Who: Link and Zelda When: The morning of her birthday! (Last Weekend) Where: Link’s place What: Pillow Talk Rating/Warning: G. This is about as fluffy as it gets, folks. Status: Complete
Zelda rolled over in the bed. She was still half asleep, but the sunshine coming through the window had made her stir. It was early, really early, but the sun was rising. The smell of Link was all around her--on the sheets, the blankets, and the body in the bed next to her. Wasn’t a surprise. The body next to her belonged to her boyfriend, Link, and he smelled wonderful. It was an earthy smell, the smell of farm and spice and man. Zelda lifted her arm and wrapped it around him, then cuddled closer. It’d been a good dream. She didn’t want to get up.
He’d been happily asleep, but he had no regrets being roused. He drifted back into the waking world with a smile. Whereas his own smell was nothing but white noise, Zelda’s perfume and shampoo were a heady reminder of the night before, and hopefully of the days ahead. “Morning,” he murmured, wrapping an arm around her.
“Mmmph,” Zelda said, shaking her head a little. She cuddled even closer against him, burying her face into his chest. “...it’s too early to be morning,” she mumbled, her voice muted a bit by her lips against his skin. She wasn’t sure how anything in the world could feel this perfect. Their arms around each other, legs entwined. It was as if she was made to be in this space, made to be wrapped around him just like this.
"We stayed up too late," Link said, cracking a grin. His eyes remained shut, though, as if he was still enjoying a nice dream. In a way, he was, as he called to mind some of the activities that had kept them up.
That actually brought a chuckle out of the tired girl. She let her fingertips trail back and forth along his skin, reliving the same memories from the night before. “You kept me up late.” She accused, playfully. Though, the truth of the matter was that they both wanted to stay up late.
There was nothing to worry about, no pressing matters on the farm that required him to rise with the sun. The day was his. Well, the day was hers, really--it was Zelda’s birthday after all. “Happy Birthday…” he sighed, finally opening his eyes.
Zelda have a sleepy yet still excited squeal. "It's my birthday!" She said, opening her eyes to look into his. "Best. Birthday. Morning. Ever." And she stole a kiss, completely ignoring the idea she might have morning breath.
“Oh good,” Link said with a laugh. “So I don’t have to get you another gift.”
Zelda laughed. “You didn’t get me a gift?” She asked in that same sleepy but excited tone. Her eyes sparkled as they looked into his. “Really? I’m a little surprised by that, actually.” She teased. Zelda didn’t need anything. But she wasn’t exactly materialistic, either. She honestly hadn’t thought about Link getting her anything for her birthday. He’d already given her so much.
Of course he’d gotten her a gift, but it was fun to play dumb. He overdid the eye gestures so it was clear he was only joking. “Oh, like there’s anything I can give you that you don’t already have.”
She didn’t really need one. But she wouldn’t say no. Getting gifts was one of the best parts of having a birthday, obviously. Giving was one of the best parts of Christmas. Anyway, she broke into a grin at the sight of his eyes. “...That’s no excuse.” She teased, grinning even more brightly. “Birthdays are a time for presents! And pampering. I hope I’m getting pampered today. Where’s my breakfast in bed?”
Link chuckled, rolling onto his back. He smiled and stared up at the ceiling, while a warm feeling of happiness washed over him. He was waking up now… but perhaps he was also partially asleep. “I wish every morning was like this,” he said, very unguarded, without a hint of shyness. It wasn’t like him to be so blunt, but it was like her momentarily couldn’t help himself.
Zelda could hear the seriousness in his voice, and she appreciated that he felt so comfortable around her. She cuddled in against his side, wrapping her arm around his waist. “I dunno. Wouldn’t it get old if every morning was my birthday?” She asked, teasing gently.
He sighed, still smiling. “No, I mean… like, just being together.” Link turned sideways to look at her straight on. “You know…”
“I know?” She said, grinning. Zelda was looking straight into his eyes now, and her cheeks were going slightly pink. “I like being together, too.”
Link turned back on his side. He was feeling a little more shy now, because he’d had more time to think about what he was saying; but he knew he’d opened a door. And the way Zelda was looking at him, it seemed safe to walk a little further inside. “Do you think about the future? What it might be like, if we were in the same place? The same house?”
“I dunno.” Zelda said, shrugging her shoulders. She was watching his profile now, her body still resting snugly against his. “It’d be pretty amazing to get to see you every day,” she added, after a moment of thought. “I mean, I hate that when I’m working and you’re working we only get to see each other once a week at best.”
“I think about it. A lot. Lately.” His heart picked up some speed. It was a pretty serious conversation for this early in the morning. He paused with a little sigh, almost like he needed to catch his breath. “I dunno. I went to visit Navi and the baby. It got me thinking…”
Zelda perked up at the mention of Navi and the baby. It took her longer than it should have to realize what that got him thinking about, considering what they’d just been talking about moments before. When it dawned on her what he was getting at, her grin faded just a little. This was a pretty serious conversation, wasn’t it?
“Got you thinking about what?” She asked, lifting her fist to prop her head up, her elbow on the pillow.
Link copied her position, the covers dropping down to his waist. His mouth took a few moments to find the words. “I lost my family a long time ago. And since you’ve been here, it’s stopped feeling like that. ...And eventually… maybe… one day… you and I might… have a family. A-uh ah, a baby.”
When he mentioned losing his family, Zelda reached forward and rested her hand against his chest in a sign of support. She couldn't imagine losing her own family, even though they weren't as close as they used to be. But then he went on, and she went really pink. "You want to have a baby with me?" She asked, grinning shyly.
Link was red, too. “...Not, like, right away. But maybe. Someday.”
“Someday.” Zelda leaned forward and tapped her lips against his. “You’ll have to ask me to marry you first,” she said, only half playing. Honestly, if he’d asked her right then and there in that moment, she would have said yes.
The fact that she wasn’t turning white and hopping out of bed made Link feel a little more brave. Not brave enough to propose right there, but relaxed enough to continue. “I could see that happening,” he said with a grin, his lips still warm from her kiss.
Zelda’s grin spread. Actually, the ideas running through her head were so good, she burst into giggles. The arm under her head flattened, and she buried her face into the pillow, giggling. “Oh, my God.” She spoke, turning to lean further against him, cuddling into his chest.
He curved his free arm around her, his hand resting on the nape of her neck so that his thumb just brushed Zelda’s hairline. He liked her giggly reaction and he playfully rocked her. “Can I say that as a maybe?” he asked.
“You can absolutely take that as a maybe.” Zelda laughed, straight into the pillow. She felt like she might cry, actually. It was so perfect. Everything about Link was absolutely perfect. She’d never felt so complete as when she was with him, both in this world and the Dream world. Finally she rolled back onto her side and looked up at him. “...I do want to marry you some day.”
Link didn’t feel perfect of course. He felt awkward and shy, as per usual. But when he was around Zelda, it seemed okay to be awkward and shy; she didn’t mind or call him out on it. But this moment was a perfect moment. Too perfect for him to say anything else on the subject. He didn’t need to. Instead, he just kissed the back of Zelda’s neck.
