be okay, before fleeing the city.
She fed on animals for awhile after that, and avoided other people as best she could. Then war broke out. She could only come out at night, but hey, she had to do her part to keep the Union together, right? So if some confederate officers were a little woozy in the morning, that totally wasn’t her fault.
There was a peculiar thing about the past. Jubilee became more subdued and quiet. Maybe she matured, maybe it was a survival mechanism, but she couldn’t afford to be herself any more. At least until she came to Paris in the 70s.
The Eiffel Tower didn’t exist. She was a little disappointed, but the Paris nightlife was still fantastic. She let herself go, acting like a Queen in the night. She knew now how much she could feed without killing someone, and she let herself get lost in a parade of lovers. But she never let herself get attached.
The person she was attached to, well, she wouldn’t be born for over a hundred years.
By the 90s, Jubilee had to move on. She wasn’t aging, and so she headed overland to China. It was funny, in her waking world she’d never been to her parent’s homeland, and now, here she was. She explored it, finding it easier to travel than she would have otherwise thought, and thought she could probably spend fifty years here if she wanted. But by the time the Wright Brothers had learned to fly, she was ready to move on.
England. Kate Pryde had always talked up England. Her friend’s face was like a faded memory. Indeed, all her friend’s faces had faded. Like a fuzzy photograph. Jubilee didn’t like it. She didn’t like what time did to memory. But some memories were sharp, and in the day when she slept, the warm body she dreamed of was as clear as yesterday.
Jubilee’s nature had swung again towards wild when she boarded the Titanic. Maybe it was her duty to experience this, to learn about it, or maybe she really just wanted to see if the band had actually kept playing like people said.
The ship was more beautiful than she’d ever imagined. There were parties and dinners and so many people to mingle with, but she found herself enjoying the below decks more. The people there felt more real.
When the iceberg came, she was ready. She couldn’t save the ship, but maybe she could sneak a few extra kids into a life raft, or make sure a door wasn’t locked so people could get on deck. Like in the war, they were small things, small changes. As far as Jubilee was concerned, she was here, and because she was here that meant these things had already happened.
