Damon checked the board and pushed another piece out. His hand moved over his chin. He hadn't shaved for a few days, and he was scruffy. He had tried to live life with no regrets, have some fun along the way, and forget the past. Those three were not an easy combination, especially since he was going to regret losing Elena. That would hurt for a long time.
He shrugged and laughed a little. "My college days were interesting. Let's just say that fraternity parties really are all the rage, and there are a lot of girls that are very willing to let you entertain them. I do want a family though. I want all this." He motioned around the room. "I just - I screw up everything. I do it naturally. If she'll talk to me, I will try." That was really all he could promise. He knew that he couldn't shut her out, not at all. This was Elena and she made an impression on him that was not something he could ever forget.
