Billy was now faced, sadly, with the tiresome job of buying school supplies. He know what he needed and he had meant to go and get them earlier, but the last little bits of the list had not been released until just this week and that meant he had to descend o the box stores to get what he wanted.
Billy thus was in the large store, Largemart Or Buy-More, or DisneyMart, or something like that, and trying his best to avoid running into anyone, or stepping on any toes, or being run over. And yet still get his supplies. He had forgotten how crazy things could be at this time of year.
As he edged out of the crowd and into one aisle, he peered along it, hoping to find the items he had been looking for.
Shopping was Lydia’s very favorite thing to do. She loved it, even if it was just for back to school stuff. She could get supplies easily because that wasn’t the hardest part. The hardest part was finding clothes. And that was just because she tried on so many and bought so many, it was kind of ridiculous.
She was in the store with a shopping cart and looking with all of the other bunches of kids getting supplies. Eventually she got to an item that she couldn’t actually reach, so she turned to the person next to her. “You couldn’t hand me that up there, could you?”
Billy turned and face with a pretty smile, he nodded. “Sure. I can do that.” He shifted, eyed the item, and then snagged it with one long arm. :”There we go.” She looked familiar, and he hmmed, then snapped his fingers. “Lydia, right, from the valarnet? I’m Billy Batson.”
Even though she had giant high heels on, it didn’t mean that she was very tall. “Ah thanks, I appreciate it. The shitty parts of being short.” If she could get her heels higher without killing her feet, she would have. “Right. Lydia. Nice to meet you, Billy.” Funny how you just ran into all sorts of people that you knew online. “Getting ready for class?”
“Yep. The school put out a list for my classes that included very specific things this time, so, here I am. Looking forward to the start of class?” he was himself. He wanted to try to do even better this year and see if he could graduate top honors.,
“I hate when they include specific things, especially because most of the time, you never get around to using them.” It was a complete waste of money. And annoying. Lydia nodded a little. “I’m ready to get the heck out of school, so if one more year is where I’m needed then sure. How about you?”
“Very true. I just want to take my classes and learn from them, and move on. Extra details just make that harder for me and my class, all.” He made a face.”I’m ready to finish high school for sure and move on to the heavy duty stuff.”
He wanted to learn the important things.
Lydia could agree with that. “I should be out of high school already. I should have skipped a couple of grades, but my parents thought that I should have a well rounded education instead of going to college at age 16.” She rolled her eyes slightly. “So ready for this to be done. What do you want to do after school?”
“Psychologist, I think, preferably in counseling.” Billy nodded. “I want to help people understand themselves and others.” He liked helping.
“That’s not a bad one. Better than some others.” Of course Lydia had never been to a shrink before. Not yet anyway. Maybe once she was out of school. She stuck her stuff in her basket and smiled.
“Thanks. What do you want to do?” He wondered what her full on plans were. everyone seemed to have an idea, and he had only really formed his in the last year. He hoped he could make it. He hoped it went well.
He hoped.
For now, though, he looked at his list. “Need anything from the bags aisle? I apparently need a nondescript backpack that can hold my laptop or tablet for school.”
“I’m a math major. Though what exactly I want to do besides win a bunch of awards, I’m not too sure.” Thankfully that was one thing that she and her dream self had in common. She knew she was smart enough to do pretty much anything she wanted.
“They actually wrong that? Nondescript backpack? Wow.” People were kind of dumb. “You should get something outlandish. Because why not?” Freedom of expression and all that. Lydia was all for making a statement.
“I’m sure you’ll figure out your goals.” He nodded. She seemed to have her shit together, for real. He chuckled. “Yeah. I’m pondering the Belkin charger pack, to keep my stuff ready to use anywhere.” It was nondescript looking, but very cool inside.
That she did. “I’m sure I will. I’m not really worried.” In all honesty she wasn’t even worried about college. She’d ace that too. It was easier when you were super smart. “Ah right, the one that charges things up in your backpack. I don’t know why they didn’t come up with that sooner.” Maybe she should get one of those. But they weren’t that stylish.
“Good. Worries are sometimes too much crazy.” Billy nodded. “Yeah, that’s the one. I’ve wanted one for some time.” He grinned at the girl. “I can use it for work stuff, too.” He liked being able to charge his stuff up whenever.
Leading the way that way, he smiled as he looked around.
Her grades were good enough that she could go anywhere that she wanted. She was lucky that way. “Well then you should get one. Especially if you can use it for both places.” it seemed sensible. Lydia reached up and grabbed one for herself. “Thanks for getting me the stuff. I won’t keep you from your shopping.”
He snagged one and put it in his basket, then grinned at her. “If you need any more help, let me know. And good luck on the start of school.’ He nodded to her.
“Will do. See ya.” Lydia gave a wave and headed off.
