Tink didn’t care who was there, who saw, or what they saw. She pulled up on her bike, tore her helmet off, went running up into the garage toward her friend Tom and gave him the biggest glomp!hug in the whole world, nearly knocking her friend down to the floor with her tackle.
Well. That was a surprise. He blinked and caught her, stumbling back a bit before managing to catch himself, too.
“Hello,” Tom said, “good to see you, too. What’s going on?”
“Thank you.” Tink said, grinning almost giddily. She would have been bouncing on her feet had she not just pummelled him with a huge hug. “Thank you thank you thank you!”
“For what?” He just laughed, completely confused about everything but amused all the same. “What did I do?”
Finally, Tink released him and gave a laugh. “You told me to tell him. And I did! I told him! And he likes me, too! And he’s my boyfriend now! I’ve never had a boyfriend before. I’m just excited!”
Tom blinked again, then his face cracked into a large grin. “You see? I told you to just do it. And you thought I was crazy. That’s amazing, congratulations!”
“You were right, Tom!” Tink was laughing with excitement, giddy like a twelve year old girl in the throes of her first crush. “I was just scared. I had no idea how he was going to react. But it was good. Really good. We kissed!” She said the last bit in a stage whisper, then burst into more laughter. This was all fun and embarrassing, too.
"Wow, no time wasted. Look at you go." He clapped her on the back. "I'm proud of you."
Tink lifted both hands to cover her face. It was going bright red. When Tink blushed, she went scarlet. And it would linger on her cheeks for a long, long time. She was laughing, though, the blush was good-natured. “Thank you. Thank you.” She gave him a grin between her fingers. “I just… I have no idea what to do now.”
“Easy. You enjoy being together with someone you really like, and you daydream about the future.” Tom laughed. “You’ll figure it out.”
“The future?” Tink asked. The grin was falling slightly as the future echoed in her head. What did that mean?? “Like… next year?”
“Sure.” He shrugged. “Or next month. Or tomorrow. When you just think about seeing them, it’s a good feeling. And even if you don’t really want to do the whole being with someone the rest of your life thing, it’s fun sometimes to think about it.”
Tink nodded, thinking on that for a moment. She could barely imagine next month let alone the rest of her life. “I do want to be with him. All day every day.” She mused aloud. But that could just be the infatuation that one felt early in a relationship. It didn’t necessarily have to be “true love” or whatever. Though, she and Billy were compatible on so many levels, connected in so many ways. “I think about it more than I should,” she added, blushing.
“Of course you do!” Tom just looked amused. “You’re in the honeymoon phase. Everyone feels like this when they enter a new relationship. You’ll be fine, trust me.”
“I’ve never been in a relationship before! This is all so new. And exciting.” Tink beamed. “Anyway, I just wanted to give you a hug. Now I should go get back to work!” She jumped up to head back out to her bike. “But I’ll text you!”
“Well, I’m glad you did! And I’m glad it worked out for you. You deserve it.” Tom gave her a wave, then laughed to himself before going back to work.
