Mitchell wasn’t sure what to think about his latest dreams. Becoming the new King of the Bristol branch of vampires made sense, because he had been made by Herrick and had the most authority despite the fact that he had no idea what he was doing. It was meeting Lucy and the feelings he had for her that he was confused about, because of his feelings for Annie in the waking world. It was clear that dream Mitchell cared about Lucy to the point where he might have been falling in love with her. It was really confusing and Mitchell wasn’t entirely sure who he could talk to. He could ask Nina what she felt about George in the real world as a result of the dreams, but he wasn’t sure if they was too intrusive.
How was it that the dreams had been almost easier to deal with then they were constantly being harassed by Herrick and he’d been killing people?
Meanwhile she was having her own dreams about some guy named Saul. She’d been going to see him in his bar that was down the road from their house. He could see her which was really the important thing. After getting her confidence back from Owen, Annie could be seen. And now she was dating some guy and being really into him. She even worked down at the bar. The whole thing was really confusing. Saul wasn’t real. He was just someone in the dream. Right?
Coming down the steps from her room, she went to go get a drink and then sat down on the couch. Maybe she could watch Clue. “Hey,” she called as she heard more steps behind her.
Mitchell had been coming out of the kitchen just as Annie entered the living room and while he could have gone into another room, because there were plenty of rooms in the house if one wanted to avoid someone else, Mitchell followed her into the living room and sat down at the end opposite her, “Hey. What’re you up to?”
She certainly wasn’t avoiding him. The dreams were a little weird, but she could tell the difference between reality and the dreams. Annie was just glad to be there with Mitchell and be alive. Even if George wasn’t there with them. She really wished he was. “Not much. Just going to watch a movie or something. Kinda bored. I.. had a dream.” Since his dreams were nearly the same as hers, she wondered if he’d had one too. “You?”
“Was trying to work on a song, but I’ve got some stuff on my mind,” He ran a hand through his hair before turning his head towards her, brow quirking slightly as she mentioned having had a dream, “What about?” Ever since she’d flickered, he’d been worried about what more dreams would do to her.
Annie changed the channel on the television and then gave up and turned to look at him. “Uh.. I’m going to work in a pub? Like people can see me. I think that thing with Owen made me.. visible or something.” She shrugged a little. “But I wanted a job, so I got one. And now there’s a guy.. I dunno. It’s okay. I think the owner of the pub has a .. thing for me, but I seem to be oblivious.”
Okay, so Mitchell had known about all of that; or at least he recalled it vaguely. There was a lot that had happened while he’d been busy with the Bristol branch of vampires that he’d later heard about from George, but he had known about Annie’s job, “Did he never wonder why you wore the same thing everyday?” Mitchell smirked, glancing quickly over the outfit Annie was wearing that day, happy that she wasn’t stuck in the same thing day after day.
Come to think of it, Annie hadn’t seen much of Mitchell in the dream that she’d had. She figured something happened, but she didn’t quite know what. She was busy with her own job and helping Nina figure out the whole werewolf thing. She poked him lightly and shook her head. “No actually. I mean I don’t think so. It is a little weird.” She was so glad that she didn’t have to wear the same outfit all the time. Ugh.
“Guess people in our dreams are pretty oblivious,” Mitchell smirked, running a ran through his hair as he watched Annie, “I met a girl in my dreams. Met her in a unisex bathroom at the hospital.” His and Lucy’s first meeting had definitely been an interesting one as had been their other meetings since. Unlike other women he’d been with in the dreams over the years, something about Lucy made him awkward and it was a little unsettling.
She couldn’t help but laugh at that. “They do seem that way a bit. No offense to them or anything.” Her eyebrows raised up a bit. “In the unisex bathroom? Huh.” Well that was some weird way to meet a girl. She hated that she was feeling a little jealous. Annie tried not to think about it it like that. “So it looks like in our dreams.. we’re kind of going our separate ways..”
Mitchell didn’t like to think that they might be going their separate ways in the dreams, because he was afraid that it’d mean they’d grow apart in the waking world. It was a ridiculous thought, because the dreams didn’t dictate life, but he still thought it, “She was upset about having broken up with a boyfriend or something. There was something about a goldfish that vanished.” He left out the part where he’d gotten Lucy a goldfish to replace hers that had vanished.
Annie couldn’t imagine it either. They were a unit, the three of them. Three best friends, doing anything they could to get through things and save each other. She didn’t want to grow apart. She really wished George was here though. Beyond anything. He could keep them straight. Though in the dreams he was clearly dealing with something else. “Oh.” It was all that she could say. “This is weird. I mean our dreams are weird.. but I.. I mean that doesn’t have anything to do with here and now, right?”
