Kitty was really, really nervous, but she thought she should introduce Rikku to people. She decided to start with Illyana. Jubilee soon, but right now, Illyana. Illyana’s..approval, for lack of a better word, was important to her. So she ordered take out and asked Rikku to come by to meet one of the people who was effectively her family.
Rikku bounced to the door in her Dress to Impress clothes - the only jeans and proper shirt she owned that weren’t stained with motor oil or engine grease. Her hair was pulled back, and her makeup was conservative. She’d even left her goggles at home. As she rang the bell, she couldn’t help but bounce on her feet a little. This was a big step!
She nearly bolted to get to the door, throwing it open and grinning at Rikku. A little breathlessly, she said, “Hey! You got here quick.” She checked her out. “God you’re hot. Come in!”
“I’m not really, but thank you.” She laughed and wrapped her arms around Kitty, kissing her lightly and stepping inside. “Is there anything I can help with?”
Illyana had waited in Clarice and her room, and when it seemed like the visitor, the big one, was here, she nodded and headed out., She was wearing a longer dress today, one of the few without a low neck, even if her new size did thus emphasize her breasts a little. Not bad, though. She nodded as she padded out to greet the new girl.
“Hello. Please, make yourself at home.”
“Illyana, meet Rikku. RIkku, Illyana.” She gestured at her friend. “Take-out should be here soon. I figured that way there’s less to worry about.”
Rikku smiled brightly at the other woman that had stepped in, green eyes going wide. “Wow, you’re really pretty too! Hi, I’m Rikku, Kitty talks about you all the time!” She couldn’t help but bounce on the balls of her feet as she shook Illyana’s hand.
Illyana blushed, then shook her head. “No, I am not. Kitty, Clarice, and you are pretty, I am just Illyana.” She nodded. “It’s nice to meet you, however. “
She executed a small bow, and smiled. “What sort of take-out? We do not want a repeat of the Western Thai incident, yes?”
“There’s a place that delivers pot roast,” Kitty retorted. “For catering and the like. Extra lazy but also yummy.” She elbowed her friend. “And you’re gorgeous so shush.”
Rikku’s eyes went wide. “Why do I not know about that place?” Rikku didn’t know how to cook anything that wasn’t microwavable or instant ramen, but she loved home cooking. “If I knew about that place, then I wouldn’t have to bother Yunie for food all the time!”
Illyana snerked. "Kitty finds all the nifty places and keeps them secret." She waggled her finger at Kitty.
“That way I can pull them out at the drop of a hat and impress people,” she replied, evenly. “I also know people!” And by people she meant hackers.
“You don’t have to try to impress me, Kitty.” Rikku actually meant that when she said it; it made her happy just to be around the other woman. “Illyana, what do you do for fun and work?”
Illyana just grinned at Kitty before answering Rikku. “Fun and work? Sex, running a magic shop, making people startled, chasing Kitty’s little purple friend, swordplay, and generally shenanigans.” She nodded, eyes curious. “And you?” She was maybe getting the hang of this small talk thing.
Maybe.
‘Course I have to impress you,’ Kitty murmured, under her breath. She relaxed as Illyana spoke, and rolled her eyes at both the sex and the thing about Lockheed. “Speaking of the firebreather, he around?”
“Purple who and the what now?” Rikku blinked, wondering if they were teasing her. “Um, my work is fun, I build robots and other mechanical stuff and purple friend? Who’s that?”
“That dragon I told you about,” Kitty said, looking around for him. “Who’s never anywhere where you want him to be when you want him to be. Maybe he’s visiting Navi.”
“I think he’s crashed out in your room, but he might have zoomed off and away.” Illyana nodded. “He is a nuisance, but fun.”
Rikku shrugged, then held her pinkies to her lips and whistled. It wasn’t as loud as she could have made it, but hell. If anything was awake in the living room or the next room over, it wasn’t now.
“He’s not a nuisance,” Kitty protested. “Okay he totally is a nuisance.”
At the whistle, there came a blur of purple, and something zipped around the room before landing on Kitty’s shoulder, tail wrapping around her arm. “BWAH?” He looked at Rikku and hissed.
Illyana grinned. “Lockheed! Be nice! There is food to be had and a good evening to come.” She waggled a finger at the dragon, and smirked, a little. Illyana was just a little silly, sometimes. She was also pretending her sword had not flickered into existence and out again when that whistle went off. Nope. Hadn’t happened.
Rikku’s green eyes went wide, hissing right back with her hands on her hips. “Bwah yourself, buddy!” She waggled her eyebrows in a menacing way, leaning forward.
Lockheed hissed again, then squawked and alighted, tearing around the living room like a cat on one of those crazed moments that cats were so famous for.
Kitty facepalmed.
Illyana snickered. “Lockheed. Come now. Should I tell Navi you were being a meanie?” She was not afraid of unleashing the Navi frowns on Lockheed.
Rikku folded her arms. “That thing doesn’t like me, does it?”
“Give him a little time.” Kitty waited, then jumped up and grabbed him. She stroked his nose. “He took a few…. months.. to like Xi’an, too. Never really introduced him to Alicia but he would have …. “ God, she missed them both. She’d considered writing Alicia, but decided not to. The last thing she needed was flashbacks, she had a hard enough time sleeping as it was. “And in the dreams he hated Wisdom too...I think he OTPs me and Piotr.”
“Navi,” Lockheed squawked, and calmed down at the nose petting. He looked at Rikku, squinty eyed.
“Lockheed, this is Rikku.”
“Bah.”
“Lockheed.”
“Bah..?”
“Be nice.”
“Bah…”
Illyana stepped in and gently touched Rikku’s arm with one hand, and stroked Lockheed’s back softly, nails stroking over him. “Good. Now, there are snacks coming, yes? We should settled on the couch.”
