It had been a pretty long night and Molly Hooper was working a double. During her semi break, she decided to go home and not take a nap. Instead she decided to bring brownies. It was just from a box, but they were still good. In the end she did take a short nap and then she returned to work. Along the way she decided to drop off some brownies to the doctors that she liked more than others.
Her next to last stop was Dr. Magius. She knocked on his door and then stepped back, her arms full of brownies. When he opened the door, she smiled. “Hello. I come bearing gifts.”
Magius turned to see her and smiled, opening the door. “hello, Molly, come in. And thank you! It so happens that I have some chocolate milk those will go rather well with. Care to share some?”
His smile was warm and friendly.
She went inside his office with a smile and handed over some of the brownies. “I’d love some chocolate milk. I was trying to nap, but I couldn’t really. I’m on a double. So I made these instead. I can’t eat them all.”
Well she probably could, but that would probably be bad. “Thanks.”
“Aha. Doubles are always so much fun.” He nodded then and took brownies and lay them on a paper plate, then produced two empty cups and a large bottle of chocolate milk, pouring them both some. “How have you been, Molly? It has been a wild few months of late.”
“Yeah, tell me about it,” she said with a sigh. She smiled and took the cup from him with a small thanks. “It has been, but I’m all right. Nothing relatively weird ever happens to me, so I think I’m safe. For now anyway. How about you?” Though she had probably just jinxed herself with that one.
“A lot of odd things happen to me, like so. And he gestured, and a chair scurried forward to settle behind her. “Apparently I am a wizard now.”
Molly took a seat and grabbed a brownie. “A wizard? Oh how nifty. Can you actually do some magic here? Or is it just in your dreams?”
“I can, yes.” He grinned at her obliviousness, and then hmmed. “How about some hot fudge for those brownies?” And he spoke softly, old words, and a mug on his desk shifted, changed, and became a smaller metal cup on a towel, with steaming hot fudge sitting in it.
Just as she was about to ask a really stupid question about him having hot fudge in his office, he performed magic and her eyes lit up. “Oh my word.. that is extraordinary. Wow. You can just change things like that? That’s amazing!” she held out her brownie.
“I can. If I study the right spells when I have the time. It is like working and exercising. You build up a certain level of energy or tiredness, and then you expend it casting a spell.” Magius smiled as he gently ladled hot fudge on her brownies, making sure to stop as soon as she looked ready for him to. then he did hte same for himself.
It sounded pretty practical, but then Molly had no talent for that sort of thing what so ever. She grinned a little. “That sounds pretty neat. I bet it comes in handy.” She waved when she wanted him to stop and then took a bite of her brownie. Even better. “I actually feel pretty good about going back to work now. Thank you.”
“It has done so, alarmingly often.” He had not meant to use his magic as often as he did, of late and he hoped that changed. “Yeah? Good. You are a good worker and a good person, Molly. It’s a good bit of knowledge to know you will be working downstairs, and taking care of business.”
She was someone he trusted, and someone he felt was professional and hard working.
“I can imagine.” Not just with hot fudge but with some other stuff. That would make her life so much better. Sadly her dreams were super mundane. “Brownies make everything better.” She smiled a bit, looking a bit pleased with herself. “Thanks, I appreciate hearing that.”
Magius smiled at her. “They do. Well cooked delights that simply slide across the tongue and make it curl with joy.” He nodded as he ate some of one, mmming.
“And you’re welcome,” he said when he had a clear mouth, “for it is the truth.”
“I figured everyone could use a pick-me-up. The ones in the cafeteria are kind of um.. hard. Like a brick.” Molly made a face. “I won’t keep you though from your work, I just came by to drop off brownies and say hello.”
Magius rose then and smiled, extending his hand. “Perhaps next time it will be my turn to visit you.” He grinned at her warmer.
She shook his hand and grinned. “Any time you want, you’re always welcome down in the morgue. Enjoy your brownies. And your magic.” Molly waved and headed out.