Mitchell hoped that it didn’t, “I don’t think so. I mean, dreams can’t change how we feel about people here, can they?” Just because he liked Lucy in the dreams, that didn’t change that fact that he liked Annie in the waking world. At least he hoped that it wouldn’t. This really would be a good time to have George around. He somehow was always able to talk sense into Mitchell.
She shook her head a little defiantly. “No.. I mean..” Okay so it was time to really be real here. Talk like adults instead of just kind of beating around the bush so to speak. “The guy in my dream.. Saul or whatever his name is, it obviously doesn’t change how I feel.. about you.” There. She’d said it. “And it won’t ever change how I feel about you. He’s just some guy in my dream.” Annie shrugged slightly.
Mitchell’s brows rose slightly at Annie’s confession then a smile spread across his lips, “Well that’s a relief.” Reaching out, he ran the backs of his fingers over her cheek, “Cause I feel the same way. No matter what happens with Lucy, she’s just in my dreams. You’re flesh and blood and here.” He was pretty sure this was the type of talk Valerie had, had in mind when she’d told him to talk to Annie.
Oh good. He was smiling. That made Annie smile and look very relieved. Good. She was blushing a little and leaned into his hand. “Yeah? Good. Flesh and blood is much better than dream things. I mean for one thing.. you can touch me. And that’s way better than anything else.” And being alive was even better than that. “And I’ll always be here. I know that we’re living together and it could be awkward, but I think it’s a little too late to.. care about it.”
“If I recall, there have been times in the dreams when I can touch you. We did accidently kiss that one time,” Of course real world kissing was much better than dream kissing, especially since it had only been that one time. And he’d held her to comfort her plenty of times in the dreams as well, “So, what are you saying then? You think we should be more than just roommates who kiss every now and then?” He really hoped that’s what she meant; otherwise that awkward she mentioned was going to happen sooner than later.
“Oh yeah. Almost forgot about that,” she teased lightly. “Though that makes me wonder what it was exactly that makes me able to touch and be seen by some people and not others. I mean I get that I can only be seen by other supernaturals.. but the touch thing.. I don’t get it.” It wasn’t like she could touch her many mugs of tea. But how she did make it if she couldn’t touch anything? Bah. Right back to the point. “Yes, that’s what I’m saying. I mean if you want. If things get.. well let’s just deal with things as they come if it doesn’t work out.”
The things that Annie could and couldn’t do in the dreams was confusing at times, but none of that really mattered, because Annie was alive and could touch anything she wanted, whenever she wanted. “Alright. I think I can do that.” Mitchell hoped that things wouldn’t get awkward, because he’d hate to lose Annie in any way possible. “So, what now?” He was still smirking, his hand still cupping her cheek.
Every day she was so very glad that she wasn’t a ghost. It was the best thing in the world, compared to all of her weird dreams. She would do whatever she could not to make it awkward. And hey he wasn’t an abuser so he was already one step ahead of the curve. Annie didn’t want to think about the dreams. “I.. think we keep making out. Maybe.. get to second base.” She bit her bottom lip and smirked back.
Mitchell laughed softly, grinning and leaned forward, “I think we can arrange that.” He closed the rest of the distance between them, pressing a kiss to her lips. For weeks now he’d been wanting to move beyond kissing, but he hadn’t wanted to make things awkward, but knowing that Annie felt the same way about him made everything different. He would never hurt her the way Owen did, he could promise her that. Of course he was worried about what would happen if he became a vampire, but he hoped that it’d be like in his dreams where he could refrain from drinking blood and there would be no chance of his hurting her.
That was much better. Annie leaned into him, kissing him slowly as a way of building up. She didn’t mind moving beyond kissing. It wasn’t awkward now that they both were on the same page about things. It was the uncertainty that had prevented her from going much further. She trusted him, and that made it so much better. They could worry about the ghost and vampire stuff if and when it actually happened. For now her hands were finding their way inside his shirt, opening it up as she went.
The hand on cupping Annie’s cheek slid back into her hair as he kissed her, running his tongue along the seam of her lips, asking for entrance. As usual Mitchell was wearing layers, a short sleeved plaid shirt over a wifebeater.
Her lips parted and her tongue found his. She groaned against his mouth, trying to dig through the layers of clothes so that she could get to his skin. That was all she wanted. Well along with his hands on hers.
