Elphaba pulled up in front of Glinda’s lavish house and turned off her engine. Grabbing her bag, she removed her keys and hurried to Glinda’s front door, pressing the doorbell. She must have looked a state, her shirt was untucked, collar askew, hair falling from her updo and remnants of tears on her cheeks.
Glinda had been looking over some new designs she’d been sent by Portia when the doorbell went, she stood and moved to the door. Opening it her mouth fell open as she took in the state of Elphaba, “Oh my god, what on earth has happened Elphie?” she asked in concern.
“Lúthien…” Elphaba shook her head as she spoke. “She’s acting crazy, I don’t know,” she held up her hands and looked skywards as she felt more tears in her eyes.
“Come in” Glinda said, ushering her in and then wrapping her arm around Elphaba’s shoulders once the door was closed. “Oh dear, it sounds like she might be suffering from this latest crazy the OC has decided to let loose upon us”
“‘Latest crazy’?” Elphaba repeated as she let herself be led into the house. “What do you mean?” She asked curiously, giving a little sniffle.
Glinda sat Elphaba down on the couch before she replied, “Have you not seen the net? People gaining powers, losing powers, dogs talking, all sorts of things”
“I very rarely look at that thing,” Elphaba told her dismissively. “Dogs talking? That’s precisely why I don’t go on that thing,” she said. “Any talk of people...losing their minds or...having psychotic breaks?”
“You should, it’s very informative and a nice way to meet people” Glinda told her, “Actually now that you mention it I’m sure somebody mentioned some kind of split personality thing, I wonder if that could be what’s happened to Luthien...”
"Have they said whether it can be fixed?" Elphaba asked almost desperately. "Because the woman I went home to tonight was not my fianceé," she told her, sitting back against the couch heavily.
Glinda shook her head sadly, “Nothing about that yet” she said, “I’m sorry Elphie. Can I do or get you anything?”
Elphaba sighed worriedly. "Could I stay here tonight?" Elphaba asked quietly. "I can't go back while she's so...weird," she admitted.
“Of course you can stay here” Glinda told her, hugging her friend, “I wouldn’t let you go back while she’s behaving strangely. You’re always more than welcome here Elphie”
"Thanks Glinda," Elphaba sighed, putting a hand on the arm embracing her round her front. "I just don't know...she's never been so...malicious before," Elphaba said, thinking of the red hand marks that must have been getting slowly more visible around her throat.
“It must be something to do with what’s going on around here” Glinda nodded decisively, “Luthien is a lovely person, she’d never normally hurt you” She’d noticed the marks when she took in Elphie’s appearance.
Elphaba glanced at Glinda, asking about the marks nervously, "How bad are they?"
“Well they are obvious” Glinda replied, “But nothing a little make-up cannot hide. I’ve covered up worse, don’t worry we’ll make sure they don’t show”
Elphaba sighed heavily, dropping her head against the back of the sofa again and covering her face with her hands. She looked around the room after a minute and spotted the drawings on the table. "Did I interrupt you?"
“Not at all” Glinda said, “I was just looking at some designs Portia wants thoughts on. I was going to bring them by your office tomorrow” she explained.
"Ok," Elphaba nodded. "But it's ok if you want some privacy, I can go get a hotel room if that's better for you?" she asked, wanting Glinda to know she didn't have to put up with her if she didn't want to.
Glinda gave Elphaba a look, “What is better for me is having you here and knowing you are okay. Honestly Elphie, it’s not like you are a bother in any way”
Elphaba smiled at Glinda thankfully. The adrenaline of the evening seemed to be wearing off as she started feeling more tired as she sat on Glinda’s couch. “Thank you Glinda,” she told her genuinely.
“You’re welcome of course” Glinda replied, seeing the tiredness appear on Elphaba’s face, “Would you like a drink or anything?” she offered, deciding she would show her friend to the spare room so she could rest if she wanted.
“I’d love a stiff drink of...anything really,” Elphaba told her with a little laugh.
Nodding Glinda stood, "I will see what I can do" she said smiling.
"Thank you," Elphaba sighed and moved to follow Glinda. "Can I help with anything?"
“Oh no, I can manage don’t worry” Glinda assured her friend, “Do you want to rest or watch a movie or something else?” she asked, letting Elphie control what they did.
"We could watch a movie, umm...I don't really have time to watch them," Elphaba admitted with a tired shrug. "So it'll have to be your pick," she told Glinda. "Nothing too...rom com-y though," she requested quietly. She didn't think she could take watching other people being all happy as Larry right now.
"No Rom com I promise" she said, wrapping an arm around her friends shoulders she squeezed a little, "Everything will be fine Elphie, you'll see. Now lets get drinks and watch something to take your mind off it"
Elphaba smiled at that, she hadn't counted on Glinda becoming such a valuable friend when they had first met. Now, with her sister gone again and her lover...not being her lover, Glinda was a shining star to help her through.
