Faye was in the club doing a stock check. She’d met with suppliers earlier in the day so her suit was hanging in the back office and she now wore jeans and a low cut top. She was sat on the bar doing a sight check before she headed down to the cellar to check the rest of it.
Vala crept up behind her friend quietly after flirting with the security guard who know her quite well by now. Biding her time, and stifling a giggle, she came up right behind Faye and poked her in the sides to surprise her.
With a squeak Faye shot off the bar and landed on her backside on the floor, “Ow” she moaned before standing, shooting a grin at Vala, “You bitch” she said laughing a little, “I need to have words with security about letting in vagrants”
"Huh, watch who you're calling vagrant you," Vala joked, coming around the bar to help Faye up. "I come bearing a proposition," she told her. "And no, not that kind," she winked, anticipating the lewd remark from her friend.
“So not only do you push me off the bar but you’re not even going to make up for it with a little fun” Faye pouted, “You don’t play fair” she teased.
"Well, no fun yet," Vala winked. "And besides, I didn't push you...you fell," she pointed out.
“Semantics” Faye waved off, “Come on then - what’s this possibly fun proposition then?” she grinned teasingly.
"I've got a couple of events coming up, that need a bartending crew, and I thought of you," Vala told her. "You remember we went to try those candy based cocktails the other week? Well that's the theme for a 21st birthday party I'm organising for next month, all very gingerbread house," she explained.
“Oh I remember” she grinned, “Sure. Just let me know dates and how many people we’re looking at and I’ll work out how many people I’ll need, stock levels etc and give you a quote”
"Excellent!" Vala grinned. "Well the date's the 28th of september and I'm going to ask for final confirmation of numbers in the next two weeks," she told her. "The other gig is...huuuge!"
Faye nodded, “I can give you an estimate then firm up the quote when you give me the final numbers” she laughed at her friend, “How huge are you talking?”
“Excellent, knew I could rely on you,” Vala shoulder bumped Faye. “Huge as in, could potentially be a few of engagements over a couple of weeks depending on how many of the designers want me involved in their shows,” she grinned.
“Of course you can” Faye replied shoulder bumping Vala in return with a grin, “Who knew that you’d come with so many added benefits” she winked, “I could just set up shop helping you and your events”
Vala chuckled, it was true, Faye was her first go-to girl nowadays when it came to her work. “Well, you’re the first person I think of when it comes to arranging stuff,” she smiled. “If you did food I wouldn’t have to look anywhere else,” she joked.
“I can’t cook for shit” Faye said, “So I’m afraid you’ll just have to get your food from a different dealer but I always have you covered for drinks”
“I know, I know,” Vala nodded. “Hey ho, keeps me making friends,” she grinned. “Thanks, it means a lot. Remind me to take you out for a proper thank you when this is all over.”
"You know you love it" Faye said, her friend was completely suited to her job. "Well I'm not going to turn that down, I'll remind you" she grinned.
"You? Turn something down? Never!" Vala laughed.
Faye smacked her friends arm then faked thoughtfulness, “No actually you’re right. I’m not known for saying no to anything”
"I only speak the truth!" Vala defended herself, holding her hands up. "...mostly...if I think it's worth it," she winked.
She laughed, “It’s a good job I love you” she grinned, “And you give me work”
"You know it!" Vala grinned proudly. "What's new with you then?"
“Actually it’s all been fairly quiet since the bodyswap” Faye replied, “Which I am completely grateful for just to add” Knowing this place something was listening.
“Thought you loved being busy though,” Vala commented with a frown. “Everything ok?”
“Oh yeah, work’s great” Faye said, “I just kind of like the quieter pace at home for a bit. I’ll bounce back, don’t worry” she smiled. It was just taking a little longer than she’d anticipated, she’d really hated not being herself.
Vala frowned at her friend. She could tell something was wrong from that response. “So...what actually happened during the body swap? Did someone...y’know...do something weird to your body or something?”
“No, not at all. She was actually quite sweet. I just, I had a slight freakout a few days before we switched back” Faye admitted, “Started worrying about what would happen if I never got my body back. Kinda still worrying that it’s gonna get stolen from me again”
“Aww sweetie,” Vala reached over and hugged her friend tightly. “I’m sorry, I can’t imagine how weird that must have been. Have you talked to anyone about it? Like...a professional?”
Faye hugged back with a small smile, “Thanks V, it was fucked up but then that’s this place I guess” When she pulled back she gave her friend a look, “Babe, seriously? All I need are a few more nights with Merle and I’ll be fine”
"I know, I know!" Vala grinned as she pulled back from the hug. "Just seems to be," she shrugged. "Something 'normal' people would do," she joked. "Ah, how is our Merle doing?"
“I’m far from normal, have been for a while” Faye quipped, “Well he’s doing me pretty well” she laughed, “Oh you mean in general? He’s good, almost as glad to see my body as I was” she winked.
"You're awful, you know that?" Vala grinned as she smacked Faye on the arm. "I bet he was, he does seem to have a fascination with your breasts," she looked down at them with a dismissive look. "No idea why..."
