Now that Renly was not only engaged to Loras, but had dreamt about marrying Margaery, he felt that he and Margaery should meet to talk about the dreams. He also wanted to ask her to help him pick out a ring for Loras. He could have simply taken Loras out and had him pick out a ring, but he wanted to surprise him the same way he Loras had surprised him. Marg had been a big help when he’d bought the bracelet for Myrcella that he had no doubt she’d be a great help in picking out a ring for Loras.
He’d asked her to meet him at the mall and was currently waiting outside the main entrance, waiting for his future sister-in-law.
It had been a while ago that Margaery had the dream about her marriage to Renly and she had been waiting for him to have the dream. It was somewhat amusing to her, definitely not upsetting but she wasn’t sure how Renly would react. She knew her brother didn’t like it but it was a different world in the dreams and they had done what was needed.
Right now however she was just looking forward to spending time with Renly and getting to know him as her future brother-in-law. Arriving at the mall she spotted him and made her way over, “I hope you have not been waiting long” she smiled as she hugged him in greeting, “How are you?” she asked when she let go.
Renly smiled as he hugged her back. This was actually not as awkward as he’d thought. It really should have been a lot more awkward, considering he’d now technically seen her naked and not only that, but in the dreams, Margaery was younger than both him and Loras. He didn’t really understand how that was possible. “I’m good. You?
Margaery hadn’t really expected it to be awkward but then she wasn’t a shy girl, never had been. It was strange being the younger sibling in the dreams but Margaery felt like she possibly had an older and wiser soul so maybe it had something to do with that. She was definitely much more focused and politically savvy than Loras.
“I am well thank you” she smiled, “Very happy that you are making an honest man out of my brother” she added with a cheeky grin.
“Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I mean, he’s the one who asked me to marry him.” Renly smiled back as he turned towards the doors of the mall and held his arm out for her, “Shall we?” He had no doubt that whatever jewelry stores they went into, the sales associates would think they were together, but that was bound to happen anywhere they went together.
"You are making honest men out of each other then is perhaps how we should say" she replied with a nod as she took his arm and they entered the mall, "Either way I am happy you are to be my brother in law"
Renly smiled as they entered the mall, “And I’m happy you’re going to be my sister-in-law instead of my wife.” He glanced over at her knowingly, “That was rather awkward.” Renly was just glad that it wasn’t awkward for them to see one another after his dream where he’d married Margaery.
She laughed softly and smiled at him, “Ah yes, that was an ‘interesting’ dream, to say the least” she replied, “I too am glad not to be your wife” she grinned at him and nudged him with the arm that was in his.
“I understand why we had to marry in the dreams, but it was quite awkward considering how young you were.” Sure, Loras was younger in the dreams too, but seventeen was much different than fifteen. “I wonder why you’re younger than Loras in the dreams,” He’d heard other people talking on the net about their families in the dreams being different than in real life, so it was more than likely the same thing with Loras and Margaery.
“It is a different world and they do things differently, and it was not so uncommon to marry young in Europe years ago” Margaery said, she had a very matter of fact way of looking at things. “In the dreams I am young but not naive. My grandmother had taught me many things including political understanding while Loras was off training and falling for you” she shot him a quick grin, “Maybe here my age matches my intelligence level more closely” she suggested, “Older or younger I am just glad Loras remains my brother”
Renly nodded. It all made sense. “I’m also glad that Loras is still your brother.” He smirked as they approached a jewelry store, “I think that part that shocked me the most, in the dream, was that you knew. I don’t know how I hadn’t known that you were aware of our relationship, but I guess a lot more people than we thought knew about it. It really was the worst kept secret in King’s Landing despite how much we had tried to keep it secret.” Renly was just glad that they didn’t need to hide here.
“There is not much Loras can hide from me” Margaery replied, “And seeing you together was very telling. Your whole expression softens when you see him, it was heartwarming to see, as it is now” she added squeezing his arm and smiling.
