Lexi was enjoying getting to know Rebekah better. Of course they'd been friends for awhile now since Rebekah and Stefan had been dating for awhile, but hanging out with Stefan around and hanging out alone were two completely different things. When Stefan wasn't around they were able to talk about certain things that they didn't when Stefan was around. Such as stories about Stefan. Realistically Lexi would tell her stories about her best friend even if he was around, but it was more fun when he wasn't around cause he wasn't there to ask them to stop. Although watching him blush or get flustered was pretty fun too.
Today Stefan had a photoshoot and had taken Natalia with him, so Lexi and Rebekah were hanging out. They had decided to do some window shopping and get some coffee, which was why they were currently walking into a Starbucks.
“God I love Starbucks. It’s kind of an addiction sometimes. I have to hide the receipts from Stefan because he gets all frowny face when he sees I went like five times in a week. Oops!” she couldn’t help but grin about it. It was a vice that she had picked up since Natalia was born and she hoped they weren’t going to have a second child anytime soon so she wouldn’t have to quit it. She walked up towards the barista and grabbed her Starbucks Gold card and tapped it against her lips as she tried to figure out what she wanted to drink, “what are you going to get?”
“I think it’s a lot of people’s addiction,” Lexi laughed as she mimicked Stefan’s frowny face, which she knew well, “Poor Stefan, he’s going to get his face stuck like that someday.” Lexi also loved her some Starbucks and stopped in whenever she passed one, “Your Starbucks addiction sounds like my clothes and shoes addiction though. But Huck doesn’t make a frowny face. He just shakes his head at me trying not to look amused.” She pulled her wallet out as she gazed up at the many options, “Double Chocolaty Chip Frap.” She loved coffee, but sometimes a plain ole frap did the trick.
“Nice impression, it’s pretty spot on. He is always making that face at me. He can be a little pouty shit sometimes,” she meant it with the utmost love in her heart, but god that face. She couldn’t help but laugh every single time she saw it on his face. It wouldn’t surprise her if his face did freeze that way, “Oh I’ve gotten good about my clothes and shoes lately. It helps when you’d rather buy clothes for your child than yourself.” She nodded at her choice of drink and then finally picked one, “Can I get a grande iced caramel macchiato, please?” Once she ordered she stepped off to the side to let Lexi order next.
Lexi grinned and did a mock bow. “I’ve been friends with Stefan long enough that I might be able to mimic all his faces. Well, there might be one I can’t.” Lexi’s smirk was a tad bit mischievous. “Like I said before, when I do buy new stuff I try to find stuff I can get rid of. That way my side of the closet doesn’t bleed over into Huck’s.” When Rebekah moved aside, Lexi stepped up and ordered her own drink then they moved aside to the pick-up.
“Good idea. I really should go through my closet and do some fall cleaning or something. I also need to clean out some of Natalia’s stuff and put it in storage now that she’s growing. I would get rid of it, but I’m not quite sure just yet. Most of it is still good and if I ever have another girl in the future it could be useful?” She had grand ideas about cleaning, but she never actually followed through with them. She heard her named called and stepped forward to grab her drink.
“I’m real good with getting rid of stuff and organizing if you want any help,” When Lexi was younger she had, had the hardest time parting with things, but as she’d gotten older and then had to get rid of things before her and Huck moved in together, she’d gotten better at organizing and trimming down her things; especially her wardrobe. “And that makes sense about Nat’s things.” Lexi had never really thought about having kids before Natalia was born and even then she hadn’t given it too much thought, but now that she’d started having dreams where she was a vampire, which meant there was a possibility that she might turn into one and that had, had her thinking about it more, but she had yet to mention it to Huck. The barista handed them both their drinks then and Lexi gestured towards a table so they could sit down.
While the two girls were talking, Tom Sawyer was sitting at a nearby table, tablet on the table and phone up to his ear. He was going over some details for pre-production for his next project, which was the movie adaptation of Huck Finn’s first book. He still needed to talk to a lawyer about contracts and all that legal stuff, but there were a few things he could get the ball rolling on now. When the phone conversation was over, he ended the call and was just setting his phone down on the table when he spotted the two blonds moving towards a table. Tom wasn’t particularly picky when it came to women, but he did have a soft spot for pretty blonds and here were two of them. He didn’t do anything just yet, wanting to see where they chose to sit first.
“Perfect, I’ll have to let you know when I get around to it because I would love the help,” she commented with a smile as they made their way to the table that Lexi had gestured. She set her purse down on one of the empty chairs at the table and leaned back as she took a long sip of her drink, “So, how’s Huck? I feel like we need to do a nice dinner sometime the four of us and maybe Nat if you wanted. I think our boys need to spend more time together because we probably hang out more than they ever do.”
“Yeah, let me know and if I’m not working, I’ll come on over and share my expertise,” Lexi smirked as she took a sip from her drink after sitting down across from Rebekah, her own purse beside the other blond’s. “Of course. Nat is invited to any and all dinners. And Huck is good. He’s working on his next book, the third in the series.” Unlike when he had been writing the second installment, at least this time, it was much easier for Lexi to get in touch with Huck while he was writing, considering they were now in the same house and all she had to do was go to his study. “And I agree, our boys should hang out more.”
Tom couldn’t hear the girls’ conversation, otherwise he would have heard them mention the name Huck and he might have figured out who they were talking about. But Tom was far too focused on watching the girls then trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. After another moment or two of watching them, Tom pushed his chair away from the table and got up, adjusted his tie then made his way towards their table, “I’m sorry to interrupt, but has anyone ever told you ladies that you could be models?” It wasn’t just a line; it was true. The both of them were extremely good looking.
