Pansy was in Baxter Bakery. They had the best damn chocolate croissants in the world, and those shimmering milk whatevers? Fucking amazing. Pansy couldn’t get enough of them. They were all surely going straight to her waist, but she didn’t care. She could work it all off later. Later. What a procrastinator.
She was in line, eyeing the croissants in the case and hoping that the people in front of her wanted scones instead. It’d be a shame if those croissants all got sold before she had a chance at them.
Chocolate croissants were a hot commodity. Sadly, they were one of the few things that even motivated Roger to get out and about these days, and he knew that you had to get there early otherwise it was an agonizing twenty-four hour wait for more. He watched them slowly disappear as he made his way up the line, not knowing that the girl behind him was eyeing them up, too.
When he got to the counter, he got his coffee, and the last gooey croissanty goodness in the case.
Pansy couldn’t help it. She let out a soft curse when she saw the guy in front of her order the last one. Then she sighed. The almond ones weren’t the same. The plain ones were lacking. The raspberry--well… maybe those would be worth it?
“Lucky,” she muttered at him, though not unkindly. There was a little smirk hidden under her features. “Best treat in the whole bakery if you ask me.”
“Huh?” Roger blinked, then looked behind him. “Oh - Sorry. Do you want it? Because I’m totally okay with the other ones. It’s all yours.”
“No no, first come first serve.” Pansy said, giving him a little smirk. “I’ll just have one of the raspberry ones.” She didn’t sound that disappointed. Though she was.
Well, now he just felt bad. He ordered himself a raspberry one, and had the cashier hold the chocolate one. “Nah, it’s fine. It’s all yours. I should branch out more, anyway.”
Pansy blushed a little. “Hey, thanks, man. You really didn’t have to… wait.” She leaned over, her shoulder brushing his. “Hey, can you cut the chocolate one in half? And give him half.” She said, motioning to him. It was the least she could do.
He was glad there wasn't a line behind them. "In half it is. I'm Roger, by the way," he told her as he got his coffee.
“Hi, Roger,” Pansy said, giving him a bit of a smile. “I’m Pansy.” She ordered her own coffee, and waited with him while the pastry was collected and cut, and their coffees were being made. “I really only come here for the chocolate croissants,” she added, almost sheepishly.
“I won’t lie,” he said, somewhat conspiratorially, “me too. For the most part. I like the other things, too, but especially these.”
Pansy grinned. “Everything here is good, but the chocolate croissants are exceptional.” She agreed, then accepted her coffee and pastry from the barista, giving a gentle “thanks” for them. “Well, thanks for the pastry. It was really kind of you.”
“No problem. I’m sure we’ll run into each other here again.” Roger cracked a smile before turning to get a lid for his coffee.