Rikku sighed. She looked over at the purple thing, then blinked. “Wait. You’re a dragon?” Rikku moved a little closer. “I’m sorry I woke you up. I didn’t - didn’t realize you’d be smart. I mean, that sounds mean, but I kind of thought you were a dog? I didn’t... “ She sat down, reaching out a hand to him, knees curling toward her chest. “I just want to get along because I like Kitty so much, you know?”
Lockheed fluttered his wings and blew smoke out his nose at Rikku. But he seemed to calm down. A little. “Bwah.”
It made Kitty smile, and she plopped down onto the couch.
Illyana nodded. “See now, he likes you. Soon, he’ll be cuddling against your breasts and raiding your food.” Illyana didn’t sound dismayed by either thing.
That made Rikku laugh. “I’d cuddle boobs if I was his size too, they’re warm. Sorry I don’t have any to cuddle, Lockheed.” She really had just thought they were talking about a dog. She’d have treaded lighter if they’d said it was a freakin’ dragon!
Sitting down, Rikku crossed her legs and pulled them under her body, she sat up straight. “Thanks for dinner, KittyKitty.”
Kitty grinned. “You’re welcome. At least he’s calmed down. Just don’t be hurt if it takes him awhile to actually warm up to you.” Or never, she worried about never. “Sometimes I swear he just wants me to himself.”
“Bwha?”
“Stinker.”
Illyana snerked. “What sort of work do you do again? I am afraid I missed it.”
“I’m a robotic engineer at Stark Tech,” Rikku smiled. She blinked at the dragon, then shook her head. “Great, my girlfriend has a dragon stalker.”
“She’s a genius,” Kitty clarified, and proudly. Then, she was generally attracted to smart people. Everyone she’d dated had been intelligent in one way or another.
Illyana’s eyes lit up. “That is cool! Do you actually make robots?” Okay, so she was a bit of a robot fan.
“I’m not a genius,” Rikku blushed. She nodded, reaching into her jacket and pulling out some small robots she’d been tinkering with while waiting in line at the commissary for lunch that day.
“Just made these out of the parts of a cigarette lighter,” she mumbled shyly.
“Told you,” Kitty said, triumphantly.
Illyana stared, and her fingers twitched as if to take them, and she nodded. “Wow… definitely a genius, like Kitty.” She sideeyed her friend. “Have you shown her what you can do?”
“We met after I phased my motorcycle through a suddenly stopped semi-truck,” Kitty assured her.
Rikku nodded hard. “I wondered how she’d done it and made her show me again.” Rikku blushed a little; she knew she could be overbearing and hoped that she wasn’t doing it again.
Illyana smirked. “Good. She needs someone who can take the reigns and poke her.” There was loving laughter in her voice as she glanced at Kitty and nodded. “You seem a good person, I am glad to meet you.”
Kitty looked like her mind went places at Illyana’s words, and she shook her head to clear it. “Oh-was-that-the-door? I’ll go get the food.” She hopped up and ran to the door!
Rikku smiled and shook her head. “She was thinking something dirty. Sometimes it’s like dating a sixteen-year-old boy with a vagina and nice boobs.”
“She does think dirty a lot, and this is another reason why I like her..” She nodded. “I am glad you two found each other.” She smirked warmly.
Kitty, meanwhile, was balancing several packages of food and trying to get it into the kitchen, without eavesdropping!
“I like her a lot too. She’s ... comfy. I know that’s a weird word to use, but I just feel like a better version of myself around her. And all I want to do is make her happy, you know?” She sniffled a little bit, hating to think of her KittyKitty in any sort of pain.
Illyana eyed the woman, then hugged Rikku. “Then we will get along just fine. This is the part where I threaten if you ever hurt her I will do something nasty. But I am sure that is not necessary.” For a moment, Illyana’ smile was quite a bit wickeder,. but then gone. “Tonight, there is drink and food and probably silly songs.”
“We’ve got a karaoke game on the PS3,” Kitty said, returning with food and some water. She gave them a grin.
“I don’t think I could do something like that. And oooh, you guys are tempting fate with your horrible game, because my voice is the worst.” Rikku wrinkled her nose. She was a much better dancer.
“We should have fun. Having fun is about the seriously awesome people we are. And Karaoke is fun.” Illyana nodded.
“It’s fun, it doesn’t matter then I’m a better singer than both of you,” Kitty replied, sticking her tongue out at them.
Rikku stuck her tongue out right back. “Hey, it’s a good thing you’re not dating me for my singing talent. Do you need help with the food?”
Illyana laughed. “Maybe so. We can see, yes?” And then she chuckled. “And drinks, yes?” There should be some form of drink for a happy night.
Kitty didn’t really care if Illyana drank, no matter how old she was. “I kinda promised I wouldn’t plow Rikku with drinks.”
“Oh, it’s fine, I’ll just have a Coke.” Rikku smiled. “I’m not much of a drinker anyway.” Every guy at every garage she’d ever helped at, at every base in the world, they’d all tried to help her get drunk. She hadn’t liked beer in the States, Japan, or Guam.
Illyana nodded, subsiding some. “Of course. Whatever works for you.” She smiled at them. “You two are so cute.”
“Shh.” Kitty pulled Rikku over into her lap for a quick, but intense kiss. “It’s not like you can’t be adorable half the time either.”
Rikku wrinkled her nose, laughing until she was kissed. That made her purr a little in the back of her throat, and she smiled, dazed, when Kitty stopped. “Woah.”
Illyana chuckled and made her way toward the food. These two lovebirds could kiss some while she busied herself!
Snogging. Food. There wasn’t much difference to Kitty. Both were important to life!
