Damian was sprawled out on the couch, random sheets of paper strewn around him. He was going over the information to get his GED, to see exactly what he needed to do. Ever since Talia had died and he’d dropped out of school to move to Orange County in search of his father, getting his GED had been something he’d intended to do, but then he’d found out he needed to be at least seventeen and then he’d started dating Alyssa and started working and making friends and it had just gotten pushed to the back burner. Now, however, he was determined to finally get it. He wanted to be able to enroll in college as soon as he was eligible and figured out exactly how he was going to pay for it. He still had money from his grandfather and mother, but didn’t know if he wanted to spend it all on school. Sometimes he really hated being thrust into the adult world the way he had been.
Alyssa moved into the living room, grinning when she saw Damian surrounded by stacks of paper. “Oh dear, are you planning to overthrow the government again?” Curling up next to him, she ran her fingers through his hair.
“You know it,” Damian smirked as he wrapped his arm around Alyssa’s shoulders and set the papers aside, “But I can’t tell you anything cause then I’d have to kill you.” He kissed her temple, still smirking. “What’re you up to?”
“Oh, living in fear of your eventual murdering of me.” She burrowed closer to him, wrapping her arms around his waist. “Thinking about cuddling you and watching telly anyway. What about you? You’re the one who looks like a busy bee.”
“You should. I was trained as an assassin, remember? I could be hiding anywhere when you least expect it,” Damian’s skills had gotten ten times better over the last couple of months with his training from Kitty as well as the training he’d received in the dreams, practically from birth. “Cuddling is how I lull you into a false sense of security.” He smirked, poking Alyssa in the ribs, lightly then gestured towards the stuff on the coffee table, “GED info.”
“Ah, you’re going to kill me with your diploma. Cunning, you are.” She grinned, nipping his ear sharply. “Yet you seem to forget I can bloody teleport, son.”
“No fair, pulling out the teleporting card,” Damian laughed as she nipped at his ear then he turned to press a kiss to her lips, “I guess I’ll just have to be so sneaky that you don’t have a chance to teleport away.”
“You’re welcome to try,” Alyssa murmured. She pulled him closer, finally just moving to sit in his lap. “Have I told you today that I love you, my darling?”
Damian smirked, his hands moving to rest on her hips once she was in his lap, “Oh, I’ll try.” Now that would be an interesting training program. Damian trying to catch Alyssa before she could teleport. At her question, his smirk widened a bit as he pretended to have to think about that, “You might have said it this morning, but I was groggy, so I don’t remember.”
“Well, I do.” Alyssa kissed him and then turned to look at the forms he was filling out. “Want any help?”
“I love you too,” Damian said, kissing her back then followed her gaze towards the papers and he shook his head, “Nah. I want to take a break actually. I can finish them tomorrow.” He wanted to get the process moving towards getting his GED, but he was totally fine with putting it aside tonight to spend some time with Alyssa, “Hey, are we doing anything for Halloween?” Damian hadn’t really done anything in the last few years, but something about this year felt different.
“Not that I know of.” She flopped off of him and let her legs dangle in his lap. “Why, do you want to do something?” Last year there’d been zombies, right? Alyssa wondered if they even could do anything.
Damian had still been in Chicago during Halloween the year before, so he had no idea what had gone on in The OC and wasn’t even thinking that something crazy might happen, “We could probably find something. Have you ever been on a haunted hayride or anything like that?” He was sure there were haunted attractions around.
“I’ve not, no. Last year I think there were zombies, so I just stayed home, I think. I also didn’t have anyone around that I knew very well.” She reached out to take his hand, stroking his knuckles.
“Well then we should do something. I’ve spent the last few Halloweens just sitting at home, so it’d be fun to do something.” He reached into his pocket, with his free hand, for his phone then brought up google to look up haunted attractions in the area, “There’s a place called The Empty Graveyard in Anaheim,” He said, squeezing her hand, “We’d just have to be careful that if anyone jumped out at us, that we didn’t accidently hit them or anything.” That would put a damper on their night and probably get them kicked out.
Alyssa snorted. “I’d rather not go to jail that night, thanks. Though I suppose that would be fairly safe, yeah?”
