WHO: Anya Corazon & Nate Summers
WHAT: Reunion, relationship talk, exploring their feelings
WHEN: following this
WHERE: Cora's room @ home, & on board Greymalkin
WARNINGS: PG13
After she’d reunited with her parents, and told a little bit of her story, Cora had changed clothes, and they’d brought her home. Her mom had thought of everything, and she was soon swaddled in comfy yoga pants and a favorite t-shirt, with the sweater Billy had grabbed for her over everything else. She felt nervous about seeing Nate, and everything they had to talk about, but she knew she wasn’t going to get any less nervous until it was done.
So once she was home, and fed, and curled up in her old bedroom, she found a quiet place, and reached out to him with her mind. She was supposed to be resting, but she’d just woken up before Nate had brought them all home, so she wasn’t going to be sleeping any time soon. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
Nate was there, instantly, his presence warm and loving as he felt her touch. Do you want to talk like this, or for me to have Professor bring you to new Graymalkin? He wasn’t sure how tired she was, and he felt eagerness to see her again.
New Graymalkin now sat off California’s coast, cloaked, much smaller than it had been, and now covered with arable land that had been inside, waiting to be used. Nate was thinking of planting it with food crops entirely since the soil was super-rich. Though the bodyslide tech was much less powerful, it still could cover all of Irvine and Orange County still. Nate planned on living there full time from here on out. It made more sense than trying to get an apartment and he didn’t belong at his parent’s home anymore. He knew that.
In person is better. Nervous though she might be, she didn’t even hesitate to answer that. She knew if the talk wore her out, Nate would make room for her to sleep on the station--and on the off chance that things got too awkward between them, she could always come back home. I need to see you.
Good. relief and love shone brightly, and he pulsed with them as Professor beamed her to the island. A moment later, she was laying in a new bed, this one her own in the quarters he had prepared for her. And he was there, was staring down at her. His eyes drank her in, beautiful Cora turned more beautiful and different, even as his mind touched hers, warm, loving, wrapping around her like a hug.
Cora looked up at him, her dark hair gathered over one shoulder as she lay on her side. Her eyes were darker now, too, but as thoughtful and inquisitive as ever. She pushed herself up on one elbow, and leaned toward Nate, reaching for him with her free arm. His psychic touch helped to reassure her, but she wanted to hold his hand, and pull him into her arms.
She blushed as she remembered what she had been thinking about when he’d found her, and deliberately refused to lower her eyes. “I don’t know where to start.”
He settled to the bed and slid his hand to hers, and squeezed it, lifting it to his lips to kiss it, and letting her draw him down to her. He hugged her close and smiled at her.
“Start wherever you like. Whenever you like.’ He nodded. “I love you. Nothing will change that.”
Cora snuggled up to him, resting her head against his chest. It felt right, even after all these years. Maybe because, for Nate, it had only been a matter of hours. She hugged him, and gave a soft sigh. “I love you, too,” she said, “But Billy and I spent five years together--three in ancient Egypt, and two more in Europe--and we became close. We let people think we were husband and wife, and somewhere along the way, it started to feel like maybe we really were.”
She took a deep breath, all the emotions of the past five years, and the recent leap back to the future washing over her again. She didn’t try to hide her feelings from Nate. “We never…” She gulped. “We weren’t sexually active, but he shared the Marvel powers with me, and I created a telepathic bond with him the day we left Egypt--the day we tried to rescue a space-dragon. And he’s my best friend in the world, besides you.” Another deep breath. “But what you felt this morning, that was me, in the shower, all by myself. I didn’t mean for anybody else to see, or feel it, but my feelings for Billy got all mixed up with my feelings for you, and then...there you were.”
And there came the waterworks.
He listened and he held her and when she cried, he kissed her hair and rubbed her back, and smiled softly. "I love you. And that won't change. I still want to spend the rest of my life with you." He kissed her temple and smiled softly. "What happened in the past makes sense. You had no idea if you would ever come home, and Billy is a good man."
“I knew you wouldn’t stop looking for me,” she said, drawing a tremulous breath. The tears were gentle, as much from relief as anything else, but the emotions were strong. “I never stopped loving you, either, and I love Billy, but he still loves Barbara, too. And I wasn’t ready for the physical stuff, so we waited. We took it slow. But I’ve been growing into myself all the while, and when I woke up this morning and realized that the dreams had made me change again, I thought…I don’t know. I thought maybe it was because I’d finally accepted myself, and my body. And maybe I could learn to enjoy it, too.”
She leaned back a little, laying a hand over Nate’s heart as she looked up at him. “I thought I was finally ready, but I don’t know what any of it means for us now. Just that I still love you, and I’ve missed you so much.”
