Babies were tiny and adorable, but Miguel was also pretty sure that they slept a lot and other sorts of things like that. So when he finally got over to Navi's he decided that probably the best course of action was not, in fact, being yell-y. Instead, he dropped some food that he'd brought over on the counter and then gave Navi a very pointed look before caps locking in a whisper ( he had been practicing for this). "SHOW ME YOUR CHILD."

Stage whispers were nothing abnormal in the Wisdom household, even before she’d had a baby. But Miguel doing it was a new thing, and she laughed happily, motioning him over. She was already holding the tiny bundle, wrapped in a bright yellow blanket. The little girl was sleeping, pink face rounded, and whisps of brown hair peeking out from the top of her head.

Somehow Miguel made a noise of excitement and squee without making any noise at all. It was really an effort for him, but he managed it swimmingly. He had, after all, been that guy: the guy whose second language was sign language just so that he would know how to shout even without a voice.

He peeked over, teeth and smile bright. “Oh my goddddd,” he said super quiet-like. He might die right here.

“Do you want to hold her?” Navi smiled excitedly, resisting the urge to bounce in her seat. “She’ll sleep right through it, I think.”

“I hope so.” He didn’t want to ruin it -- wasn’t sure how long babies cried when they started, but he certainly didn’t want to be the person to start it. Either way, he put his hands out -- awkward and suddenly unsure. “I don’t --er. Know how, sooo.”

Navi smiled. “Take your arms and pretend you’re doing charades. How would you do baby? That cradle thing everyone does.” Navi grinned. “That’s actually how you hold a baby.” She let him study how she was holding baby Zelda, smiling drowsily.

Miguel looked oddly serious for the first time ever and gave a nod of understanding before mirroring the pose and scooting forward a little more to be handed the tiny child which was definitely not on fire like he’d kind of been expecting because.

She reached out to gently transfer the baby Zelda into Miguel’s arms, smiling and nodding. “Good. Just make sure you always support her neck by the back of her head. Babies don’t have strong neck muscles, so they can’t hold their heads up. And they don’t have fully fused skulls either, so don’t smush the top of her head either.”

He did as asked, moving like he was possibly holding the most fragile thing on the planet (and okay, he kinda was), before giving another brilliant smile once he was sure he had it all right. “She’s literally the more beautiful thing, Navi. Look what you did. Wow.”

“She has her daddy’s nose and my eyes.” Navi hoped the eyes would stay blue, but she was figuring they’d end up turning brown like Pete’s as well. “She’s been a dream so far. Pretty quiet, not too fussy.” Navi had fed her before Miguel came over, figuring he didn’t want to watch her as she was breastfeeding.

Boobies were kind of weird. But hey, Miguel probably could have… pointedly not watched or something. No big deal. Whatever.

"She's got a tiny nose," Miguel pointed out, clearly charmed by the little creature he was holding. "I brought you dinner. In case you -- you know. Needed it."

“Oh, thank you sweetheart.” Navi smiled when baby Zelda yawned, leaning over to kiss her head. “Do you want some too?”

Miguel smiled, rocking a little on the balls of his feet. “Whenever you’re done. You know, I remember reading somewhere that this is the part of parenting that’s hardest. Finding time to do normal stuff. So eat and enjoy it.” Probably she could have just as easily put the baby down to sleep, but he was trying to make a nice gesture of things, man. Navi was, after all, the first friend he’d made in this city.

She smiled, fluttering upward with her wings to kiss his cheek. “Thank you. Pete’s sacked out for the night.” She went to portion out food for the both of them, bringing plates to the table and starting to tuck in onto hers. “You’re an angel.”

"Nah," Miguel said, looking abashed and pleased at the same time, somehow. "I'm just a cool dude with a lot of time on my hands, that's all."

“Six on one, half a dozen on the other,” Navi beamed. She seemed to visibly relax the more food and water she got into her system, and she was content to just lay back, off of her feet. The baby continued to sleep, not stirring in Miguel’s arms.

Which was good, because he honestly wasn't sure what he'd do if it started crying or … whatever it was babies did when they weren't sleeping. Puking? Something.

After Navi finished eating, she smiled, reaching out for the baby and taking her once again. The little one started fussing, and Navi grabbed a towel so that there was some privacy between her and Miguel. “How’s plans for the wedding going?”

Miguel only took his turn to plop down into a chair and eat. Holding babies was rough work, man. "Oh. You know. Okay, I guess. We're both kinda lazy, Tulio and I." He didn't seem overly bothered by it though.

Navi smiled, cooing a little at Zelda. “Well, the fact you’re doing it at all, that means a lot.” She reached out to squeeze his hand with her free one. “Pete and I want to get remarried too.”

"I thought you already did?" Miguel had the silliest of faces, always amazingly animated, and now was no different, eyebrows all raised up and mouth in a curious little line. "Or I could be making everything up ever."

“Oh, no, not yet. We should do it soon, we keep meaning to.” Navi grinned at him, appreciating his silly face. “Once we find out if Zelda’s wings are for show or for flying, and even then, if she flies, I don’t want to saddle her with a sitter, you know?”

"Wait she actually has wings already? Holy crap you are the coolest freaking parents, it isn't even fair." He was covering his mouth with a hand like the shock was just too great. It was clear that Miguel would have the best time chasing around a small child with wings.

“She does! They’re all folded up now, it’s so cute, she tucks them when she sleeps.” Navi held the baby aloft, wiggling its onesie down so he could see bright blue wings with red speckles on them.

Miguel was back to that stage whisper, all caps and wide blue eyes. “FIRE FAIRY.”

She stage whispered right back. “THAT’S WHAT WE HOPE. WELL, ALSO THAT SHE WON’T LIGHT TOO MANY TOYS ON FIRE.” Navi was looking forward to teaching her daughter how to fly.

It was always kind of funny about what he should find odd or unnatural but just didn’t. Miguel only smiled, scrubbed at his nose with the back of his hand and looked delighted as one possibly could be. “She’s beautiful.”

“Thank you. She looks a lot like Pete, honestly.” Navi just stroked one of the wings happily before putting the baby’s onesie back on. “I bet if you and Tulio had kids, they’d look like him too. Stupid brown hair dominant genes!”

Miguel smiled over that. "Yeah, maybe. But Tulio's lovely, isn't he?" It wasn't really a question: of course Miguel thought that Tulio was good looking. Really ridiculously good looking.

"But I don't think we'd ever. You know."

“He is, and I don’t know, if you ever want them, you could someday.” Navi shrugged. “I used to think I’d never find someone who wanted to marry me. Never say never!”

Clearing their plates for them, Miguel even had the mind to stick everything in the dishwasher. Every little bit helped, right?

"I dunno, I figure we'll just collect a bunch of pets and see how that goes." Which was really just what they were already doing, what with that horse and two cats and all.

“That’s a good start! I’ve got a couple of cats, so they’re good starts too.” She couldn’t help but stand up and hug him with one arm, holding Zelda with the other.

He returned the hug, and pressed a playful kiss to her cheek. "Yeah, it's a start. Hey, I'll get out of your way now, everyone's probably tired, huh? But call me if you need anything?"

“Of course. I didn’t know you were such a good babysitter!” Navi grinned, returning his kiss to the cheek with one of her own.

"I'm totally capable. And awesome." Miguel stuck his tongue out and then waved with veritable jazz hands on the way out.

“My hero,” Navi giggled, waving goodbye with her free hand. It was nice to have babysitters!
