Lorna needed a break from all the men in her life. She mostly loved them, to varying degrees, but she needed to get out and away from them for a little bit. She decided to see if Mavis was up for an adventure that night. With her new job and all the recent madness she wasn’t getting out as much, and she needed to fix that ASAP.
Mavis was taking advantage of her last chances to have adventures before classes began, and she had to adjust to a new schedule. She knew that Alex and Lorna, and Match, and maybe even Scud would find ways to remind her to have fun--but she was going to live it up as much as she could.
Lorna knocked on Mavis’s door, bouncing in her sexy club clothes. She couldn’t wait to get out and dance! After trying the new Thai place that had just opened up downtown.
Mavis had on a little black dress, with bright, colorful leggings. She had lipgloss, and a little eyeshadow, which was about the extend as she trusted her ability to apply makeup without the use of a mirror. “Hey!” she said, opening the door. “What’s up?”
“Not much. Ready to go?” Mavis didn’t need much makeup, anyway. She was pretty enough without it, in Lorna’s opinion.
“I’m ready,” Mavis said, bouncing out, and shutting the guest-house behind her. “Where to?”
“The new Thai place, then dancing. Unless you had something better in mind? After a week of telling my guest not to call me ‘ma’am’ I could use a couple drinks and some stress relief.”
“No, that sounds perfect,” Mavis said, slipping her arm in Lorna’s. “And I promise I won’t make you talk about houseguests, or housework, unless you really want to. Just...let me know if you need me to babysit some night, so you and Alex can have some alone time.”
“We’re thinking about taking a daytrip to New Mexico, actually.” She smiled brightly and led the way to her scooter. “He’s not much trouble. Tends to do better if he’s left alone, actually. He freaks out anytime I try to be friendly at him.”
“So I probably shouldn’t turn into a tiny bat and make a nest in his hair, then?” Mavis asked, her voice edged with mirth. Most people who had seen her bat-self melted in a puddle of feels from the cute, but she was surprised that more of them didn’t freak out. “Sigh.”
Lorna laughed and slid onto her scooter. “Only if you record his reaction for us.”
Mavis laughed with her. “I could probably arrange that. Video Skype you, or something. Hopefully I’d still show up on camera, but if you get a video of Darius flailing at an invisible something, you’ll know why!”
Lorna laughed loudly and took off down the road. “We should be nicer to him, he didn’t know he was signing up for the crazytrain."
"True. I guess we can try to break him in gently, but there's no way the OC's going to calm down for anybody's sanity." Poor kid. Hopefully he wouldn't be too traumatized.
Lorna nodded. “Luckily he already suspected weird stuff was going down. When he sees it up close and personal it’s going to blow his mind.”
“Maybe it’ll be good for him. To have a change of scenery.” Mavis knew that Alex and Lorna worried about the kid. She hoped they’d be able to sort things out. “I promise, I’ll be nice. But I thought we were supposed to be giving you a break from worrying! So what else should we gossip about?”
“You and Match.” Lorna said immediately. “How’re things? Is he being good to you?”
"Things are good," she said, "He's a lot more confident with his own body back, but we're still taking things kind of slow. It's good though, slow and steady. I'm not scared of hurting him anymore. And he...he kind of likes my teeth."
Lorna giggled. “Most guys don’t. You must be very careful with them.” She could imagine a couple nice uses for them, but Match was supposed to be invulnerable, wasn’t he? Oh, but that meant her teeth wouldn't hurt him. “I guess you’re dating the right guy.”
“Yeah, careful not to break them off on his rock hard...anything,” Mavis quipped, smirking like the cat in the cream. She nodded. “It’s kind of perfect.”
Lorna was about to die of giggles. It was just too much. Good thing they were at a red light. “Awww, you did learn something from us!'
Mavis huged Lorna's waist, pressing her blushing cheek against her friend's shoulder. The instinct to bite still fluttered in the back ofher mind like a moth caught in a spiderweb, but she turned it into a quick kiss instead. "I'm still learning. But if Match still wants to experiment after we've figured ourselves out, maybe you and Alex could teach us a few things."
Lorna smiled at the kiss, and giggled at what Mavis said. “You know we’d be happy to.” She felt very lucky to have her messed up little family.
Mavis felt a warm, fuzzy feeling, mixed with butterflies and tingles at the thought of the adventures that may or may not await her. Any which way the wind blew them, she knew it would all work out all right. "I guess I better stop distracting my driver. At least until the ride has come to it's complete and final stop."
“I’d appreciate that.” Lorna said with a laugh. They weren’t that far from the club, anyway. She parked and slid off, helping Mavis do the same. If her hands wandered a bit it was only to be playful. “Let’s go turn some heads.”
Mavis didn’t mind the playfulness. She knew it wouldn’t lead anywhere precarious unless desired and agreed upon by all. Besides, she had long since discovered that she liked being affectionate with her friends. “Let’s!”
Lorna put her arm around Mavis’s waist as they headed into the club. The music was audible from the street, and she grinned widely as they made their way in and paid the cover. “You want a drink before we dance?” She yelled.
"I'll probably want one after," Mavis said, "what about you?"
“After works for me! I just want to dance.” She needed it after the drama with Scott and the constant reminders of how shitty her new roommate’s life had been back home. “Let’s go to the techno floor!”
“Okay, let’s go!” Mavis twined her fingers with Lorna’s, and pulled her toward the dance floor. She was going to make sure her friend had a good time--hopefully without getting into too much trouble. “It’s just you and me tonight.”