"You lived with him for years and it's only natural that you would get comfortable with him with your body and in that situation I could easily see you eventually having sex." He closed his eyes, not wanting to think about that, but knowing he had to.
"I wouldn't have blamed you if that had happened. I love you, considering the situation with him, it would have been only real to do that."
"As far as what this means for us, I think it means what ever we want it to mean."
Cora nodded, trying to take it all in, and not to make herself feel guilty. Nate was here, he understood; he wasn’t running, or pushing her away. Billy would see Barbara eventually, and they’d sort it out. All of it. “You’ll help me get used to life in the 21st Century again?”
“Of course.” He smiled softly. Small steps, hmmm. “We could go for a walk near the mini-mall tomorrow and the park? That would let you be around modern people without having to interact right away? Then we can step it up, to a restaurant, and a movie, and maybe something silly like minigolf.”
He blushed and grinned. “I love you and I want to help you all I can.”
"And maybe we can finally go on a real date," Cora blurted out, impulsiveness getting the better of her. She really wanted to kiss him. Was that wrong? What would Billy think? How would he feel? "After we get things sorted out."
Nate grinned wider, and poked her softly as the closeness rolled over him. “I’d like that. Maybe several of them. When you are ready.” He leaned in, his face close with hers, the warmth filling him. “I love you and nothing will change that.” He grinned wider. eyes dancing. “And you have beautiful eyes.” And then he kissed her, a slow, hesitant at first thing, that grew in passion and warmth, and intensity, until he pulled back slowly, panting lightly, and flushed. “I also like kissing you.”
Cora’s eyes closed as she leaned into the kiss, her lips parting eagerly. She felt the heat of it suffusing through her whole body, felt herself respond in ways that might have frightened her before, but now they just felt...right. “I like it, too.”
She still didn’t have all the answers, or know how things were going to turn out, but she knew she didn’t want to lose this. Not ever.
“Good. We should do more of it… when you feel like it.” He grinned at her. “We can take all the time we need, from here on.” He kissed her nose, a silly little thing, and her ear. And he stroked a hand through her hair, even as he marveled at the fact that her mind was just as beautiful as ever.
Cora nodded gently, dark lashes fluttering as she nuzzled Nate’s cheek. She liked being able to do this with him now, without having to hold back. Not that she was in a hurry to rush into things, but having the freedom to explore, that was a nice feeling. “I guess that means we’ll be seeing more of each other,” she said, a playful smirk lifting the corners of her mouth. “Although I probably look a little different than the last time you saw more of me.”
His mind touched hers, loving, warm, embracing, and he just smiled, inside and out. “I sincerely hope so.” He grinned at her. Then his eyes danced. “I’d love to see more, when you are ready.” For a moment he let his eyes rake down her and the desire was palpable. “I thought you were beautiful before, and you still are, even if different.”
She smiled, pressing up against him. She could still remember how Nate looked, and she really liked that memory. She kissed him again, savoring it slowly, letting her mind brush his along with the brush of their lips. “I feel beautiful.”
Nate hissed out a slow breath, and he pressed back; arms sliding around her to gently hug her tight against his body, which was now quite aroused. “You are amazingly beautiful.” He kissed her, slow and gentle, and again, and again, not increasing the intensity, but enjoying that slow touch of mind and body.
She was amazing and he loved her, and even if they never did anything other than this, this was good. He grinned to himself, eyes alight with the love and appreciation of her that he felt.
After a long moment, Cora leaned back, and smiled up at him; her hands resting on his shoulders. “Thank you so much,” she said; sure now that everything would be all right, whatever happened. “I can’t tell you how much it means to me, just knowing that you’ll be right here. That you were always right there, even when I couldn’t reach you on my own. And thank you for bringing us all safely home.”
“You’re welcome. I love you, and nothing will change that, Cora. I promise you. “ He smiled softly, and nodded to her. “How could I not? The world would be far less without you.”
I would be less without you. His mind shied away from thinking about it.
“You would have done the same for anyone,” she said, “That’s what makes you...a hero.” But that didn’t stop her from kissing him one more time. I’m not going anywhere without you.
“I’m not a hero. I’m a soldier.” But he kissed her back, anyway, and snuggled her close. I’m glad. I admit, I worried a little that your feelings might have changed not in my favor.
“Of course, you would say that. If you called yourself a hero, you’d just be a butthead,” Cora teased, resting in his arms. I can’t say I haven’t changed, inside and out. But I could never forget you. Seeing him again just made her realize that maybe she could actually appreciate Nathan Summers, the man, as well as her best friend Nate from the park.
Nate snorted and hugged her close, and stroked her back. She made him feel so many things. And he listened to her. Hearing her voice, holding her close, made him feel amazing. I’m glad.
He kissed her hair, inhaling her smell and smiled.