Rebekah had opened her mouth slightly to reply when she realized that an attractive man had approached their table. Then he opened up his mouth and said that horrible line and she couldn’t help but start to chuckle a little. It had been a while since she had been so blatantly chatted up and the line was so cliche that it made her laugh. So, she shook her head and held up her left hand with her engagement ring, “That’s really lovely of you to say, but I leave the modeling to my fianceé actually.” She took a sip of her drink with her eyebrows raised as she looked over to Lexi to see how she would react.
Lexi got hit on by guys all the time at work; most of them were just teasing, but every now and then she got the ones who were serious, so this wasn’t really anything new for her. Quirking a brow, she looked up at the guy, “You really think so?” She rested her elbow on the table and placed her chin in her hand as she looked up at him, her tone almost making it seem like she was flirting back, “So tell me...how many other girls have you given that line to today? Cause if you were hoping to be the filling in a blond sandwich tonight, that is not the line to use.” Well, it had seemed like she was flirting back until that.
Somehow Tom hadn’t expected the shutdown quite so quickly. Both of these girls were obviously extremely feisty and it was a shame they obviously weren’t interested. It was time to save face, “Now what sort of gentleman would I be if that were my intention? I was simply sitting over there, doing some work when I spotted you lovely ladies and felt the urge to pay you both a compliment. Men don’t do that quite enough these days.” He flashed them both a bright smile.
“Suuuuuure,” she drawled the word with a smile spreading as she said it. He was definitely trying to save face from his failed pick up. But she wasn’t going to complain that an attractive man came over to pay them a compliment. She would accept the compliment and hope that he would go away soon after it. Although maybe she would stare at him while he sat at his table because he really was attractive, “But thank you for the compliment. It is quite nice of you since you’re right and men don’t do it enough. Especially since they tend to use that opportunity to hit on women.”
Lexi laughed at Rebekah’s response then glanced back over at the guy, “And what sort of work were you doing?” The guy was wearing a suit and tie so he had to have some sort of well paying job and his hair cut didn’t look like something one would get at a Super Cuts. “Couldn’t have been too interesting if you felt the need to come tell us how pretty we are.”
These girls certainly weren’t like most of the girls he hit on and that was actually a little reassuring cause it meant that there were actually some smart girls out there, “I’m a movie producer. I’m just ironing out the final details for my next project.”
“Well, that’s definitely exciting. I can’t say that I’ve met a movie producer before in my life. I’m sure that works quite well for you when you try to pick up other women. Would you like to tell us about your next project or is it super secretive?” She honestly didn’t know much about how the whole movie industry worked, so she didn’t know what a producer actually did. But she was a little interested, so why not hear him out because then she could go tell Stefan about the interesting thing she heard while she was out with Lexi.
“Yeah, what can you tell us about your new project? Can’t bring it up then not tell us,” Lexi smirked then took a sip of her drink, not even thinking that this guy was the same one who was talking to Huck about turning his series into movies.
Tom smirked and glanced over at his table to make sure no one had disturbed his things, but he liked to think that the two blonds would alert him if anyone tried stealing his stuff. “Well, as long as everything goes as planned, my next project will be the film adaptation of The Patchwork Monk.” Tom really was horrible at keeping things a secret.
“Oh my god….” she commented softly before looking over at Lexi with wide eyes and an expression of surprise, “That is my friend here’s favorite book on the face of the planet. She thinks the author is super duper hot. She loves to write him fan mail.” She couldn’t help but begin to tease Lexi about it and wondered if she would bring up the fact that she was dating the author to this man. And if she would mention to Huck that this guy hit on her.
Lexi had just taken another sip of her drink when the man mentioned the name of Huck’s book and she almost choked on it, “Oh yeah. I love that book.” She smirked across at Rebekah then glanced back up at the man, “I bet a movie would be awesome.” Telling him that she was Huck’s girlfriend would be too easy; besides it’d be a lot more fun to see his face later on, because if the movie got greenlit then chances were, she’d see Tom again.
Tom’s smirk spread into a grin at the response he got from the two blondes, “Then you’re in luck, because it looks like we’re moving along and should be getting the green light soon.” Tom had no idea that one of the blonds was actually the girlfriend of Huck Finn, otherwise he wouldn’t have hit on her.
“Sounds amazing. Well, I wish you good luck with that and hopefully I’ll see it in the movie theater with my husband when it comes out,” she grinned playfully before taking another sip of her drink and then checked the time on her watch. It was getting a little late, but hopefully Stefan was doing well with Natalia, but maybe she should fake it so they could get away from this guy? “I know my friend here will be first in line. Maybe she’ll even try to be at your red carpet event. And I would love to stay and chat, but I think we have to get going. I just had a child and I really should go pump my breast milk before I start to leak.” Oh yeah, that was probably a good way to gross out a guy and they could get away.
And in that moment, Lexi was incredibly proud of Stefan for finding a girl like Rebekah. “Yeah, and you really don’t want to see that.” Lexi smirked as she reached for her bag and got to her feet. “But yeah, maybe I’ll sleep with someone to get me tickets to the premier.” Of course that someone would be Huck, but she winked at Tom for good measure.
Not a lot really phased Tom, but as far as he could recall, a woman had never openly talked about breast milk before around him and that threw him off a bit, “Oh. Right. Well, you should go do that.” This would go down as one of the strangest pick up attempts he’d had. “Just keep an eye out for news. It was nice to meet the both of you.” With that, Tom turned and went back to his table.
“Thanks for the lovely chat,” she smiled at him as she grabbed her purse and waited for Lexi to do the same. Yep, it had worked like a charm and she wouldn’t mind going somewhere else to finish up their drinks as long as they didn’t get hit on again, “Good luck with the movie.” She called the last part to him as she shouldered her bag and picked up her drink.
