What: A date before Stiles’ match
Rating/Warning: Low/None

To say that Jeremy was nervous was an understatement. Sure, he and Myrcella had hung out a lot over the last few months, but this was completely different. This was an actual date and depending on how it went, it could change their friendship. He had been putting off asking her out for awhile, despite really wanting to, partly because he didn’t want to make things awkward if it went bad and partly because of everything that had been going on with him and his family. He hated putting all his crap on her, but she seemed more than willing to listen and try to help and he appreciated that more than he could ever tell her.
Myrcella had given him a different address to pick her up at now that she was no longer living at her uncle’s house and it had been fairly easy to find, but when he pulled up the long gravel driveway, he couldn’t help but stare at the large house for a few moments before getting out of the car. He wasn’t sure if he should ring the bell or text her to let him know he was there, but considering this was a date, he thought that ringing the bell was probably the better way to go. Taking a deep breath, he walked up to the door and pressed the button for the doorbell, which was under a small plaque that read Stark.
Half of her wardrobe was spread across her bed and around the room and she had taken longer perfecting her make-up than she ever had before but Myrcella was finally pleased with how she looked. She had decided upon a black dress with a large flower patterns on it and paired it with black and gold sandals. She had left her hair down and only wore a small necklace which her Uncle Jaime had brought her one year. She had butterflies in her tummy but was also very excited. She had been waiting for Jeremy to ask her out properly but then with the terrible sadness of his parents passing it just hadn’t been right.
But he had asked her and she had happily said yes. When she heard the knock on the door she ran down to answer it, luckily making it before anybody else made an appearance. Opening it she smiled brightly yet somewhat shyly, “Hi Jeremy, how are you?”
Jeremy hadn’t been expected Myrcella to be quite so dressed up and couldn’t help but gawk for a moment or two, “I….uh….good.” Real smooth, Gilbert. Taking a deep breath, Jeremy tried to start that over, “I mean, I’m good. How’re you? You look really nice.” He hoped that the bleachers at the match weren’t dirty, because he didn’t know if they’d have time to come back so Myrcella could change between dinner and the match. He wouldn’t want her to ruin her dress.
Myrcella blushed as Jeremy’s gaze ran over her before telling her she looked nice, “I’m good. Thank you” she smiled, “It’s not too much is it?” she checked, “I have my jacket to sit on at the match if I need to” Because while Myrcella may be a girl she was a practical one. She wanted to look nice for their meal however she was also fully aware her dress may get dirty but that was what dry cleaning services were for.
Jeremy shook his head, “No. I don’t think so.” And if she needed it, Jeremy would lend her his jacket if she happened to get cold. “Are you ready to go?” He was extremely nervous about this date, but the one thing that made it a little easier was the fact that Myrcella’s mother couldn’t grill him on what they were doing. Of course he didn’t know the people she was staying with, so it could still happen from one of them, but so far no one had come to see what was going on.
Myrcella smiled, relieved that he thought the dress was okay, it was new and she’d picked it hoping to wear it on their first proper date. “I’m ready” she nodded, grabbing her bag and coat from the rack and closing the door behind her. She had told the Stark’s where she was going but it seemed she was lucky that neither of them had heard the door. If they were even at home, Myrcella wasn’t actually sure.
When Myrcella smiled, Jeremy smiled and once she was on the other side of the door, he led the way to his car and opened the passenger side door once they reached it. “So, what are you in the mood for?” Jeremy hadn’t wanted to decide where they were going to go before talking to Myrcella cause he didn’t actually know what kind of food she liked.
“Oh, I don’t really mind” she replied as she put her belt on, “I’m not a picky eater, do you fancy anything in particular?” she asked him as he started the car.
Jeremy didn’t want to bring her for something like a hamburger, but at the same time, he couldn’t do anything super expensive, “Do you like Mexican?” He knew of a pretty good Mexican restaurant that wasn’t too far from where Stiles’ match was, so it wouldn’t take too long to get there afterwards. As he waited for Myrcella to respond, he started up the long driveway to the street.
Myrcella didn’t mind where they went for dinner, she was just happy he’d asked her out. “I do” she nodded with a smile, “I’ve had it a couple of times back at home and it’s always been nice”
“I wonder if Mexican food here is any different than Mexican food in England.” Jeremy mused out loud as he drove, “You’ll have to let me know.” He glanced over at her as they hit a red light, “So, what’s one thing you have at home that you don’t have here?” They had talked about a lot of things over the last few months, but they never really talked about what Myrcella couldn’t get in California, because he’d never wanted to make her homesick.
