It hadn’t taken long to pack. Just five suitcases and a crate. Cersei liked to travel light. She then spent the rest of the afternoon baking something for Myrcella. To help soften the blow. She leaned against the table and looked at the cake she’d made, and closed her eyes.
That was how Myrcella found her mum when she entered the kitchen, "Mum, are you alright?" she asked concern clear on her face.
Cersei’s eyes snapped open. “Oh, I’m fine. I’m finishing this up. It was going to be a surprise for you. I have some … news.”
"Should I be worried?" Myrcella asked, "News that requires a cake can't be good"
She lowered her head for a moment, playing with her fingers lightly before she lifted it again. “You know how I’m going to London to visit your father? And you know how things have been...strained between us?” She didn’t assume that Myrcella was entirely unobservant.
Myrcella nodded, "I know" she was more observant than most people gave her credit for. "You've been happier here" she added.
“I know.” She pushed hair out of her face and gave her daughter a tight smile. “We’ve decided to try to work things out. One more chance.” By ‘we’ she meant ‘my father’.
"Oh" Myrcella nodded slowly, she got the impression her mother wasn't pleased about this plan but knew it wouldn't help to point that out right now. "So we all have to go back to England?"
“No. Not if you don’t wish to.” She came over to her daughter, stroking back her hair and then putting an arm around her. “I can make arrangements for you to stay here, finish out your schooling at least. I think…” She sighed softly. “I think I want you to make your own choices, and it’s getting harder for me to let you do that.” She didn’t want Myrcella to end up hating her.
"I'd like to stay" she said, wrapping her own arms around her mum. "Finishing school with my new friends would be nice and I do like it here but I'd miss you"
“I’d miss you too, dearest.” She hugged Myrcella against her and closed her eyes. Being separate from her children would be incalculably painful for her. “But if you want to stay, you can stay. I’ll make those arrangements.”
Myrcella nodded still holding onto Cersei tightly, "Thank you mum. I love you" she said softly, "I can come visit right? And I can call you everyday?" She would miss her mum terribly but this was an opportunity to find out who she was on her own and that was exciting.
“I love you too. I’d expect nothing less. We can chat every day, phone, or over video.” She pressed her forehead against her daughter’s, almost clinging.
The clinging was kind of nice, Myrcella was used to being able to go to her mum for a hug or just to talk whenever she wanted to and it would be difficult to adjust to that change. "It'll be okay" she said, "Time will go quick especially since you have Joff and Tommen to sort out" she smiled softly.
“I look forward to it,” she replied, with a sort of droll expression meant to make Myrcella smile. “I’ll be outnumbered again.”
Myrcella did smile, "You'll be fine mum" she assured her, "Just remember you're the boss" she grinned.
“Always. But while you’re here, you’ll be the boss. And my little princess.”
"Princess Boss" Myrcella said with a nod, "I think I can handle that"
