Athelstan had fairly beelined over to Eli’s house in Anaheim, caring not at all for the relative lateness of the hour. He’d been told where the back door key was, so he simply dug it out of the little patch of dirt that he’d marked last time he was there, and let himself in. There were alarms and such, but he trusted Eli to disarm those temporarily.
He tried to be quiet when he got inside, if only because Eli’s father still had a hair-trigger sense of when to look out for his daughter. “Eli? Hello?”
She’d disarmed the alarms and made sure her father was snoring when she heard Athelstan call for her. “Hello,” she beamed. “Keep that key, it is for you anyway.” They weren’t the sort to keep housekeys outside, not with all the ghosts of her father’s enemies around.
“Oh. Thank you.” Athelstan pocketed it, then went to wrap his arms around her. He smiled, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Hello, my dear.”
“Hello,” Eli beamed. Cupping his cheeks gently, she pressed a kiss to his mouth, sighing in contentment. “I have missed you.”
“I’m sorry, truly.” Athelstan smiled ruefully, enjoying that kiss. “It was school, and then that cursed video game. I won’t pretend I didn’t have fun, but I ought not to have neglected you.”
“I would not call it neglect. I have been busy with university applications.” She grinned, a bright and happy one that made her look as young as her body was.
“Still, it has been too long.” Athelstan smiled again, this time happier. “You look very pleased. Have the applications been going well, then?”
“I think I have a good chance of going to USC online.” Eli blushed and bit her lower lip. “I am thrilled.”
“Oh, that is excellent!” Athelstan laughed. “Online would seem much better for you as well, since I know you worry.” Her age and her body not matching up, well. He could see where it would be an issue.
“Yes. And I may take all of my instruction at night.” She tiptoed up a little to run her fingers lightly over his jawline.
“Oh, I’m so pleased.” Athelstan smiled, eyes fluttering closed at that light touch. “I’m really delighted, my dear.” She’d wanted this so badly.
“I have that and you are here, and I’m just very happy.” Eli chuckled. “If my heart still beat, it would be going very fast.” She’d been sure to feed that evening when she awoke, just so she’d be warm.
He appreciated it, though it wasn’t completely necessary. He liked holding her close, trying to will his own warmth across to her. “Would you like to go down to your room?” It sounded silly, but some of their best moments were when they were just watching television and cuddling. He loved having her in his arms.
“Please.” Eli smiled at him, stealing another kiss before walking slowly in the direction of her room. “Papa is snoring so loudly, I have had to have the television on this evening.”
Athelstan chuckled. “He just seems like the sort to snore. That kind of man.” Hairy and gruff and a hard sleeper.
“Feral?” Eli laughed, wrapping her arms around Athelstan again and kissing him just a tiny bit more firmly.
He was just thinking that word might suffice when Eli kissed him again. He decided to let his feelings dictate what he did, and returned that kiss with a firmness that he might once have found astonishing.
Eli found it astonishing at that exact moment. Not in an unpleasant way, but in the way where she wanted to press it a tiny bit further, to make the moment linger. When she entered her room, it was backwards, with her arms around his shoulders.
Athelstan was, somehow, fine with that. He sighed, smiling, risking letting his hands rest at her sides, feeling her chilled skin under the pads of his fingers. He didn’t know where this daring was coming from, but it was there, nonetheless.
Her fingers curled in the soft hair at the back of his neck where it was curliest, and she leaned back to bite her lip. “I love you, you know.”
“I know. I feel the same way.” He was still getting used to saying it out loud - he wasn’t sure why - but he did feel it. Athelstan smiled, closing his eyes as he moved to kiss her again.
Curling closer to him, she kissed him until she felt the backs of her legs against the bed. “When are your parents arriving? I want to meet them.”
“Probably not until Christmastime.” Athelstan sighed with relief. “My birthday is a few days after Christmas; they’ll likely want to celebrate both.” He still wasn’t sure what to do about all this with his parents. It set him on edge.
“I still do not know what I am going to get you.” Eli kissed his neck, smiling against his skin. “I hope you will give me suggestions.”
“Quite honestly, I need very little.” Athelstan sat on her bed, letting her sit on his lap for the first time, doing his best to focus only on her face. At least for now. “Perhaps donate to a charity in my name.”
“I can do that.” She bit her lower lip, feeling the blood she’d drank moving to her cheeks. “I like being close to you, Athelstan.” It wasn’t just the physical things, either - especially since they didn’t do much of that. She meant emotionally.
