Who: Harry Dresden and Wall-E When: End of September Where: Harry’s Office What: Meeting to find Wally’s brothers and sisters Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete!
Harry was set up in his office as usual, waiting for his client to show. Jennifer was out filing some briefs and Harry had everything set up and ready to go. He was definitely getting used to this whole being a P.I. and lawyer thing and having an assistant thing here in the OC. It was different from back in Chicago and he was adapting, that he knew. He smiled as he heard the coffee pot sizzle, and nodded. All was ready.
Wally had the names of all of his siblings, the court paperwork, whatever he could get his hands on. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a whole lot to go on. He hadn’t had access to it all in a decade and a half, and going back now was a bit tricky. But he was trying. Perhaps that’s why he was reaching out for help. Johnny and Wally were ready to find more of their siblings. Now was the time.
He knocked on the office door, and waited patiently to be admitted.
“Wally?” Harry rose and opened the door, then smiled, stepping aside. “Come in, please. Sit. Welcome to my humble office.” it was a nice little place with a solid desk, a chair to one side and three to the other. The desk sported an old fashioned phone, and papers, with a file cabinet to one side and an old fashioned ice chest to the other.
Wally gave something of a smile. He held his hand out to shake. “Harry?” He asked, then let the other man usher him into the office. It reminded him of those old film noir movies about PIs, and that brought a smirk to his face as he sat down. “I have paperwork,” he said. He set a manila envelope on the desk. “The names are all in there.” He had a couple of copies back at home, too.
Harry shook the man’s hand and smiled. “That’s me. Come in, please, Wally. Sir.” He nodded.
“How long has it been since you saw them?” He took the envelope and started leafing through it.
“No ‘Sir’,” Wally said, shaking his head a little. That made him feel old. “Just Wally’s fine.” He sat down in the chair and thought about it. “Most of them, fifteen years.” He said after a moment’s thought. “My parents were arrested and charged with polygamy. My brothers, sisters and I were split apart and put into foster care.” Gosh, that was a lot of words. He was nearly winded.
“Then just call me Harry, please.” He took notes, listening as the other talked. Harry nodded. He skimmed the paperwork seeing what was there and nodded. “You did a good job putting together this information. Did you think what you wanted to do when you found them? Do you want to reunite, or just know they are okay?”
He held up a hand. “Normally, I wouldn’t ask, but sometimes, the sources I use can be picky about why they are helping.”
“I…” Wally hadn’t really thought about that. Why did he want to find them? To know they were okay? To reunite? It’d been wonderful to get back together with his brother Johnny, but would the rest be as wonderful? “I don’t know.” He said, quite honestly.
“That’s okay. I’ll still find them, that won’t change, but it might be something for you to think about, between now and then. “ Harry smiled a little.
