I wish I was there for you guys more.
Who: Kitty and Neena
What: Catching up
When: Recently
Where: Summers Residence
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13 for discussing, uh..man parts
Neena hated being a shut in. She missed socializing at the bar a lot, and she missed doing crazy things. She even missed having the energy to do crazy things.
Going to see Kitty at Scott’s house killed a few birds with one stone. She could talk to Kitty, then Nate, then see if Scott had time too. She felt like an ass for losing touch with everyone, but she was also a little hurt that none of them had contacted her, either.
She decided not to worry about all that as she knocked on Scott and Emma’s door. She wasn’t here to bitch, she was here to be social.
Kitty had been a little pre-occupied, so reaching out to people had been one of the things that had been lower on her list of things to do. She opened the door and grinned when she saw Neena. “Hey. How are you? Come in. I’m the only one home right now.”
“Man, my timing is shit.” Neena joked as she made her way inside. “How’ve you been?”
“Nah you’re just lucky. Because I’m awesome. We should go out somewhere. No need to stay in. Staying in is bad juju.” Kitty made her way to the kitchen anyway. “Water?”
“I’m not really up for a lot of running around.” Neena said, rubbing the back of her neck. “But I’ll take that water. We could sit outside or something if you want.”
“Okay. The patio is much bigger than it was at my place.” She pulled some water out for herself and headed through the house. The twins’ cats padded after them before they got bored.
Neena bent down to pet one of the cats. “So what’s it like living with the Summerses? I bet Emma’s a real pain in the ass about stuff being in order.”
“Yeah. I kind of keep moving things an inch or two off kilter,” she explained, grinning. “I learned that one from Logan.”
Neena snorted. “Remind me not to let you sleepover.” She pulled a cat into her arms and took a seat. Dante was going to go crazy when she got home. “How’re the kids?”
“Adjusting. They took it all better than I expected, which I’m not sure I like. But they were really scared.” She scuffed her toe on the ground. “I asked them if they wanted to stay with my dad for awhile. So they’d have the option, and the choice.”
“They decide to stay here or are they still thinking?” Neena sipped her water, scratching the cat’s ears with her other hand.
“They’re still thinking.” It hurt that they were thinking about it. But she couldn’t blame them. “I actually think they’ll stay, but I want them to come to that decision themselves.”
Neena winced. “That’s rough. I’m afraid Chris will decide to stay in the future when he finds out Nate and I aren’t married anymore.” If they ever even found him again.
“I’m sorry. I hope he comes back with you. Family should be together.” Kitty rubbed at her arm, reminded of Rachel. So many pieces of her life were still missing, and she didn’t think they’d come back together. She made a mental note to talk to her therapist about that too.
“I won’t force him to do something he doesn’t want. He’s too much like us, it wouldn’t go over well.” She wasn’t sure if she should be proud or happy about that. “But fuck, I didn’t come here to complain about my stupid shit.”
“What did you come over for?” Kitty sat on a rocking bench and crossed her legs.
“I’m bored. I can’t do anything but the boring stuff at work, Thomas is working, I can’t go for a run or anything like that, so I figured I’d harass you or Nate or Scott.” She shrugged. “Beside, you’ve been pretty quiet and you posted about not having a house so I figured something was up.”
“Lorna’s evil twin trashed the place, so I’m taking the opportunity to leave the memories there,” she admitted, opening her water bottle. Kitty looked at Neena through her bangs.
“Well, she was going to lose her shit eventually.” Neena pointed out. “I don’t blame you for that. You know what kind of place you want to get?”
“I don’t know. I need three bed rooms. I want a fourth for..expandability. It’s stupid to not think ahead.” She didn’t think it would ever actually matter, at this rate. But she could look ahead.
“Sure. I’m regretting getting a small place now.” Even if she would only ever have one child. “It’ll be a tight squeeze if Chris does come home with us. You’re looking at houses, then?”
“Yep. I liked having a house. Just … need a different house. Xi’an still haunts that one.”
“Yeah.” Neena was quiet for a minute. “You’ve been through a lot of shit this year. Even if you don’t feel like it now you should be proud of yourself. You’re not half as crazy as you could be.”
“I’m only half as crazy as I should be,” Kitty replied. She smiled tiredly.
Neena reached over and squeezed Kitty’s shoulder. “You’re with good people, and you’ve got a lot of friends. We’re all here for you, and always will be.”
“I appreciate that so much. I wish I was there for you guys more. Sometimes I get too wrapped up in my own shit. “ She put her hand over Neena’s and squeezed.
“Eh, you’re there when it matters, and we could all stand to ask for help a little more often.” Not that she was going to unload her problems or anything at the moment.
“We’re all really the worse when it come to that,” Kitty replied, laughing. “I’m actually going to seek help. If it works out, want me to refer you?”
“Ugh, the last thing I need is to start talking about the bullshit in my life. If I start I’ll never stop.” She said it lightly, so Kitty wouldn’t want to pursue the topic.
“I’ll refer you anyway but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Sometimes just knowing the option was there helped. “We all need to do something. Fun.”
“I’ve got that oil wrestling team.” Neena’s voice became sing-song. “It’ll be fun, you know you wanna join.”
Kitty grinned, and looked at her coily. “You know I want to join?”
“Oh yeah.” Neena said with a smirk. “Because it’s the perfect outlet for your aggression, and it goes to charity so you can feel good about it.”
“I’d rather do fight club for aggression. Wrestling with half naked girls is just fun.” She winked.