Faye’s laugh was wicked as Vala slapped her, “He does” she agreed, leaning back slightly so they were even more prominent than usual, “Well you are sometimes a little slow on the uptake” she smirked.
"Oh really?" Vala asked archly with a laugh. "I think the same goes for you, where's my drink?" she teased, mostly serious.
Faye rolled her eyes, “Please if you were that desperate you’d have helped yourself by now” she pointed out but did grab a glass to get Vala’s drink for her, placing it down with a flourish and a bow, “My lady’s drink”
"Thank you, wench," Vala said in her best posh voice and giving a dismissive wave to tease her as she picked up the glass. "Carry on!" she told her before bursting into giggles.
Faye laughed too, leaning on the bar. “So apart from work going well with all your party planning how are you doing?” she asked her friend when she could speak once more.
"Oh I'm fine," Vala shook her head before taking a sip of her drink. "No regular squeeze like someone I know," she nudged Faye with her shoulder. "But lots of new and exciting prospects on the horizon," she winked at Faye. "Speaking of which, I found someone who shares the same crazy dreams as me, who knew?"
Faye rolled her eyes, “He’s convenient and good at what he does” she shrugged. “New and exciting sounds good. Oh really? That’s pretty cool. Tell me more”
"Her name's Samantha Carter and she's a teacher at UCI, a real smart cookie too! I took her to Vegas and she is a really smart cookie! She is great at card counting!" Vala told her conspiratorially.
Faye laughed, “Yeah pretty nifty skill to have” one that Faye herself also had though she was banned from a number of casinos thanks to it. In fact not so long ago she and Gin had needed to leg it out the back of one of them when she’d tried her hand again. “So what are you in your dreams?” Somehow they always managed to find other things to do or talk about. It seemed crazy.
"I seem to be an alien con artist," Vala laughed. "Straight laced lil ol' me," she joked.
“Oh now that is brilliant” Faye grinned, “I love it. I’m a con-artist too. Like attracts like” she chuckled.
"Seriously?! That's just freaky!" Vala grinned at her.
Faye nodded, “Con-artist turned bounty hunter, I even have my own spaceship called Red Tail” she added.
"Oo...spaceship?" Vala asked excitedly. "I think I stole one of those once," she laughed. "We really are a pair!"
“We are” Faye agreed, “We’re obviously meant to be friends, shame we don’t seem to dream about the same world still makes things interesting I guess”
"Makes things more interesting I say! Could you imagine if we like, got our ships?! We could be space pirates! Or charge admission to see them for the general public," Vala imagined before tilting her head to the side in contemplation. "Government might not like that last one..."
“Oh I quite like the idea of being a space pirate” Faye said with a twinkle in her eyes, “Maybe charge admission on the side, not like the government have to know everything right?”
"I could totally be a space pirate!" Vala smiled, hopping up to sit on the bar next to her drink. "Awesome clothes, thigh high boots, leather..." she described.
“Well I have those in my wardrobe already so not too much of a change” Faye told her friend with a smile.
“Hear hear,” Vala raised her glass in a toast and took a sip of her drink. “Wouldn’t be too intimidating for the men-folk, you think?” Vala asked, her list of booty calls had lengthened considerably in the last few months and she didn’t want to scare them off with the biker look.
“If they’re scared off by leather then you really aren’t hanging with the right men-folk” Faye told her.
Vala chuckled, true, she had been hanging out with a slightly tamer crowd lately but that was because of work. "We need a night out on the town!" she announced.
“Actually I have to agree, it’s been ages since I’ve been anywhere that wasn’t my own club” she grinned, “Maybe I should check out the competition”
“Oooh, I like it! A mission!” Vala grinned, swinging her legs excitedly. “When? When?!” she all but bounced on the counter.
Faye laughed, “Eager aren’t we?” she grinned, “How about this Friday? Or would Saturday be better?” she considered.
“Always eager,” Vala winked across at Faye. “Friday’s not so good for me though,” she winced a little. “Got a little shindig going on for an elderly actor’s 90th birthday or something, but Saturday’s good!”
“Then Saturday it is” Faye nodded, “But for now I’m going to have to get back to this stock take” she said somewhat apologetically.
“Boring!” Vala sing-songed as she picked up her drink again. “Before you go back to the world of ‘Normal’, where are we going? What competition do you want to check out?” she asked before finishing her drink. “Gotta know the dress code,” she shrugged innocently.
“Uh-huh cos you’re always worried about dressing correctly” she teased with a wink, “How about that club on the Newport road, [name of club]?”
“Well I don’t want to turn up looking like a belly dancer to a biker joint,” Vala teased as she jumped down from the counter. “Sounds good to me, not been there yet,” she smiled. “Great, well, I’m sure I should probably be doing something constructive,” she joked. “See you on friday, meet you there?”
“If anybody could pull it off you could” Faye teased, “Friday and yep I’ll meet you there. Looking forward to it, been awhile since I let off steam”
“Excellent, see you later!” Vala called over her shoulder as she made her way to the door, casting Faye a wave with her hand.
“Later babe” Faye waved before returning to the stock take.