“I could say the same.” Athelstan said, looking her right in the eye. “I ... you’re a big part of my life, Eli.”
Eli stroked his cheeks, trying not to cry. “I am glad you allow me to be so. Do you think your family will hate me?”
“Hate, no. If anything they will find fault with me, getting involved with someone before marriage, but I don’t care.” Even as he said it, he felt a weight both lessen and re-settle on a different part of his chest. “I don’t,” Athelstan repeated. “My relationship with God has changed, as theirs has not.”
She smiled, stroking his cheek. “One’s relationship with God is personal,” she murmured. “Perhaps I should renew mine.”
“See, I accept that not everyone has a relationship with God. I don’t believe it makes anyone a bad person.” She was sitting on his lap a little more firmly now, and he had to work to focus. “If you want to, it’s entirely your decision. You just may be bored when I visit confession every week, if you don’t come along.” He kidded.
“I’d like to,” Eli said quietly. She was being serious; it was something she’d thought about for a long time.
Athelstan looked at her for a moment, still smiling. “Then when I go next, I will telephone. Would that suit?” He was rather pleased, though he didn’t think it was because of him.
“I’d like that very much.” She couldn’t help but feel the blood coursing through her body sitting on his lap this way, and she tried not to giggle.
“Good.” Athelstan saw her smile, and he tried to smile just as casually, but it was getting more difficult. Other parts of his anatomy were seeing fit to inject themselves into the conversation.
“Are you all right?” Eli cocked her head to the side in confusion.
“Yes, of course.” Athelstan tried to squirm out of it, hoping she didn’t notice his slight discomfort.
“I should get off of your lap,” Eli chuckled. The blood was back in her cheeks. Maybe eating before his arrival hadn’t been the best idea.
“No, it’s all right.” Athelstan wasn’t sure why it was all right, but it was. He was tired of feeling guilty for being in love. He kissed her again, as firmly as before.
That made Eli sigh, and she smiled as their lips met. Her arms wrapped even tighter around him, and she wished that nothing would end - that this moment would somehow stretch into the infinite.
Athelstan sighed back, something close to a whimper, helping her straddle his lap. His brain was becoming less and less able to drown out the signals of a few other parts of his body, and he sought to warn her. “Eli - ”
“Do you want to stop?” Eli leaned back, her hair loose, and she bit her lower lip. “I do not mind.”
“Not if you don’t wish it.” Athelstan looked at her, struck by her beauty. She looked free. He wanted to be free.
“I don’t. But I do want you to be happy.” She ran her fingers over his cheek, smiling to herself. “If it is not right for you, then it is not right for me.”
“I understand.” And he loved her for it. But he was tired, curse it all, of being afraid. Athelstan simply let himself fall backward, so she was lying on top of him on her bed.
Eli giggled as she fell forward, grinning and rolling so that she was on her side next to him. This way she could thread her fingers together with his. “You are impressive. I am so surprised that you are okay with this.”
“I’m tired of being held hostage,” Athelstan eventually said. “I believe that love is no sin, and if it is a sin, I will ask God for forgiveness.”
Instead of asking him if he was sure again, as she felt like she wanted to, Eli simply leaned forward and kissed him again. She could practically feel blood sliding through her veins, and she pulled him closer. “Have I mentioned I love you?” She was speaking as quietly as she dared.
“Indeed.” Athelstan felt almost giddy, having said that. “I love you, too.” And by everything, he meant it.
Her thin arms wrapped closer around him, and Eli kissed his neck lightly. It was gentle, her human teeth out and carefully grazing his skin. She wouldn’t ever bite him to where she drew blood.
He found that he liked it, though, and let out something like a whine. Athelstan’s eyes fluttered closed, and he couldn’t help his hips arching up against her body. Dear God, he hoped she had some kind of protection. If they were going to do this, he couldn’t stop to think.
His hips moving up against her made Eli gasp, and she moved against him as well. It helped her to be relaxed knowing that she couldn’t get pregnant, that she couldn’t get any odd illnesses. Not that Athelstan had any, but in case he stopped liking her so.
It was really getting hard to keep his trousers on now, and he said as much. “Need to ... adjust a bit.” Athelstan reached down between them, trying to get his zipper undone so he could breathe a little.
Eli couldn’t help but watch him move, biting her lower lip and reaching out to touch a sudden flash of stomach with one shaking hand.
Finally, his jeans were undone and he could breathe. Athelstan looked up at Eli, stunned by her blown lips and sunken eyes. “You’re beautiful,” he said, smiling nervously upward at her.
