Thor came in while Emma was sleeping, his smile warm, and stepped silently to her side. His eyes glowed with lightning, and he gently stroked a hand over her belly. His hand sparked, not with electricity, but with life, and he pressed a tiny amount of his life force into her, as he had done several other times in the hospital, sending ease and warmth and life to this strong woman, to help her through it. The sound of the dialysis machine annoyed him, and he glared at it for a moment before he sat at Emma’s bedside with a copy of a play his agent wanted him to consider, and waited for her to wake.
Emma wasn’t resting easily when he came in, but the contact with his powers soothed her body. She woke, still groggy, examining the title page of the play. “What kind of play is that?”
“”A comedy. A play on the efforts of mankind to organize a disorganized universe.” He put it down and then smiled at her. “And how are you feeling, Emma? You seem a bit more the worse for wear than last time I saw you.”
“Unfortunately so. It seems like my entire life is your play.” She sighed, rubbing her face a little. She knew she must look like hell.
Thor sighed. “Such is the way of things, it seems. I am one of the few untouched this time, and thus have been wandering, trying to help those I can.” He shook his head. “It’s a mess.” he stroked a hand along her arm. “I am sorry I cannot do more.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to.” She said simply. “But thank you. She’ll be alright, won’t she?” Emma's hand touched her belly, as she often did these days. “I feel like I blew up like a balloon. None of the clothes I have will go over my belly anymore. I had to send for maternity things.”
Thor laid his hand on her belly, then smiled. “Would you like to feel?” He could feel her and her baby’s life forces and could let Emma feel her baby’s life as well. “She is very healthy, strong, even.”
Emma nodded. “I’ve been so worried. The doctor said that-” She stopped, and just put her hand on his. “But you said she’s fine, and that’s all that matters.”
And he extended his senses, touching her so for a moment she too could sense the strong life force of her daughter, snuggled within her own body.
“She is strong, and will be fine.”
Emma sniffled once and nodded. “Thank you.”
Thor smiled to her. “You’re welcome, my friend. I will be here, on and off, until you are released. I promise it.” He would not let her down, her or any of those he called his own. “Then when you feel better, we can have tea again, somewhere.”
“I’d like that.” Emma said with a nod. “Are you going to do the play, or have you decided yet?”
“I think so. It’s not until January, but it looks like fun. and I can learn it by the time the rehearsals come around.” He grinned at her. “I want to keep my hand in with live acting, and not just screen acting.”
“Makes sense.” Emma said with a nod, her eyelids drooping again.
“And that is my cue to go. Sleep well, Emma, and I will return.” He bent to kiss her forehead and gently pat her belly, before turning to go.
“Good night.” Emma said softly, snuggling into the bed as much as she could.
