Jessie had been in her room looking over the documents for the building she was hoping to rent for her practice when she glanced at the time. Damn, it was later than she had thought. Standing she made her way to the door and headed down to the kitchen to grab a drink. Followed, as usual, by the ferrets Bonnie and Clyde. She could let them out in the garden for a toilet break too.
Reaching the kitchen she was humming softly to herself as she opened the fridge to grab a glass of juice.
Yachiru had located and broken into Gin’s apartment easily. She’d slipped in quietly, making her way into the unfamiliar space. Granted, she didn’t know where exactly he had left the money for her, but he would have made it at least a little bit challenging for her. Still, breaking in took no challenge or effort at all. She found the money easily enough too and was in the process of returning it to her pocket when she was distracted momentarily by the process of turning to leave when she caught sight of the ferrets that Gin had mentioned.
And then the girl entered the room. Ah, the roommate. Yachiru lifted a brow, curious, as she watched her in silence for a moment. She crouched on the counter facing the ferrets, the only thing that would have stood out in the darkness of the room was her bright pink hair. She’d be waiting there for a moment while the woman turned round from the fridge with whatever thing she had in her hand, and there was a grin on her features as she waited to see how the woman would react to finding a skilled infiltrator in her house.
Turning from the fridge Jessie noticed the person crouched on the counter, reacting instinctively she threw the juice bottle she had in her hand at the thief before grabbing the first thing she could. Which happened to be a spatula. “Who are you? What are you doing here?” she said, cursing herself for leaving her cell phone upstairs.
Yachiru just giggled brightly, highly amused at the girl’s reaction. “I’m not a burger!” she exclaimed in her slightly accented English, laughing in amusement. “You must be his roommate! Are you his girlfriend?” She asked in a sing-song voice, not even caring if she was pushing buttons on their relationship or not.
She hopped down gracefully off the counter, landing evenly on her feet and practically flowing as she jumped down to the floor. “He didn’t tell you that I might stop by?” she asked whiningly, never mind that she’d never introduced herself yet.
Jessie frowned at the words, but didn’t lower her spatula. She backed up when the girl hopped off the counter, “Who are you?” she repeated, “And why are you here?” though her tone was more hesitant now. Did this girl really know Gin? He hadn’t mentioned it but then they’d both been pretty busy.
Yachiru giggled again, showing no fear at all that this woman was upset that she had intruded into their house. “I’m Yachiru,” she introduced cheerfully, her tone bright and happy as she spoke.”And I’m here for this!” Yachiru held up the money in her hand, laughing again.
“You hungry? Planning on cooking with that? I could go for a burger! I think he’d want that, at least!” Never mind that she was usually referring to Kenny in that situation, but Gin no doubt would find this whole scenario entertaining for sure.
“Yachiru” Jessie repeated, lowering the not-really-a-weapon weapon slightly, “So you know Gin right?” she checked, “He knew you were coming round?” This was all very strange but the other woman didn’t seem to be threatening or at least like she was going to hurt Jessie. The ferrets were also sniffing around her.
The pink terror was still grinning happily and her hand was held up in greeting. “Yep, that’s me! And course,” she answered in a singsong voice, only answering what seemed like one of the questions, never mind both were true. She looked down over at the animals again, and she smiled brightly. “He told me you had these guys! And Snakey-chan said that I couldn’t take one home with me, so I guess I’ll listen!”
Jessie lowered the spatula completely now, “Right, okay. Sorry about that. I wasn’t expecting anybody and Giin didn’t mention a friend” she explained. She laughed softly, “Snakey-chan?” she questioned, “How did he get that nickname? And he’s right, no stealing the ferrets” she smiled.
Yachiru just grinned. Of course she wouldn’t expect her. That was just Yachiru for you. “Snakeychan, because he’s like a snake sometimes,” she answered simply, knowing that Gin didn’t like his personal life blabbered everywhere. “Though,” Yachiru continued with a more serious tone, “if I wanted to steal the ferrets I could.” She giggled a second later, her eyes sparkling joyfully after that one moment of scary seriousness.
“Right” Jessie said, wondering if perhaps this girl wasn’t quite all there. She didn’t really see anything snake-like about Gin but maybe it was an inside joke between the two or something.
“Well they’d put up a bit of a fight, they can be terrors when they want to be and I imagine Gin wouldn’t be too happy either” she pointed out. There was something about this girl which was unnerving, Jessie wasn’t sure she liked it.
Ahh. Maybe she was close to Gin, then. Yachiru’s eyes sparkled in amusement. Did he have a girlfriend? Sneaky, sneaky. “Maybe they would, but I can be a terror too when I want to be.” She grinned brightly. “Sooo!” She pointed to the spatula, then spoke cheerfully, “I’ve told you my name, but I don’t know yours, so I’m going to call you Spatula-chan, because that’s what you’ve got there! And you’d better be planning on cooking with that!”
