Hey! Hey! Don't go with him he's skeevy!
Who: Lara, Sam, and Jubilee
What: Out dancing
When: Last week
Where: A club
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13 for dirty dancing, awkward times, and Jubilee's mouth

Jubilee was happy to meet a new clubbing buddy! Her dress was yellow and sheer and just too short enough. She was already waiting for Sam and her friend, bouncing on her heels and ready for a good time.

Lara Croft and heels were like...nemesis. She decided this as she clung to Sam. She could walk in them, but it was a good enough excuse to touch her friend. Her face was flushed and she made a beeline for the bar when they arrived, giving her hips a bit of a sashay, mostly because she knew Sam was looking. She just needed some serious drinking right now. Because that dress on Sam...was going to kill her.

The dress was the best dress idea Sam had ever had, she was sure of it. It just needed a little more sparkle on it than the rhinestones that had been set around the cuts in it. But she wasn't about to ruin good fashion with her own sparkle needs. So instead, she'd donned clear plastic sandal heels with silver, sparkling straps.

She was an expert at walking, running, and even stumbling drunkenly in heels, so she was more than enough support for her friend. She grinned at Jubilee when she saw her, waving a hand, "HEY, you! That dress is hot!"

Lara's hand fell to Sam's butt, and she might have even squeezed a little bit, but she barely noticed what she was doing.

"I know it! You know it!" Jubilee grinned at them and bounced up. She posed, flouncing a bit for both of them. "You and your grrrrlfriend look smokin'!"

"Eh...er we're not..." Lara held up a hand and waved it.

"Oh lol, no, you've got the wrong impression!" Sam waved her hands in front of herself and shook her head a bit, grinning. It wasn't an insult - Sam had had a few girls in her day and the idea of dating a woman wasn't horrible.

Just... her and Lara were not that way, "Everyone always makes that mistake. It's okay! LETS GET SHOTS!"

"Uh huh, sure." Jubilee was pretty sure those two were a couple of wine coolers from screaming each others names, but okay then! She glomped an arm around each of them and guided them towards the bar.

Lara opted to change the subject. "You've come here often? I mean, for dancing."

"Totes. Less so now that I'm married but I like to shake it up some!"

"You don't have to get all boring when you get married!" Sam declared. She sashayed up to the bar and grinned at the bartender, "We'd like to start off the evening with a round of shots. We're from the valarnet!"

That first round would be free, but she had tons of cash in her wallet for later on. She was going to get them all smashed enough to earn that taxi ride later. The shots were poured, and she picked one up, "Here's to a night of awesome fun!"

"Yep! I like to lead by example. One day when you find your sweethearts, you'll want to not get boring either. Like some people I know." Jubilee hopped onto a stool, spinning around in a circle and making fireworks with her fingers.

Lara positioned herself on the other side of Sam, and had hard time keeping her hand off of the woman's back. Jubilee was a little crazy. A whole lot crazy. But it was a fun crazy. "Isn't this where we play that game about boys, Sam?"

Boys, of course, weren’t anywhere on her mind.

"Fireworks!" Sam pointed at Jubilee, momentarily distracted from Lara's hand on her back, the feelings it gave her, or the fact that the hand being there had made the thought of boys flee from her own mind, too.

She picked up another shot and knocked it back, "More fireworks Jubes, omg!"

"Fireworks!" Jubilee bounced, and threw her hands in the air, like she just didn't care! Light exploded with popping and paffing sounds.

"I'm not even going to pretend I know how that works." Lara knocked back her own shot. Her limbs warmed up a little and she withdrew her hand before it did something she didn't want it to. Her eyes scanned the crowd, looking for...well something. She had a general idea of the kind of man Sam found attractive, even if she didn’t want to really point any out. It was kind of her duty, wasn’t it?

"It's magic! Like the milk that makes the sparkles in those lattes, and the fact that Dani can talk to her cats. Sigh, Lara, stop being so practical." Sam playfully punched Lara on the shoulder and then grabbed another shot before jumping off her chair and grabbing Jubilee's hand.

"Come on, it's time to dancing now!"

“I like to be practical,” Lara protested. She watched as her friend dragged Jubilee out to the dance floor and bit her lip to keep from frowning. She needed another shot, so she ordered one and knocked it back before looking for someone to dance with.

Jubilee cheered. “Okay you ever do the sexy girl dancing with girl thing to draw guys?” She glanced back at Lara for a moment.

