Magius managed, carefully, to make his way to Emma’s room on Saturday evening. He was tired, aching and out of sorts, but he was there and slowly recovering, and he owed his patient a visit, damn it. He would not be stopped from his own duties by a mere broken set of ribs, contusions all over his body, and bruises, which, altogether, made him seem the survivor of an all out war. He clutched the Staff of Magius and used it to help him walk since he was very unwieldy. When he got to her room, he plucked her chart, and then sat down with a groan.
“Hello, Mrs Summers. Enjoying your stay?” His voice was warm, gentle, and understanding.
Emma stared at Magius as he came in the room, shocked that he would come see her in such a condition. “More than you are, I’d imagine. You should be in bed.” She was scolding him just a little.
“I will be, again, once I’ve seen to my patients.” He grinned lopsidedly at her. “Whether or not I am up to snuff, my mind is.” He surveyed her charts and made some notes, then nodded. “All seems well. How are you feeling? Better or worse than we talked about?”
He would not let up or let go of his responsibilities.
“I’ve stopped throwing up, and I can keep food down. I’m still not feeling well, and I think I’ve been something of a terror.” She didn’t really sound apologetic about that. “I want to go home very much.”
“Good, and also good.” He nodded. “I imagine so, but you have good excuse, so nevermind it.” He nodded then at the last. “Well, yes, as do I. I fear you must wait some small time yet, though.” He would find a way to cure her, damn it. He had no idea how, but he would!
“There are other doctors, Magius. You need to rest. I don’t want to hear about how I need to take it easy when you’re up and about when you shouldn’t be.” She prodded his hip gently.
“Oh I am, 99% of the time. I’m just handling a few things, and borrowing some strength from the staff.” he smiled to her. “I’m headed back to bed after this.”
He poked her back.
“Good.” Emma said with a nod. “You won’t do me any good if you’re stuck in here for too long.”
Magius smiled to her. “Nor you. Now, try to rest. I’ll be around now and then to check on you.” He would totally help her, even from his bed.
She nodded, waving at the machines she was hooked up to. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Magius rose and then slowly moved toward the door. “Be well, Emma, and be good to yourself… and others.” He winked at her as he went.