Yachiru was curious, though, just how much of Gin’s life he’d told to this girl. Did she know he was an assassin and that Yachiru was the infiltrator? Somehow, Yachiru doubted it, but she wasn’t going to tell anyway because she thought that Gin wouldn’t be too happy. He’d deal with it, of course, but she couldn’t see him liking the fact that his secret would be exposed.
Jessie’s lips twitched a little before she smiled, this girl really was an odd mix of something dark and almost dangerous and a child. It was interesting and she’d definitely be asking Gin about her later. “My name’s Jessie” she told her, “I’m Gin’s new housemate” she explained, though the girl seemed more in the know than Jessie did herself.
“It’s a bit late to be cooking now, haven’t you eaten already?” she asked, not planning on making anything.
“So, spatula-chan it is!” Yachiru commented with a laugh, clapping her hands contentedly. “Just his housemate? You seem to know a lot about Snakeychan to be just his housemate.” And a lot she wasn’t ever going to know, Yachiru reasoned silently. “And if I said I hadn’t eaten, would you cook for me? I bet you make yummy burgers!”
The pink-haired girl stretched comfortably, her prize money tucked back into her shirt again. Strange that the girl never said anything about her taking money or anything.
Jessie rolled her eyes but the smile remained, “Just his housemate, we only met not too long ago” she informed the younger girl, “How about you? You got a crush he doesn’t know about?” she teased to see what reaction she’d get. “And no I wouldn’t cook but I would say help yourself to things to make a sandwich”
Jessie hadn’t forgotten the money, she just planned on telling Gin about it later and then he could deal with it. Yachiru was his friend after all.
“Yeah? How’d you meet?” In other words, was she connected to the Yakuza clan somehow? Yachiru doubted it, really. She doubted this woman knew anything. In fact...”Gin’s out awful late for his accounting job, isn’t he?” she remarked playfully, having known full well that Gin wouldn’t be here when she broke in.
“And me and Gin? Nope! He’d have to fight Kenny if he ever wanted a chance with me and he has no interest in fighting Kenny,” remarked Yachiru, as if that explained everything. “And ookay!” With permission now, Yachiru happily went about the kitchen as if she knew where everything was, putting together a delicious yet huge sandwich. She started to make a second and tossed it at Jessie. “Since I can’t eat alone, you get to eat, too!”
"We met online. I've just moved to the area and was looking for a place to rent and Gin offered to show me his place" she smiled softly, he was already a great friend. She shrugged, "Not really. He has meetings and things that go on late, I mean some parts of the world its early you know. International business and all that"
Jessie looked at Yachiru, "Kenny your boyfriend?" she asked, "sounds like all three of you know each other. You been friends for a long time?" she asked before accepting the sandwich with a smile and a thank you.
So this woman really had no idea about Gin’s true job, then. Well, who was Yachiru to tell? She grinned when Jessie took the sandwich though, then heartily bit into her own. “Kenny, my boyfriend? Ewww!” Yachiru wrinkled her nose. “Hmm...how do I explain Kenny? He’s...like a father to me, that’s it!” Kenpachi had raised her, after all.
As for her and Gin...she tilted her head skeptically. “Well, we’re friends, guess you could say that! But I make friends easily. We’re both from Osaka.” And that’s as much hint as the woman in front of her was going to get. International accounting? This woman really was clueless, wasn’t she? But then, Gin liked to keep people in the dark and guessing, so that worked out well!
“Oh” Jessie said, oops she thought, “Sorry. That’ll teach me for assuming” she grinned, happy that the girl didn’t seem offended as she bit into her sandwich.
“Fair enough, so what is it you do Yachiru?” Jessie asked interestedly, feeding some of her sandwich to Bonnie and Clyde (the ferrets) absently as she considered the woman in front of her, “You don’t seem like the accounting type” but then neither did Gin really.
Yachiru just grinned between her sandwich, finishing it up easily and quickly enough. “Hmm, that was yummy!” she commented happily, then tilted her head when Jessie asked her what she did. “Me? I’m studying at the university here, of course!”
It was her cover story and she was going to stick with it. Besides, she really was enrolled at the university as a student and taking classes in case anyone bothered to double check. Some people here might really want to do their jobs and make sure her story rang true, so that was a good cover story she thought. And now she’d met someone who was going to take her to Disneyland, at that! Speaking of! Yachiru flashed a happy grin at the other woman. “I’m actually going to Disneyland with this money here. You wanna come with?” She was sure Gin wouldn’t mind her siphoning a bit extra money to pay for his roommate to join her.
“Oh really? That’s great, what are you studying?” Jessie asked interestedly. In a way she would have liked to have gone to university but she’d chosen veterinary school which really had been the only path for her.