Renly couldn’t help but return the smile, “We probably should have worked on that. I’m sure that the only thing that saved me was the fact that I was the brother of the King.” At least until Robert had died. It was probably for the best that he an Loras had fled King’s Landing after that. He was still curious what had happened there after they’d left as well as what happened after he died, but he wasn’t quite there yet, so he’d inquire about that once he got there.
Reaching the jewelry store, Renly gestured towards the entrance, “Care to help me pick out a ring for your brother?”
"I'd have made sure nobody doubted you" Margaery said softly, "I'd have protected you both" And she would have, no matter the cost.
"I'd love to" she smiled at him, glad not for the first time that they were in this world and her brother and Renly were free to show their love and dedication to each other.
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to find one as nice as the one Loras got me, but we’ll try.” Renly’s gaze dropped down to the ring on his left hand then back up to Margaery as they went into the store, “Planning this wedding is going to be interesting. Not only do I have to tell Robert and Stannis soon, but I’ll have to figure out exactly what to do about my brother and my nephew.” It didn’t occur to Renly that he hadn’t actually told Margaery about Gendry.
"We will find something perfect I'm sure" Margaery told him, smiling as his gaze dropped to his own ring. "Planning will be the fun part, you know I will help if you wish" she added before frowning, "I thought your nephew's and niece were here with their mother are they not? Surely your brother has no issue with the children?"
It wasn’t until Margaery posed the question that Renly realized what he’d said and he paused for a moment, “Not Cersei’s children. Robert has a son that he doesn’t exactly know about,” Renly wouldn’t be surprised if Robert had other children, but this was about Gendry right now. “His name is Gendry. You may have seen him on Valarnet. He’s about a year younger than I am.” Renly glanced into a display case then back to Margaery, “I ran into him a few months ago and couldn’t get over the resemblance he has to both Robert and myself. Everyone says that I look exactly like Robert when he was younger. We did a test and confirmed it. I haven’t told Robert yet. It’s not something to tell over the phone.”
"Oh my goodness" Margaery said, "how incredible. It was certainly fortuitous that you found him, how does he feel about it all? Does he too share the dreams of Westeros?"
Renly thought about that question for a moment before answering, “He wasn’t too sure about the whole thing at first. He’s come around over the last couple of months, but I can tell he’s still not so sure what to make of the whole thing. I do think he likes knowing that he has some family out here now. He’s from Scotland and his adoptive parents are still out there.” He didn’t go into detail about what had happened to Gendry’s mother though. “And he does. He was in King’s Landing. Here he actually dates Arya Stark. Are you familiar with the Starks?”
Margaery nodded, "Family is important and he is lucky to have such a wonderful uncle. It is good that you are looking out for him" she told him, "I know of them of course. I tried to assist Sansa Stark but things didn't work out as we had liked. I have not met Arya"
“I was never very close to my father or brothers, so finding Gendry has been a good thing.” Renly had often wondered if things would have been different if his mother hadn’t died when he was little. Then again, if things had been different than there were so many people that Renly wouldn’t know now; including Loras. “I’ve known of the Starks for a long time. My brother has been friends with Eddard Stark for a long time.”
“Ah, well here I know them not at all, I’m afraid” Margaery replied, “Though I do see the children post on the net quite often. I’ve had little cause to interact with them. I imagine you would become more closely acquainted if Gendry chooses to reveal himself to your brother considering he is dating Arya”
Renly nodded, “It’s only a matter of time before we have to tell Robert. I just don’t want to do it over the phone. I’ve been thinking of taking a trip out there anyway to tell him and Stannis about my engagement, so perhaps then.” If Renly planned a trip to England, he would certainly be taking Loras with him this time.
Margaery nodded, “News like that would be much better face to face I think” she said, “I am sure your brother would appreciate it”
Renly nodded once again, “Now, I think we should stop talking about my family and find the perfect ring for your brother.” He grinned as he said it, hoping that they could find a ring that would suit Loras.
