Obi-Wan is aging surprisingly well (obi1) wrote in valarlogs,
Obi-Wan looked across the ring. He looked at Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers, celebrated in the courts of the Seven Kingdoms. He looked at him without knowing any of this, but he looked at him with the highest esteem.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
They stood and the bell was rung for the final time. For a while, there was no contact. Too long, perhaps; the crowd began to cry for fresh blood. But who among them could have possibly known what was going through either man's head?
It was Obi-Wan who moved first, with a set of quick jabs that sent Loras close to the ropes. He had no intention of falling immediately. He'd give Loras the fair fight he deserved for as long as possible. Because while Loras would hate him now and love him later, Obi-Wan was very good at doing both at the same time.
It lasted a long while, their battle. Obi-Wan allowed himself to care about winning more than once, as parts of him kicked in and clicked as they always did when they were paired off against each other. They were as stubborn as they were evenly matched--evenly matched for the first time, because Obi-Wan was finally fighting only one man, instead of two. For a few minutes, he had given up fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi as well.
When he fell, he fell with dignity: knowing he could get up, if he truly wished, but wanting even more to see Loras's hand raised high above him. He had given Loras as good a fight as he had to offer. And now it was over. He closed his eyes. A bloody smile was on his face.