Lara had found a stunning blonde woman with sharp features and a predatory glint in her eyes.

"All the time!" Sam grinned. Her eyes skipped over Lara and the skanky whoreblonde woman she'd found, instead settling on a handsome, dark gentleman standing a bit behind her and to the left.

She winked at the man, then bumped her hip against Jubilee, with a giggle.

Jubilee shimmied her waist, and then began to dance in the dirtiest manner she knew how, helping guide Sam towards her target.

Lara kept glancing in their direction and frowning, only to have the blonde draw her attention back. She didn’t feel that comfortable yet. This used to be easy. A few drinks, dance with Sam, let some guy take her from there. Find someone else to dance with and be too drunk to care how awkward she was.

At least the woman she was with was difficult to pull away from.

The dancing was sexy enough that it almost managed to distract Sam from her target, which was the usual: find a guy to bring home or even just have right there. It was Sam on autopilot, really, and she didn't know what to do with herself if she wasn't doing what everyone expected.

Except that Lara with that blonde woman was almost enough to turn her away from the guy, even though Jubilee had managed to reel him in and shower her with fireworks like she was some kind of superstar.

Sam focused her attention on the cute guy, and grinned at him, "Hey there."

The guy grinned at her, and swept her away from Jubilee. "Hey there, cutie." He clearly had only one thing in mind when he looked at her. It was the sort of hunger she was probably used to, which was different than the looks Lara gave in unguarded moments.

For her part, Lara was rapidly losing control of the situation with the blonde woman. They were dancing too close, and she had trouble breathing. Despite how attracted she was she couldn't quite shake the feeling that she was being felt up by the wrong person. She wasn't stopping her, though.

She saw Sam with the man and tried to catch her eye.

No, no no no, Lara wasn't going to lure Sam away from the guy with a mere look. She was trying - desperately in fact - not to even look in Lara's direction. Instead she turned and winked at Jubilee like their mission had been accomplished, then turned back to the cute guy.

One of her hands expertly flipped hair away from her shoulder, while the ran its way up the guy's arm. She snuggled in close, then smirked at him and whispered, "Want to test the weight limit on the bathroom sink?"

Because that's what she did, after all. And most of the time - MOST of the time - it felt good.

Lara stopped dancing as Sam and the man slipped towards the bathroom. The blonde scoffed in her ear and shoved her away. Her shoulder hurt but she ignored it.

Jubilee thought that was the most forlorn, kicked puppy look she'd ever seen. "Oh shiz. Kneeeeeeeeeew it." She started running towards Sam. "Hey! Hey! Don't go with him he's skeevy! Date rape! Syphilis! He's got Syphilis!"

Lara covered her face. "Jubilee!"

Sam stopped mid-step and turned to look at Jubes, her expression extremely confused. It was more a reaction to the fact that the woman was shouting those things over the music than it was to the words coming out of her mouth. She stared a bit, then said, "How do you know?"

“I just do trust me he’s got all the signs,” Jubilee exclaimed. She grabbed a random woman, who looked wide eyed at her. “Even she agrees don’t you?” She shoved the woman away before she could say anything. “It’s totes true.”

The man gaped at her. “You little bitch!”

Lara grabbed onto Jubilee’s arm. “Stop that, leave them alone.” She needed another drink.

"Why would you dance me all the way over here and THEN tell me--" Sam flailed one of her arms in the air in a classic 'wtf dude' gesture. She glanced at Lara, then at Jubilee, then back at the man in question, and put both of her hands on her head for a second, "Don't call my friend a bitch. That's not exactly helping your situation."

And why was Lara stepping in? She looked at her friend, "Lara?"

Scowling, Lara grabbed Sam's hand and pulled her back onto the dance floor. "She's right. You can do better than him." In her inebriated state she nearly added 'With me' but she wasn't that far gone yet.

Jubilee glowered at the man until he shrank away from her, then laughed.

"And I'm apparently having bad luck myself." She rubbed at her shoulder, trying to ignore the smokey look that blonde was still giving her.

"This is seriously killing my buzz," Sam said, pouting a bit. It was supposed to be happy fun times dance party night, not drama everywhere. She cast a longing look back in the direction of the man, who flipped her off from the place he'd slunk off to.

"... but I guess I can do better than a guy who's going to be a rude ass when he doesn't get what he wants," She added. She flipped him off in return, then headed back to the bar, "Who wants to be drunker than they are now? ME."