“I could say the same,” Eli murmured, lightly running her hand up under his shirt, letting it rest on his chest. “You’re very warm,” she whispered. Her eyes were closed, and she could feel the breaths she didn’t need to take coming more slowly.
“Am I?” Athelstan laughed softly. “I’m nervous, but not so much as to cease.” He did the same thing to her, hand on her smooth skin, sighing contentedly. “You aren’t cold,” he managed, fighting the urge to giggle. It would be ridiculous.
“I ate before you came,” she giggled nervously. “I didn’t want you to have to cuddle someone cold.” She was, as ever, apologetic about what she was.
“Well, you don’t have to worry.” She was rather nicely lukewarm, actually. It made him want to pull her closer. Athelstan kissed her again, even getting the nerve to reach a hand up under her loose-fitting shirt.
Purring a little, Eli bit her lip and grinned, reaching out to pull her shirt up and over her head. They’d done this once before, but never when Athelstan seemed so pleased by the prospect.
He was feeling nervy for some reason, like he could actually do this without embarrassing himself or cursing himself to an eternity in the pits. They were just two people who loved each other, after all. Athelstan helped her with her clothes as she saw fit to do the same to him, though her helping him with his jeans coming all the way off was very nearly terrifying.
Soon they were just in their undergarments, and Eli was grinning at him. “This is scarier than I thought it would be. Is that silly?” She just for some reason felt like she was going to hyperventilate or have a heart attack - two things she was pretty sure she couldn’t even do anymore.
“No.” It did him good to hear that, actually; Athelstan breathed out a laugh. “I’m a bit scared myself. But I do want it.”
She just wrapped her arms around him, holding him carefully. “I just want to be happy. With you.” Nosing gently against him, she kissed his collarbone, lightly letting her human teeth rest against him.
“Eli.” Athelstan managed, letting his mouth run. “Do you want ... should we ...” He couldn’t quite say it, even though he felt ready.
She nodded. “Yes.” It was just a quiet sound, just one syllable, but she knew it would make all of the difference for him. She wanted to, and she wanted to with him.
It did help. It got rid of some of the nerves. Athelstan smiled up at her, going for a kiss. He loved her. “You can’t ... we don’t need any. Protection. Do we?” He doubted she could even become pregnant, but it seemed rude and mean to ask.
Eli shook her head. “No. We do not need it.” Smiling, she reached behind herself to unhook her bra. “Unless you are as magic as I think you are.”
Athelstan just blushed at that. And blushed as hard as he could when he saw her disrobe completely. “Oh, Eli.” He reached down and got the rest of his clothes off - the pants were a bit difficult - but eventually he was just lying there, feeling silly and nervous and impatient all at once.
She had no idea what to do first. So instead, she leaned down to kiss him, just enjoying feeling his skin against hers. It seemed the best way to begin, and it felt comfortable. Right. This wasn’t sin, she couldn’t think it was.
Athelstan reached down between her legs, biting his lip as he slid his fingers there. He’d remembered that light pressure had seemed to work the best for Aidan, so he tried to apply the lesson here.
Eli gasped loudly, rocking against his hand and moving to reach down, gently running her fingers over his length. She wanted to make him happy too, and she watched his face, listened to his heartbeat, trying to figure out when he was happiest.
He couldn’t help but whimper softly, glad her father slept hard. This felt insane, delicious, exciting. He wanted to be inside her, to feel that connection.
And when they were done, Eli couldn’t help but grin down at Athelstan, curling close to him, her heart on his chest. His heart was beating very fast, and she sighed contentedly. “Thank you,” she murmured.
Athelstan was mostly embarrassed at that point; it had been perhaps three minutes before he’d been unable to cope any longer and cried out. “I’m sorry it was ... lackluster,” he told her, holding her up against him.
“Then you are wrong, I did not think it was lackluster at all. Our bodies were merely getting acquainted. We are still getting to know each other this way.” She kissed him gently, looking up into his eyes. “I was glad that we are here. I would not have changed a moment.”
“I love you.” Athelstan said with feeling. “And not just because of ... this.”
“I love you as well, Athelstan. I have for some time now,” Eli chuckled.
“I’m glad.” He rested a hand in her hair. “You’re one of the best things that ever happened to me.”
“I know how you feel.” Eli turned her head to kiss his chest, her eyes closing. “Exactly the same sentiment.”
He was content to fall asleep there, eyes closed as well. He could probably be fine with expiring in this way - even if Eli’s father came in and found them. There were worse ways to go.
