Who: Justin Taylor and Darcy Lewis
What: Halloween Costume Ideas
When: Tuesday, October 22nd. Late Afternoon
Where: The Mall
Rating: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

Ah the mall. Darcy was busy picking out a halloween costume. She didn’t exactly know what she was going to go as, but that’s what looking through the costumes were for. She was in one shop, going through all of them and getting annoyed. Why was everything a sexy version of something else? Ugh. Annoying. “This blows.” She said to no one in particular.

Justin and Billy were planning on going to a horror movie marathon on Halloween and because it was a special event, they were allowed to dress up at the theater, so Justin had decided to go out and look for a costume. Last year he’d gone to a club as an angel in a costume that had consisted of white hot pants, white sneakers and angel wings, but he highly doubted that he would be allowed into the movie theater like that.

He was looking through a rack of costumes when he noticed the brunette who looked extremely annoyed, “Having a hard time finding a costume?” He asked, looking over the top of the rack at her.

Glancing up at the sound of a voice, she looked around to make sure that he was actually talking to her. She’d been known to respond to people who weren’t actually talking to her, because she wasn’t paying attention. “Oh. Yeah. I mean I guess if I wanted to dress up in a tiny outfit where everyone can see everything, then I have a ton of options. But man.. as much as I love my rack and showing it off.. I don’t know if I want to do all of that. And that’s like the only option for women. It’s gross.”

“I don’t understand why women’s costumes are all tits and ass.” Okay, so a lot of the costumes Justin saw on gay men at gay clubs around Halloween didn’t exactly cover up much more, but the difference was that men generally had a much wider selection of costumes they could choose from. “Did you have something in mind? You could try to make something from scratch.” It was the artist in Justin that was suggesting it. His mind was always looking for creative things to do.

“I don’t get it either,” Darcy agreed with a sigh. More power to them if they really wanted to wear something like that, but she didn’t actually want to. “Nothing really in mind. I like to be unique, but what’s unique anymore? Everything’s been done, right?” she sighed again and glanced down at the stuff. “Maybe I should make my own. Of course I have no idea how to.” This would be easier if she had an idea already.

“I mean, last year I wore booty shorts and that was about it, but I chose to do that.” Justin smirked and crossed his arms over his chest as he continued listening to the brunette, “I could help. I’m an artist, so I tend to be pretty creative.” Sure, they didn’t know each other, but Justin wanted to offer anyway.

“Yeah I mean you should make your own choices, don’t listen to other people etc etc.. but I just.. don’t want to show everything off. I want something that makes people stop and go ‘oh that’s really clever’ instead of just trying to grab my ass.” Because apparently that happened a lot. “Yeah? I don’t even know what to try and be though.”

Justin nodded, “What kind of stuff do you like?” That was usually a good place to start when thinking about a Halloween costume. “Is there anything you were thinking of before now?” Depending on what one was doing for Halloween, it was hard to find something that was going to be different than everyone else.

“I like everything. Television, movies.. everything. I eat it up.” Darcy was something of a pop culture junkie, she had to admit. “I was thinking of maybe going as a black and white woman from the 50s or something. You know paint myself gray or something.” she shrugged some.

Justin listened, his mind moving along as she spoke. When she mentioned the 50s idea, Justin’s brows rose slightly, “Like in Pleasantville? What about like Pop Art? Have you seen those comic style paintings? With the dots of color of bold lines?” It wasn’t the best way to describe it, but he was sure he could find an example on his phone if she didn’t know what he was talking about.

“Yeah like Pleasantville. I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers that movie.. Pop Art is cool. Yeah I love those.” Darcy nodded a little. “You think a costume like that would be cool?”

“That’s one of my favorite movies.” Justin grinned, making a mental note to watch that again in the near future. “Yeah, I think if the makeup is done right then it could be a really unique costume. It’s definitely not something everyone would be doing like a cat or devil.”

“Mine too. Even if it has Tobey Maguire in it.” She could stomach it, just because it was that good. “Huh. Maybe I’ll give it a try, if I can find something to base it off of.” Though she wasn’t exactly the best designer or painter in the world.

“I bet if you googled it, you could find references.” Justin said, pulling out his phone and bringing up a search engine then typed in Pop Art costumes and selected images. When a couple different pictures loaded, he turned the phone towards Darcy, “There’s a few.” He hesitated for only a moment before speaking again, not wanting her to mistake what he was about to say for him coming on to her or something, “I’m an artist actually. I’d be happy to help you. I’ve never really done makeup before, but this is kind of like painting.” He didn’t think that this would be too difficult.

Darcy was already pulling up her phone to look for some herself. She glanced over at his phone though and nodded. “I like those. Oh I like that one especially. Maybe I can do that,” she said as she pointed to one in particular. “Yeah? That would be fantastic.” She could tell her was gay a mile away. It was fine. All the guys she knew turned out to be gay. “I’d love for you to help though. I’m not sure I could get it right.”

Justin grinned, glad that he could have helped her figure something out when she had seemed so lost at first, “I’m Justin, by the way.” Now he just needed to find a costume, but he could do that with Billy another day, “If you have time, we can go check out Sephora or something. Get some actual makeup. It’ll probably look better than the crappy Halloween stuff.” That cheap stuff always looked a mess by the end of a party.

“Oh! I’m Darcy. Nice to meet you, Justin.” Apparently she wasn’t good at remembering things like names either. “Anything is better than that crappy Halloween stuff. Sure. Sephora sounds good. I’m done looking at this stuff anyway.” She could come back and get decorations later.