This was Jubilee's fault. And her own fault. Lara should have concentrated more on her dance partner and less on what Sam was doing. She grabbed Sam's hand as they approached the bar. "One for me too, then we'll try to bait someone else for you."

The thought of dancing close to Sam made her pulse quicken. Her blood was already running hot.

More drink was required!

"Maybe." Sam wasn't really sure that's what she wanted. She was definitely sure that wasn't what Lara wanted. She just wished that Lara would actually say so. She wished that Lara would just come out with it so that she could stop pretending that this life was what she wanted.

She also wished she had the guts to say it herself. Sam glanced at Jubilee, and raised her eyebrows. Maybe she could interfere again. Because yo, that was another thing she was good at.

"God you guys need to fuck and get it over with, yo!" Jubilee practically shouted that as she danced towards them. Lara's face turned redder than the dress of a woman behind her.

"Why do people always assume that? We're just friends," Lara insisted, a little too strongly. She looked at Sam, unsure. She wanted to say more, wanted to touch Sam, wanted to know it would be okay to do all those things. She drank another shot. "You're...the most important person in my life." Losing her would be like a gaping chasm in her chest.

Well, that wasn't the help she'd been looking for from Jubilee. Or maybe it was. Was it? God, Sam had no idea. She'd ordered an entire glass of something, but when Lara strongly insisted they were just friends, she emptied it entirely and slammed it down on the bar.

She was going to prove something to someone. Somehow. Sam wasn't really thinking very clearly. The liquor was easy to blame, though she and Lara both knew that she didn't get drunk that easily.

But she grabbed Lara's hand, and pulled her off to the dance floor.

Sam’s hand sent a shock through Lara’s skin and she bit her lip when she collided against the other woman after Sam had stopped. It was the most natural thing for their bodies to press together. Sam had fantastic rhythm even when drunk, and Lara’s improved the more drink she had in her. Sam’s back was pressed against her front, and their hips practically locked together as they danced.

She ran her hands down Sam’s sides and had to stop herself from nuzzling behind the woman’s ear. She got really close to doing it, though.

Jubilee watched this, with her mouth hanging open. “Holy shiz that’s hot!”

There were several parts of Sam that were starting to not care even remotely that Lara was pressed that close to her, that her friends hands were rubbing up and down her. When they'd walked into the place, dancing with Lara like this hadn't even been on her radar. Now that they were, Sam thought it was the most natural thing in the world.

She could feel Lara's breath on her neck. She wanted that kiss. She wanted those lips pressed against her.

God that was confusing as hell. But she didn't stop dancing. It just fueled her movements for some reason. Sam almost felt like if they danced like that long enough, she'd stop feeling so confused.

Lara's lips brushed against Sam's ear. There was no space between, and she liked that. She was Sam's, if only for the space of this dance. She was always Sam's, she reasoned, just not in all the ways possible.

She wanted to be Sam's in all the ways possible but the words tripped over her tongue and they amounted to nothing but a breathless groan.

Lara thought she might have the nerve to say something, say anything, but the song ended and with it the moment was broken. It was like coming up for air after a long swim, and she was dazed.

Lara wasn’t the only one. Sam felt like her head was spinning. She felt like she was emerging from some other world and felt disoriented in the one they were now in, where the song was different.

And Jubilee was staring at them. Why was she staring at them? No, she knew why Jubes was staring at them, and it actually made her blush a bit.

"MORE DRINKS!" She declared, to make up for it. If she was smashed to the point of no return, Sam figured, she'd probably stop caring so much.

Hours could have passed. Lara was pretty sure it was well past 3am when they stumbled through the door of her house, propping each other up and giggling at some comment that wasn’t nearly as funny as it sounded.

She had the distinct recollection of the taste of Sam’s lips and the feel of her body under her hand the next morning, but things had gone blank shortly after that.

The hangover the next morning was epic, but she was just really, really grateful they both still had pants on.

It was a level of gratefulness that Sam hadn't been sure she shared. On the one hand, it might have broken down some kind of barrier between them. It would have at least forced them to talk about it.

But on the other hand, she was glad that they hadn't had that experience when neither of them were sober enough to remember it. So they carried on that day the way they normally would.

Sam just wasn't sure why she suddenly felt like she was missing something.

For Lara, she felt like she was missing something to, and she knew what it was. She just didn’t want to bring it up while they were both hung over, and by the time her head had cleared she’d lost her nerve. Besides, Sam seemed to be her usual self, and Lara just wanted to see her happy.