“I promise I’ll let you know” she agreed laughing softly, “Oh wow, umm well this is going to sound really weird but I miss Marmite, it’s like a spread that you have on toast and proper earl grey tea. And chocolate, it’s just not the same here” she smiled, “But one thing I don’t miss is the weather, it’s definitely much better here. I can’t believe it’s October and I haven’t had to get my rain coat out”
“You should have your mom or something back home send you some so I can try it.” Jeremy smirked as the light changed back to green. He was also curious exactly how chocolate was different in England as opposed to America. He chuckled in response to her comment about the weather and he nodded, “Yeah, it’s pretty nice. I mean, this is all I’ve really known to be honest.” The first time Jeremy had seen snow in the winter had been the past december when it had randomly snowed. “It snows out there, right?”
“Oh that’s a great idea. I will, marmite, tea and chocolate. It’ll be a great parcel to wait for” she smiled, wondering if Jeremy would like it. She was also looking forward to seeing if he could tell the difference between the chocolates. As far as she was aware the UK used more milk so it was a creamier taste, she’d found American chocolate to be sadly lacking. “Oh yeah, we get snow. Generally just after Christmas, January and February is the best time for it. Although people put bets on about it snowing on Christmas Day”
“Last year it snowed here.” Jeremy said as they pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. He still didn’t understand how that had happened, but had been nice, “It was a freak thing.” Parking the car, he got out, wondering briefly if he should go open her door and in the end, he moved around to her side trying not to make it obvious that he was trying to get there before she opened her door.
“Really? I can’t imagine it snowing here, it just feels far too warm” she told him, “But I guess freak things happen here quite a lot so it shouldn’t be a surprise” she smiled. When they stopped she noticed that he was coming round to her door so she waited to let him open her door, thanking him as she stepped out.
Jeremy had never actually opened doors or done any of that stuff for a girl before so he hoped that he didn’t look foolish. Either way, he opened Myrcella’s door for her and waited for her to get out, “Yeah, it was really weird. Kinda cool, but obviously no one here was prepared for it. Just imagine people here trying to drive in snow. You can guess how many accidents there were.” Once she was out of the car, he closed and locked the door then led the way into the restaurant.
Myrcella thought it was sweet not foolish that he opened her door for her and she smiled at him to show that. “Driving in the snow is awful” she said, “I think even people back home struggle with it so I imagine it was a hundred times worse here” As they walked up the path to the restaurant she slipped her hand into his, a light blush spreading across her face.
As her hand slipped into his, Jeremy bit his bottom lip, hoping that his hand wasn’t sweaty. Reaching the hostess, Jeremy requested a table for two and since it was still early, they were seated right away and given menus. “I’m glad we didn’t have to wait long. I don’t want to get to Stiles’ match late.” He was really curious about how lacrosse games were played.
“Have you ever been to a lacrosse match before?” Myrcella asked him before looking over her menu, she was quite excited to be going. She wasn’t keen on playing sports but she didn’t mind watching and it was always more interesting if you knew somebody who was on one of the teams.
Jeremy shook his head as he looked over his own menu, “No. I’ve been to football and baseball games, but never lacrosse. I didn’t even know any schools around here played lacrosse. Mine doesn’t do it.” He wondered why some schools had one sports and others didn’t.
“I’ve been to a football and rugby match back home” Myrcella said, “But the schools I used to go to didn’t really do matches like they do here. Though I probably wouldn’t have gone anyway, none of my friends used to play much sport. But I’m looking forward to seeing it”
“Football as in soccer?” Jeremy asked as their waitress approached and asked if she could get them drinks. Jeremy ordered a diet coke then waited for Myrcella to order her own drink before he spoke again, “Do you miss your friends back home?” He didn’t know what he’d so if he ever had to move to an entirely different country.
“Yes football as in soccer” she nodded with a smile, also ordering a diet coke from the waitress. “Sometimes” she admitted, “Mostly when I want to go shopping or something. It wasn’t so bad when mum was here because she’d always come with me but Arya isn’t really into ‘girly’ things” she smiled with a slight blush, “But we email a lot and it’s nice to hear how they’re getting on and what’s happening”
“So, who’re you going to go shopping with now?” Part of Jeremy hoped she wasn’t going to ask him, but even if she did then he’d probably say yes if it meant getting to spend more time with her.
“You volunteering?” she teased him with a giggle, “I’m probably just gonna go with Catelyn, Arya’s mum or there’s a couple of girls at school who might like to go, when I’ve gotten to know them better” Myrcella wouldn’t dream of asking Jeremy to go with her, she knew he’d be terribly bored.
Jeremy chuckled and shrugged, “I’d probably be good at carrying bags.” Most of the time when Jeremy went to the mall it was to the arcade or if there was something specific he needed. He hadn’t had to wander after someone at the mall since he was younger and would go with his mother and sisters.
Myrcella laughed but nodded, "I'm sure you would be" she smiled, "But I know it's cruel and unusual torture to make guys go shopping so I'll let you off" she smiled.
Jeremy smiled, “I appreciate it.” He was still smiling when the waitress came back to take their order. Jeremy had been so nervous about how this date was going to go, but so far it was going even better than he’d expected and he hoped that it kept going in the direction it had been.
