Magius sat down heavily after he put down the phone and he sighed. He was still in the hospital, but now in a larger room on one of the top floors. He had been moved there just yesterday, with Luisa’s help, since he would need to be in the hospital a few more days. He was healing quickly, as befit someone in as good a shape as he was. but it was still too slow for his own comfort. And the cops had just called him, making for a rather irritable wake up from his mid-day pain and healing drug induced nap.
There had been a fire, they said, caused by the bad guys, who had been found. A shootout ensued and a fire, and several; of the books and antiques had been destroyed, while the rest had been recovered along with much of his furnishings that had been taken.
Magius had listened carefully, noting down the names of the books that had been gotten back, and the gaps were all too clear. Staring at them, he wondered if the dreams had decided he had gotten to play with them long enough.
Then he grinned.
“What a relief!”
It would be dangerous to not have them, and yet some of them had weighed on him all too much.
“What’s a relief love?” Luisa asked as she stepped into the room, having returned from the coffee shop near the hospital just in time to hear his exclamation. The hospital coffee was terrible and she figured they deserved a nice treat while he was healing.
Magius smiled to her and lifted a hand toward her. “Its an odd feeling., both good and bad, but mostly good. The thieves who stole my books apparently managed to catch them on fire and destroyed most of what they took. It so happens they took books containing very powerful spells, and… I find I am both sad and happy to not have them around any more.” He shook his head, bemused.
Luisa came forward and after placing the coffees on the bedside table took his hand in hers and sat on the bed close to him, “I’m sorry you’ve lost them but maybe you just weren’t meant to keep them” she said softly, stroking the back of his hand with her thumb.
Magius smiled and nodded. “You may be right. The Gods were merciful and allowed me to have them when they were needed, but mayhap this world is not yet ready.” He smiled at her. “I am not much bothered. Some of those spells were as scary as they were intriguing.”
She nodded, “It’s a good thing then” she said, “You are an incredible man, you know? Without the magic” she told him, love showing in her eyes as she looked at him.
Magius blushed and grinned at her and reached out to draw her close and kiss her, then relax. “I am made greater by the strength of those around me.” He nodded to her. “You make me better, as did my nurse assistant. She got into her college of choice, did I tell you?” He smiled warmly. He would miss her, but he knew she was pursuing her dream and that was good.
He turned his gaze back to Luisa. “When I feel stronger, I might have to pull you onto this bed and anoint it…” He winked at her.
She went willingly, smiling into the kiss. “She did?” Luisa smiled as he told her the news, “That’s wonderful. I’m so pleased for her”
Luisa laughed lightly, “I look forward to you feeling stronger then” she told him, stroking her fingers over his knuckles where their hands were still joined, “Something to aim for” she added with a grin.
Magius smirked at her, and kissed her warmly. “As do I.” He waggled his eyebrows and stroked her hair and her face. “As long as you’re around,. I’m happy.”
“You’ll be happy for a long time then because I’m going nowhere” she told him, carding her hand through his hair and kissing him gently.
“Good. You are the part of my life that makes me most happy, most content.” He grinned at her, stroking her face. “How are you feeling?”
He kissed her back intently, lovingly.
“I’m fine” she assured him, “Your doctors say you’re improving well so I worry a little less now” she admitted, “Being able to stay with you helps” Luisa had never known fear like she had felt when she’d received the phone call to say that he was in hospital.
“Good. I just want to be out of here as soon as possible.” He held her hands gently. “I’m sorry if I scared you, love.” He blushed softly. “I didn’t mean to. I just had bad timing.”
“You will be. You just need to heal, no rushing it” she told him before raising his hands to her lips to place a soft kiss on his knuckles, “It’s not your fault. I’m just glad you’re okay. I’m not sure what I’d do without you now” she admitted.
“I know.:” He hummed in contentment as she kissed his knuckles. “I’ll be fine, and you would be fine too. You are an amazing person and you can handle anything.”
Luisa wasn't so sure, she loved him more than she ever had anybody else. She didn't want to think about life without him, "Lets hope I don't have to" she simply said.
Magius nodded. He felt like he had found the love of his life. He had been lucky enough to love once before, and it had ended in tragedy. But he was glad to have found love again, and Luisa was someone he wanted to make a long life with. "I love you."
Luisa had never experienced the kind of love she felt for Magius and while she hadn’t been looking for it she was glad she had found it and him. “I love you too” she told him the truth of her words shining from her eyes.
“You truly are amazing.” He kissed her then, and sagged back, happy, if weak, and knowing that life could only get better from here.