Jessie smiled, “Disneyland, that sounds like fun. I’ve never actually been before. Oh that’s okay, you don’t have to invite me. I’m sure you’re going with friends” In moving to California it hadn’t escaped Jessie’s notice that she was very close to Disneyland and was really looking forward to going but didn’t want to intrude on Yachiru’s plans.
“Computers,” remarked Yachiru simply, a smile still on her features. “It’s easy, really! But it’s fun! Well, you’re friends with Snakey-chan, so you’re friends with me, too! C’mon. He’ll even pay for us to go,” she added mischievously, never mind that Gin had probably not left that much money. She’d get him to pay one way or another, that or she’d find her way back in to take it when Jessie wasn’t around.
“Besides, Disneyland is boring with just two people,” admitted Yachiru happily, her eyes on the ferrets for a moment. “The more people that go, the better! So....whatcha doing this weekend?”
Jessie smiled at that, it was always nice to hear somebody call you a friend so easily. Even if it was a strange situation. “Oh he doesn’t have to do that. I can pay for myself” she protested, getting the feeling that Gin wouldn’t really have much of a choice in it if Yachiru had her way. She was a convincing one.
“Well it sounds like I’m going with you to Disneyland” she answered the question with a grin, “Do you drive or would you like me to?” she offered.
“Yay!” exclaimed Yachiru happily, clapping her hands enthusiastically at the idea of taking more people with her to Disneyland. “Course he does if he knows what’s good for him!” She said it so cheerfully that it would be best to take her seriously. Yachiru had no idea to let this go so simply.
“Hmm, well, I don’t drive. Usually, if I need to drive, I’ll ask Snakey-chan really nicely. Back home there was always Kenny.” Never mind that she was usually riding on Kenpachi’s shoulder. “But no, I don’t drive myself. Do you?” She looked up at the woman with bright eyes, eager to hear her response.
Jessie wasn’t arguing, she’d speak to Gin at some point and explain that while Yachiru may be enthusiastic he didn’t need to pay. She could always pay him back without Yachiru knowing.
“Is Gin coming along too?” Jessie asked smiling, “Either way I can drive us. I have a car, it may not be the best but it’ll get us there and back” she said, perfectly happy to get them there. She liked roadtrips and ones with new friends were always fun.
“Hmm...I dunno! He said he wasn’t interested,” remarked Yachiru happily, a grin on her features. “But, we can be best of friends no matter what!” She reached out and took Jessie’s hand in hers, a giggle escaping her before she could quite help herself. “And I made another friend. He’s going to come, too! He said he wanted to meet me somewhere before we go. Didn’t like the idea of me trying to find his house.”
Yachiru tilted her head a moment. “Will we be gone all day?”
Yachiru’s giggle actually made her quite endearing to Jessie, she did seem like a little kid happy she’d made friends on her first day at school or something. It was cute.
Jessie frowned a little as she listened, “Make sure it’s a public place okay? I mean people are pretty safe from what I’ve heard but I don’t want anything to happen to you” she cautioned.
“I’d imagine we will be, especially if we want to see everything” she confirmed, “Is that okay?”
“Eeee!” Yachiru let out a happy yell, her voice playful. “You care about me already!” She giggled. “I’ll make sure it’s okay, and don’t worry, I’ll be just fine.” She could handle herself in a fight, after all, just in case something happened.
“And yes! That’s perfect! Well, Mudachan!” She announced Jessie’s nickname in a cheerful, happy manner. “It’s time to go! I’ll see you on Saturday, nee?”
“Of course I care, I wouldn’t want you to get hurt” Jessie smiled, “But I’m glad you’re going to be careful”
Jessie tilted her head, “Mudachan?” she questioned, not entirely sure that was complimentary. “Yep Saturday it is, where shall I pick you up?”
“Yep, Mudachan! It’s short for spatula in Japanese,” Yachiru explained briefly, giving her a cheerful smile. “Since you tried to come at me with a spatula, that is!” She giggled a bit.
“No need! I can meet you in here Saturday, just name the time!”
Jessie laughed, “There are worse nicknames I guess” she smiled, “Okay, I’ll meet you here. Say around 9?” she suggested.
Yachiru grinned, quite happy that she’d managed to get a ride to Disneyland and she had friends to go with. And, of course, that Gin was going to pay for them. “Ee, sounds great!” she remarked, clapping her hands enthusiastically. “Okay, then, bye-bye!” Yachiru waved abruptly, and rather than dashing out the door like a normal person, she jumped out the window gracefully and was gone without a sound a moment later.
“Oh right bye” Jessie said rushing to the window as she jumped out but was gone by the time she got there. Well that was different. She had a feeling life was going to be far from dull with Gin and his friends around.
