Who: Lydia and Lexi What: Massages When: Saturday afternoon Where: Some massage place Rating: PGish, talk of scars and things Status: Complete
It had been perfect timing really; that one woman telling Lexi she should get a massage at the same time that Lydia posted about what had happened to her as a result of the dreams and while Lexi enjoyed massages from Huck, every now and then she liked going for a professional massage and what a better way to help Lydia get some relaxation after her dreams than to suggest they go get massages? There was a spa that Lexi went to every now and then, so the morning after they had talked about it, Lexi called to make appointments for them and now the blond was waiting outside for Lydia to show up.
Lydia was still a little shaky on her feet. They told her to take it easy, and she did so. She was resting like they told her but she was kind of freaked out by everything. She didn’t know what to say to people. So when Lexi said they should go get massages, she was all too happy to get the heck out for a while and not think about her sad lack of a love life or anything else. She’d managed to drive herself to the spa, and got out of the car. She waved at Lexi. Lydia looked a bit pale, but okay for the moment. All of the injuries were hidden. “Hey. Thanks for inviting me. I could use this.”
Lexi smiled when she saw the auburn haired girl and moved to give her a hug, not too tight though, because she wasn’t sure if her injuries she’d sustained from the dreams still hurt. “How’re you feeling?” She asked as she released Lydia and gestured towards the door of the spa. She was looking forward to this massage and was sure that Lydia was too.
She gave Lexi a hug in return, though of course not too hard. She tried not to wince or anything. Lydia was still in a lot of pain. “Like I got run over, but okay. I’m hoping that this is going to not cause me a bunch of pain. Guess we’ll see.” She thought this was just what she needed to feel like herself again.
“Just tell them what’s up and I’m sure they’ll know just what to do to help. That’s what these people are there for.” Wasn’t that what massage therapy was all about? Knowing how to fix aches and pains? Lexi pushed the door open for Lydia then went to up to the counter and gave the girl her name, which the reservation was under. After checking in, Lexi turned back to Lydia while they waited to be brought back to a room, “You don’t mind sharing a room, do you? If you’d rather a private massage, I’m sure they can find another room.” Lexi had no shame, but she hadn’t realized until now that Lydia might be a little self conscience because of her new scars.
“Good idea.” Maybe they had some weird bath thing they could put her in.Or acupucture or something. She followed after Lexi to the room and shook her head. “Nah. It’s fine. I apologize for anything that you might see.” Though she hadn’t actually shown anyone what had happened to her. Not really. Still while they waited, she stripped out of her clothes and put on a towel/robe thing. Her scars were extensive. One giant one on her side. And she was bruised and cut up. It was pretty bad.
While Lydia changed, Lexi did as well and was soon wrapped in a towel, waiting for their masseuses to come in and tell them what to do next, “You don’t have to apologize, Lydia. None of this is your fault. Just remember, everything is still fresh. I’m sure that it’ll all fade with time and soon the scar won’t seem so bad.” She hoped that she was being reassuring, because she could tell how upset Lydia was by the injuries she had sustained as a result of the dreams. How dreams could do this stuff to people was absolutely insane.
“I hope you’re right, because this thing is god ugly and I feel horrible.” Physically and otherwise. Lydia felt dejected and lonely. Her brother was hooking up with her best friend. Everyone she knew was shacked up and getting boyfriends and she was alone as they possibly got. And every guy she ever clicked with, was way too old for her. And they didn’t want to go after some underage girl. She got it though, she understood. But still she was just down in the dumps. Completely. She got down on the table and waited for the lady to come in to start the massage.
“Try one of those scar minimizing creams. It can’t hurt, ya know?” Lexi felt awful for Lydia. She was such a pretty girl and nice and now she had to deal with dreams that left her with physical scars that may or may not fade with time. Lexi’s dreams hadn’t been the best so far, but her scars were all emotional and she was a master at masking them; after all, she acted every time she went to work and pretended to be a princess.
“Do those things actually work? I always thought that had to be a bunch of crap.” But maybe if they worked, she would try it. Lydia didn’t know how else to get a scar to go away. Of course this was one giant scar, so she didn’t know how good it would be on it. It was much easier to hide emotional scars than physical ones, but still. “I guess I’ll give it a try. Can’t make it any worse.” That was for sure.
Lexi shrugged as she got up on her own table and made herself comfortable while they waited, “Or, maybe someone on valarnet can do something about it. I mean, if there are vampires and werewolves and superheroes then maybe there’s someone who can get rid of scars.” She shrugged as best she could as she stared across at Lydia.
“I guess maybe. I’ve never read about anyone in books or tv shows that can do that, but you never know.” Lydia was quiet for a moment and then, she said. “I’m not sure that I actually want it to go away. I mean it’s hideous and ugly and I can’t wear a bathing suit anymore but..I went through something. Or well my dream self did.. maybe that’s stupid.”
Lexi shook her head, “No, I don’t think that’s stupid. You went through something horrible and survived and have the scars to prove it.” She wished there was something else she could do to help Lydia, “Honestly though, only time will tell what you will and won’t be able to do. It’s new, I’m sure it’ll fade a little.”
“Exactly. Except it’s a little fake. I mean I didn’t really go through that.” Though it felt like she had. Who knew anymore? Were the dreams real? Lydia hated existentialism. She shut her eyes and let the masseuse do what she was supposed to do. “Yeah. Only time will tell. Good thing I have so much patience.” That part was totally sarcastic. “Oh god, I’m one of the least patient people ever.” Lexi smirked as her masseuse started working on her, “But I think you’re gonna be alright, Lydia. You’re not alone. I think the majority of us who have dreamt have gotten the short end of the stick.” She reached a hand out, across the space between their two massage beds, holding it out for Lydia to take, wanting to show the other girl that she had support from other people.
“Me too. But you’re right. No one has happy and shiny dreams. I get that.” At least she wasn’t alone. Well no, she was a bit. She squeezed Lexi’s hand back and smiled. “Ugh maybe one of these days, a boy will actually find me attractive. Thanks for this. I feel better already.”
