Who: Remus Lupin & Sirius Black When: Backdated: Saturday, October 19th. Morning Where: Sirius' House What: The Morning After Remus' First Werewolf Transformation Rating: Family Friendly Status: Complete
As Remus’ eyes fluttered open, it took him a moment or two to remember where he was and why he was lying on the floor, naked. The cement was cool under his skin, but as he continued waking up, he became aware of the aching in his joints and shut his eyes once more as a low groan escaped his lips. As he lay there, the events of the previous night suddenly flooded back to him. He’d transformed. For the first time since he’d dreamt about being a werewolf, he’d transformed. Opening his eyes again, he glanced around the basement as his eyes adjusted to the dim light filtering in through the small basement windows and based on the lack of destruction, it appeared that the wolfsbane had done its intended job and Remus had remained in control of his mind.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed himself up into a sitting position, groaning again at the ache in his arms and back and shoulders then suddenly remembered Padfoot. Sirius had transformed moments before Remus’ had begun, but where was Sirius? “Sirius…” His voice was hoarse from sleep and he cleared his throat before speaking again, “Sirius, are you down here?”
Padfoot was napping in front of the stairs, effectively acting like a furry roadblock to try and prevent anyone from going up the stairs. His ears twitched and perked up when he heard Remus calling his name and his eyes snapped open. The large black dog ran over to Remus’ side and nuzzled him for a moment, then quickly transformed back to his normal self. “Hey… how’re you feeling?” he asked softly. Sirius reached over to grab a nearby blanket and wrapped it around his boyfriend.
Remus heard Padfoot’s nails on the basement floor before the big black dog nuzzled him and just as quick as that happened, he was Sirius again, “I’m alright. Achy, but better than I’d been expecting.” He wondered if that had been because of the Wolfsbane or if his body was simply used to the achy feeling he’d been getting the morning after the full moon for the last few months. Pulling the blanket around him, he gave Sirius a tired smile; yeah, he’d be sleeping for most of the day once they went upstairs, “Thank you. Do you remember anything from last night?”
Sirius nodded and carefully helped Remus to his feet. “Yeah… all of it. It was a lot like what happened in my dreams. Except… well, it was here.” He affectionately ruffled Remus’ hair and began slowly leading him up the stairs. “Come on… let’s get you upstairs and into a hot bath so you can relax a little.”
Remus winced slightly as Sirius helped him to his feet and they started up the stairs, “I think the Wolfsbane made a huge difference.” Not that he was about to test that next month and go without it the week before the full moon or anything. “And of course, Padfoot being there.” Without either the potion or Sirius, Remus surely would have destroyed anything in the basement over the course of the night.
“Hey… however I can help, right? It’s why we all learned how to become Animagi in the first place,” Sirius reminded him. “I’m worried though, Remus. The stuff from the dreams is all happening here now. What if Voldemort were ever to turn up here? What if the dreams are really our real lives, but someone cast a spell or something to bring us here and to make us believe that this is actually our real life?” Even his accent had slowly started to change as he’d had more and more dreams. With each passing one, Sirius was starting to sound more and more like his dream counterpart from the Wizarding World.
As they reached the landing of the first floor, Remus turned to Sirius, “I’ve worried the same things, but I truly believe that this is our real life. As mad as it seems now, I believe that.” He wasn’t sure what the dreams were exactly, but he didn’t think those were their real lives. Remus’ accent had also started bleeding over within the last few months, “Hopefully this is as far as it goes and we’ll never have to worry about Voldemort.” Remus tried not to think of the Dark Marks that had shown up in the sky a few months earlier around the time Sirius’ uncle had died.
“I’m not so sure sometimes,” Sirius admitted. “But even if it is or isn’t, there’s not much we can really do about it.” He shrugged his shoulders and continued down the hall, helping Remus into the master bathroom. Sirius carefully helped him to sit and grinned. “Stay…” he said, as he started running a hot bath. “So… want bubbles?” he teased.