Neena snorted. “Well, I’ve already got one thoroughly closeted bartender doing it, you might as well get your kicks too.”
“Thoroughly closeted bartender? Do I need to get out my recruiter badge?” Kitty asked.
Neena snorted. “What you do with your personal life is officially not my problem. I don’t hook my coworkers up.”
“I’m kidding! Well, I could probably get her out of the closet, but I can’t mess around. She hot? Or is it a he?” Not that Kitty really cared either way.
“She’s. . . fuck, I dunno. She works for me.” Neena made a face. “She’s a know it all. Kind of a pain in the ass, honestly. Probably she’ll loosen up once she gets a good fuck or two.”
Kitty snerked. “That’s usually how it works. I’m pretty sure you loosened up after you had a good fuck or two.” She totally had a troll smile on.
Neena snorted. “So you’ve seen Milo naked, huh? Honestly the second before I had sex the first time was the scariest moment of my life.”
Kitty tilted her head. “Wasn’t scared, either awake or asleep. Cop car here, the Midnight Runner there. Uh. Excalibur’s blackbird.” She got her cherry popped at mach 4.
“Oh shit, Let’s see in the dreams it was in Madripoor.” She thought about that for a second, then shrugged. “Nothing to write home about, it was just what I had to do. I’m surprised Milo didn’t spoil me for all other men here. Guess I should be relieved Nate and I weren’t together too long when he was all grown up.”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m glad Piotr wasn’t my first. There’s big, then there’s too big, and that was Piotr.”
“So I hear, but the threshold for too big is higher for everyone.” Neena said with a snort.
“Seriously, it was like being fisted every time,” Kitty assured her. She kept a straight face for three seconds then started giggling. She calmed herself. “Wisdom was a lot better in the sack. I miss it sometimes, but I think I’m comfortable in a girl-phase right now.”
Neena laughed as well. “Guess it’s a good thing you weren’t interested in Nate. Thomas is a damn good lover, actually. He’s got this magic thing he can do now. It’s like. . . a maximized induce orgasm spell.” She snickered at the nerd terminology. Harry was rubbing off on her. “I wouldn’t peg Wisdom as being awesome in bed, actually. He seems like he’s secretly a crier.”
Kitty laughed. “God no. His hands are warmer, right? So it’s like...extra good on your skin and muscles, and he was really attentive. And he had a lot of stamina, which you need to keep up with me.”
“Uh huh.” Neena said with a laugh. “I can’t see how, he smokes like he’ll never get lung cancer, that shit’s bad for your stamina.”
“Metabolism. He soaks up so much sun that it turns his body into a little furnace. It’s how he can survive drinking so much.” Kitty shrugged. “I’m sure he didn’t consider the powers a gift that way for a long time.” Or at all. But he seemed a lot happier in this world so she hoped he still was.
“Oh, that makes sense. I’ve always wondered if it works the same way for Alex and Scott. The only time I banged either of them I was too drunk to remember much.” She kind of regretted not pouncing on Alex when they’d first met. He was a fine piece of ass.
Kitty wrinkled her nose, and decided that she and Neena had completely different taste in men. She liked her men a little dorkier, and less … sticks in the ass. Really, all the Summers men were sticks in the ass, in one way or another. “There are some people I should have shagged when I had the chance, but I think I’m functionally incapable of casual sex.”
“I thought I was too, and I guess I am, even if it worked out that way a couple times. I slept with one guy once when I thought I’d be dating him but then I had the dreams and that wasn’t going to work out. I meant to fuck someone else casually and wound up getting too attached, and then the second time I tried that got me here. Hell, even when we were time traveling I only managed it with Scott because we were both unreasonably drunk at the time.”
“It kinda sucks.” Kitty stuffed a hand on her pocket. “It would be nice to let loose with someone without your heart slapping you in the face.”
“I let loose when I was widowed. You should see my collection of sex stuff.” Neena said with a laugh. “Look, you just lost your wife what, six months ago? Then you had this other lady who was probably nice enough but she tortured you while possessed and then bailed. I think there’s parts of you that need sex, but I think most of what you need is to have people there for you, people that love you. That’s why you can’t do casual sex. I mean, you’re legitimately horny, but that’s not what’s driving you to seek out sex and it gives you kind of a mental excuse to get way too involved too fast.” Neena sipped her water. “I’ve been there a couple times, I know that feel.”
“You should be a psychiatrist,” Kitty remarked, playing with her water bottle. It was true. Orgasms aside, the best part of sex was the intimacy.
“Nah, I just know the drill. I’ve lost two husbands, after all. I latched on to Logan like he was the last lifeboat leaving the Titanic. Now I realize that we’re good friends but would have made shitty lovers long term. The problem is that need for intimacy doesn’t care about the future. It’s only concerned with now, which can lead to problems, like dating a woman who’s going to freak out at the first sign of trouble.”
Kitty didn’t think that Rikku would freak out at trouble, but she also thought the girl might get ground into the dirt in the process. She didn’t know if she’d spring back. She thought she might, but she didn’t know. “Yeah. I made some mistakes.”
“That’s fine. We all do.” Neena shrugged. “Just part of life.” She finished her bottle of water. “So you’re going to do the oil fighting thing, right?”
“Oh yeah. I’m totally in with that.” She held out her fist for fist bumps. “You don’t even need to ask twice.”
Neena bumped her, grinning widely. “Good. I’m looking forward to it.”
