Izzy had happily agreed to help Magnus learn how to cook a meal when he had text her, especially as it was for her brother. Alec had been focused on job hunting and Izzy felt her brother deserved a nice treat and what could be nicer than being treated to a home cooked romantic meal.
And that was how she came to be standing on the doorstep, after ringing the bell, with two bags full of ingredients and a copy of the latest recipes Audrey had taught her. Izzy was looking forward to this, she was determined they would have fun as well as be productive.
So much had been going on with Alec lately that Magnus thought his boyfriend deserved something nice. He still felt bad for asking Alec to quit a job that he’d enjoyed, but they had worked that out and now Alec was looking for another job. Magnus really hoped that he found one soon. But until then, Magnus was determined to do whatever he could to cheer Alec up and assure him that he was in no way, shape or form going to be breaking up with him.
“So, what are you going to teach me to make?” Magnus had gone out and bought a rather flamboyant apron to wear for tonight’s cooking lesson that said, Kiss the Cook.
“Oh my god!” Izzy declared upon seeing the apron, “I absolutely love it and approve” she grinned at him, depositing the bags on the side. “Thai Green chicken curry” she informed him, “Alec will love it, I promise”
Magnus grinned at the compliment to his apron, looking forward to seeing what Alec would think of it when he eventually saw it. “So, are you going to be my taste tester and if you don’t keel over then I’ll know that I’ll be able to make it for Alexander and not risk killing him?” He asked as he started to unpack the bags and set everything out onto the island in the middle of the kitchen.
"That's the idea" Izzy said with a nod, "I'm hoping for no death if I'm honest but I'm willing to take one for the team if needs be" grinning she pulled out the recipe and told him what he'd need first.
Still grinning, Magnus did as instructed, “Did I tell you that I dreamt about you?” He wasn’t sure exactly where Izzy was in her dreams, but this was as good a time as any to find out. “You, Jace, Alexander and a Clary and Simon. You all came to the birthday party I threw for the Chairman.” Up until he’d dreamt about the group of them coming to his party he’d had no idea that they were all from the same dream world.
"Really? How wonderful. I hope I dream that soon. I can't wait to meet you there" she smiled, she had known Magnus was from there since Alec had mentioned a dream with him but she hadn't known she would get to meet him too. Now she was even more eager to dream more. "Are you a shadowhunter like us?" she asked.
Magnus shook his head, “No, Warlocks can’t be Shadowhunters. Something about the Runes.” He blinked his yellow cat eyes at her as he continued preparing the meal they were making, “What else have you dreamt of?” He’d never really asked Izzy about her dreams. Truthfully, he hadn’t even known Alec was dreaming until very recently. Alec had kept it to himself, mostly because of the one dream where he apparently broke up with Alec. Why he would do that, Magnus had no idea.
"Oh of course" Izzy nodded, she was so used to Magnus now that his eyes didn't really register as being different anymore. "Mostly kicking ass as a shadowhunter. I'm almost as good as Jace" she grinned, "and the whip I use there turned up on my bedside table. I'm pretty good with it too"
“Right, you had mentioned the whip before,” Magnus wondered if there was anything else he was going to get from his dreams aside from his eyes changing. “In the dreams I don’t appear to have anything of any real significance aside from Chairman Meow, but I already have him.” It was a little ironic that he’d named his cat the same thing in both the dreams and real life. “There was a necklace though. I had given it to my ex, to protect her.” He recalled the way the ruby had shown against Camille’s pale skin.
"Your eyes changed, maybe you'll get your other powers too" Izzy suggested, "it's not uncommon for things like powers and abilities to transfer over from what I can gather"
Magnus pretended to ponder that possibility for a moment when in actuality, he’d thought about it quite a lot lately. Based on the dreams, he wouldn’t mind if his other abilities manifested themselves, because they were pretty cool powers, if he did say so himself. The ability to redecorate with the snap of a finger was only one of the powers he was looking forward to, “And do you think you’ll be able to use the Runes at some point?” Another thing that Magnus now found ironic, since dreaming about Shadowhunters were Alec’s tattoos. They weren’t just intricate tattoos anymore, but the Runes that Alec’s dream counterpart had as well. He wondered what would happen as Alec had more dreams. If they would each begin to possess the powers they did in the dreams.
Izzy nodded, "I have my stele" she admitted, "I don't think I'd have gotten it if I wouldn't someday be able to use it. And..." she hesitated slightly before rolling up her sleeve to show a rune tattoo, "It appeared one morning" She hadn't told Alec or Jace yet. "So I think we will be as awesomely kick ass here as we are in the dreams" she grinned lightening the mood once more.
Magnus nodded, “Makes sense.” When Izzy pulled up her sleeve, he glanced over, his lips turning up into a grin, “Do you know which one that is?” He didn’t have a clue what each Rune was; he’d never spent enough time around Shadowhunters in his dreams to know the difference between each Rune.
“I think it’s strength” she replied, “Though I don’t have a clear image of all of them yet. I do write them down when I wake up” She had a notebook next to her bed for things she didn’t want to forget.
“That’s not a bad idea,” Magnus though appeared to have the same kind of memory that he did in the dreams, because he hadn’t seemed to forget anything he’d dreamt of so far and it was a lot of information so far. He was hundreds of years old in his dreams and had experienced quite a lot, “Looks like one of the tattoos your brother already has. It’s quite a coincidence that he got them way before any of this.” He supposed that in a way it was the same way he’d named his cat way before he’d started dreaming as well.
Generally Izzy remembered things too but she wanted to make absolutely sure she remembered them correctly when it came to things like the meaning of the runes. “I have one already but that I just copied when Alec got it - oh but don’t tell him. He doesn’t know I did it” Izzy loved her older brother a lot, idolized him even, so it wasn’t really a surprise that she had gotten a tattoo which was the same as his or that she’d followed him here.
Magnus smiled at that, “That’s actually really sweet. You should tell him,” He was curious to know which tattoo/rune she’d copied from Alec, but he thought that it was probably a personal thing and even Magnus knew when to keep his nose out of something unless the other person offered up the information first.
Izzy blushed a little, "You think so?" she asked, she didn't want him to think she was silly or tell her off for doing it secretly but maybe now with the dreams it was a good time.
Magnus nodded, “I do.” Especially with the way Alec had been feeling lately, Magnus thought that finding out about Izzy’s tattoo and the reason she’d gotten it would brighten his mood a little bit. The last thing Magnus expected was for Alec to get upset about it.
Izzy nodded, "Maybe I will then" she said with a smile of thanks before clapping her hands together. "Right, now back on track. Focus on the cooking" she grinned as she gave him the next instructions. She had a feeling she was going to enjoy getting to know Magnus through their cooking lessons.
