The movers had come, had gone; filling the rooms of Tywin Lannister's new home with less emptiness. No piece of furniture he already owned had left the walls of the estate in the Hamptons. They had their place and wouldn't belong so everything here, on the other side of the country, was new. Sharp edges, polished surfaces, cold and smooth to the touch. A handful of the small army of servants tasked to take care of the Hamptons estate had arrived the day before, moved across the country like pawns regardless of whether they had family or not. Their Lord and Master had called and what other choice did they have but to follow. Being in the service of Mister Lannister meant they were rewarded more handsomely than other people in their business.
Leader of the skeletal staff of servants was the housekeeper Joanna had hired after the twins were born. She would no doubt make additions to the crew as she saw fit and run this household as efficiently as she had the other. It would be easier this time because there were no little children to take into account. Besides, it was only temporarily. No need to ask or get confirmation from Mister Lannister. After thirty-something years, she could tell that this was not going to be a permanent home to him just by glancing at the way it was set up.
The kitchen made dinner for one just as they had when Mister Lannister's son had visited them in the Hamptons last month and it was served on the large terrace. In a way, nothing had really changed for anybody.