“Yeah, we’re both too pretty for jail.” Although, the both of them would probably be able to take care of themselves fairly easily in jail. “I wonder if we should dress up. Could be fun.” He wondered if there were any Halloween parties in the area on Halloween itself.
“We could always look for costumes. If worst comes to worst, we can likely just wear them somewhere else.” Alyssa twirled her hair around her finger, wondering what Damian would suggest for her to wear.
“It might sound silly, but I kind of want to dress up since I haven’t done it in so long and this year has been so tough. I kind of just want to act like a teenager for one night,” Damian shrugged, hoping it didn’t make him sound immature or anything. Alyssa was only a little less than a year older than him, but she always acted so much more mature that sometimes he worried that he wasn’t mature enough for her.
“I understand that,” she smiled. “Sometimes I feel ... very, very old.” She was quiet, but she curled up closer to him. She was happy for the most part, but sometimes she just felt exhausted.
Damian nodded and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, “Then we need to start acting more like teenagers. Starting with dressing up on Halloween.” He smirked, running his fingers through her hair. He’d already been forced to grow up faster than other kids his age, but that didn’t mean he had to be a grownup right now. “We should go costume searching when you get out of class tomorrow.”
“I’d like that. Just make sure I don’t look like a mad whore. Don’t pick out a slutty ninja tortoise or something for me, you know?” Alyssa smirked, squeezing his hand and flopping down a bit more comfortably.
“I’d never do that to you,” Damian hated when other guys looked at Alyssa when she was wearing a short skirt, he wouldn’t deliberately pick out something that showed everything off. Damian liked it better when he was the only one who got to see her like that, “You mean Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?” He laughed softly and squeezed her hand back, “And you should pick out your own costume. I mean, I’ll give my opinion and everything, but you should decide what you want to wear.”
“I don’t know your silly cartoons, I didn’t know what they were called.” Alyssa smiled to herself and wiggled her toes. “I appreciate you thinking I should pick out my costume.” She sat up to kiss him again, running her fingers through his hair. “What are you going to go as?”
“I guess I’ll have to educate you then,” Damian didn’t actually watch much TV aside from sports, so he was mostly teasing her. When asked what he was going to go as, Damian shrugged, “I have no idea. Guess we’ll just have to see what they have when we go look. I’m sure something will jump out at us.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever really done anything for Halloween before.” IT wasn’t really as big of a deal at her boarding school. They got caramel apples, but that was about it.
“Then I’m glad I get to spend your first real Halloween with you.” Damian smiled, pressing a kiss to her lips, “So, tomorrow when you get out of class, we’ll go to the mall and see what we can find. It’ll be fun.” As silly as it sounded he was looking forward to going costume shopping, “Right now, we should watch a movie or something. I could go for something with explosions.”
“Put in whatever you like,” Alyssa smiled.
“Alright. Do you want some tea or anything else while I’m up?” Damian asked as he got up off the couch and stretched, not having realized until now just how long he’d been sitting going over the GED papers.
“A cuppa would be nice,” Alyssa beamed. She felt lucky that Damian actually was okay with offering her tea at all - she was often teased for her tendencies to have a cup of tea a few after a few hours.
“Do you want me to make you something to eat?” She smiled and stood up with him, tugging him down by the shirt for a kiss.
Damian laughed as she tugged him back down and he kissed her back then rested his forehead against hers. “How about I start the tea for you and some hot chocolate for me then pick the movie and you make something to eat.” Between those two things, they would probably be done at the same time and be ready for the movie. “By the way, one of these days we have to go out and do something reckless like most teenagers instead of being all domestic.” Not that Damian minded being domestic, but considering the nature of both of their dreams and their training, doing something reckless seemed like something they should do.
“I can do that.” Alyssa liked being domestic, but it was true, they were too young to be old fuddy duddies yet. Kissing him again, she let her fingers run along his cheekbones. “I love you loads, you know that?” She wondered if her friends were right, if she was going to marry him someday when they were done with school.
Damian grinned, “I know and I love you loads too.” He’d already decided that he was getting her a promise ring for Christmas, so if that meant anything, he was in it for the long haul. He couldn’t picture himself with anyone else and it wasn’t just because she was his first love, but if they could get through everything that they had so far then they could get through anything together.
