Alex hugged Lorna. They were sitting out on the back porch, a freshly made picnic lunch laid out for them, and home brewed ice tea. It was a nice evening, despite the dark happening recently. “At least Darius seems mostly unaffected.” He said it hopefully. He knew that no one stayed unaffected for long. Not in the OC.
He was hoping that things would get better in time. For all of them.
Lorna snuggled back against Alex, her arms squeezing his. “I honestly feel pretty good about this one. You know, on a personal level. I don’t like that other people have been hurt, but I’ve never felt this good before.”
“Good. I hope everyone else gets better quickly. And I just want us to be happy.” He hugged her tight, and kissed her neck, sighing. “I love you, Lorna, and seeing you happy makes me grin, a lot.”
He was worried about Match and Emma, but that was for later.
“I love you too.” She said, leaning her head back to kiss him softly. “I wish good things for me didn’t have to come at the expense of other people’s happiness.”
“I’m sorry love. But some bad things did happen to you, too. You lost half of yourself, and it was killed, and… while you feel good, surely that is not a great thing.”
She shrugged. “I don’t feel bad about it. I’m sad that Kitty lost her home.” That was all she really felt about the subject. She simply didn’t care. “That part of me had to die for me to be happy.”
Alex hugged her, worried, really, about this. Shouldn’t she care? What was going on? “Don’t you think you should?” He sighed. “I don’t know what to tell you, except that I am glad you are not hurting. I love you, more than anything or anyone I have ever known.”
She shrugged. “Don’t we have to defeat the selfish, uncontrollable parts of ourselves to be good people? I didn’t do it myself, but that part of me is gone, never to hurt anyone again, including me.” she reached back, stroking his face softly. “Don’t worry, baby. I’m fine. Better than ever.”
“Maybe so. I just worry.” He smiled and kissed her hand. “You know me:” He stroked her hair and smiled softly. “We should have a party sometime soon. Take advantage of the beach and the weather before it starts getting cold.”
He paused
“When people get well again.”
“Sure!” Lorna said with a nod. “I bet people will like it, and cooking that much food is a fun challenge.”
“Sounds good to me, then.” He kissed her, then and grinned. “I love you, Lorna. I’m very glad you’re okay.” He hoped she would be, anyway.
“I love you too.” She said with a slight laugh. “You’re very affectionate tonight.” She said it like she couldn’t understand why he’d be more affectionate than normal.
“It feels like the world has been a little extra brutal lately, and I am very glad to be able to hold the woman I love, my wife, and just snuggle her close. So, deal with it, cutie.”
She nodded and smiled, kissing his cheek. “I will find a way to bear this heavy burden.” She said with a small laugh.
Alex chuckled. “I knew you would.” Then he slid his hands under her shirt and proceeded to grope her breasts lightly. and stroke her back gently, all the while kissing her thoroughly. “You make me happy, love.”
She sighed softly, but wasn’t quite able to relax. “Someone will see us. We should go inside.”
Alex nodded, then sighed. “Okay, love.” He rose and held out his hand. “No one would care, here.”
“I would care.” Lorna said with a shrug. She stood up as well, tugging her shirt down.
Alex blinked and realized with a sinking feeling that this Lorna was not just less bouncy, she was less excited about life. He missed his Lorna, then, with a surge of pain. “Right. Ah, I’ll be inside in a moment, then, okay?” He needed a minute to think.
She noticed his change in expression, but she had no explanation. She nodded and went inside, wondering what she’d said that made him so sad. Did he only love her because they had kinky sex? She was confused, and hoped he would explain himself.
Alex came in a few minutes later, and smiled as he shed his clothes, and settled into bed. “Sorry, I had to think about something. I realized that you and the other you were not… are not the same, but I still love you. No matter what, now matter how this has changed you, I still love you, Lorna.”
He chuckled. “Some things might catch me by surprise, like outside, so please forgive me if they do.”
Lorna nodded, accepting his apology. “I understand that I’m not the same, and I’m sorry if that bothers you.” She wrapped her arm around him, kissing him softly. “I still love you, and I want you to see that I haven’t lost anything important.”
Alex snuggled her close, and kissed her, and stroked his hands in her hair, teasing, then smirked and slapped her rear. “I love you too, sexy butt.”
She frowned, but didn’t take offense at the slap. She knew that was something they’d enjoyed together, before. Her body tensed, and the mood was pretty much gone for her.
Alex winced, then sighed. “Sorry… I guess this is going to take some adjusting. Lets just snuggle for now?” He hoped that went well, at least.
“Okay. That sounds like a good idea.” Lorna said with a nod.
Alex snuggled her close and smiled, hoping that life would go on and get better as it went.