Remus laughed as Sirius moved to run the bath, “Shouldn’t I be telling you to stay? You are the dog after all.” He was lucky to have Sirius there, helping him despite the fact that Remus could probably run his own bath. He wasn’t as achey as he’d been in the dreams after a transformation and was grateful to Severus for being able to brew the Wolfsbane, “I suppose some bubbles would be nice.”
“You’re such a girl sometimes,” Sirius joked. He added some bubbles to the water and swirled it around to start it mixing, then smirked and shook his head. “You can tell me to stay, but I’m a bad dog. Remember? So there’s a pretty good chance that I wouldn’t listen anyways.”
Remus quirked a brow at Sirius, “I haven’t moved in just yet, which means those bubbles belong to you. So, who is a girl again?” As he sat, waiting for the water to fill the tub, Remus let the blanket fall off her shoulders, now that they were no longer in the basement and he moved to peer into the mirror, relieved to see that there were no scratches or bruises adorning his skin like there had been in the dreams after transformations.
“You… because that’s why I bought them.” He smiled impishly and winked at Remus. “So… stupid question, but do you remember any of it? You know… while you were transformed?” He scratched at his hair and let his eyes roam over Remus’ body.
“As if you don’t use them when I’m not here.” Remus glanced over at Sirius, smirking then turned completely at the question, running a hand through his hair, “I didn’t when I first woke up, but I do now. I remember having complete control over myself whereas in the dreams I watched what I did as a wolf, but the wolf was in control.” He would have to let Severus know that the wolfsbane worked the way it was supposed to.
“I don’t!” he protested. “Well, I did use it as shampoo the one time when I had forgotten to run to the store to replace mine when it was empty. But anyways, doesn’t matter.” He waved a hand to dismiss any further comments about the bubbles. When Remus began to explain, Sirius nodded quietly. “I had a feeling that control wasn’t a problem. Because otherwise, Padfoot would’ve had to keep your furry ass in line. And for most of the night, all I had to do was keep you away from the stairs, sleep, or watch you sniff around the basement.”
There was no doubt in Remus’ mind that Sirius would substitute one thing for another if he ran out and the thought caused him to smile. “I like to think that even if I had gotten upstairs, I wouldn’t have tried to get out. I didn’t feel the wolf the way I did in the dreams.” Once the tub had filled up, Remus moved to get in, slowly sinking down into the hot, bubbly water, “Oh and we may want to call an exterminator. I smelled mice in the basement.” How exactly Remus knew he had smelled mice was beyond him, but that’s what Moony’s nose had told him.
Sirius arched an eyebrow and made a face at Remus’ comment. “You can’t just catch them for me?” he teased. “Maybe have some mice munchies next time you have a full moon?” But before Remus could say anything, Sirius smirked and quickly added, “Just kidding! You know I wouldn’t do that to you. I’ll check into it later. Or maybe we should just get ourselves a cat for a pet.”
Remus mirrored Sirius’ face in response to his comment, “You only want a cat so that Padfoot can chase it.” He honestly wouldn’t put it past Sirius, “But it’s something to think about.” He paused for a moment as he let the hot water relax his muscles then glanced back up at Sirius, “You could join me, you know.” The tub was more than big enough to accommodate two.
“Oh please! If I wanted something to chase, I’d get us a hot pool boy or girl!” He smirked and reached over to ruffle Remus’ hair. “I could… but then I’d lose all desire to cook you breakfast. So how about a compromise? I’ll go fix the food and then put a charm on it so it stays warm, then I’ll come back to join you.”
Remus quirked a brow at Sirius then a small smile spread across his lips, “You have a pool boy. Or had you forgotten?” He let Sirius ruffle his hair then glanced back up at him again, “I suppose that’s a compromise I can live with.” Remus really was extremely grateful that they had worked things out and that he wouldn’t have to go through his transformations alone.
