Laura was tired the night after Faiza put her claws in. Her arms felt heavier, and her heart matched. Things were too dangerous, and it scared her a lot. She hated that Jubilee was so sad, too. She thought Cass’s offer to train her would help, but Laura knew she had to do something for Jubilee, too.
Which was why she threw Jubilee over her shoulder and dragged her into the bedroom as soon as she could. They both needed a positive reminder of the good things in their lives.
Jubilee had decided she needed to work out more. Push herself so that she couldn’t be used as bait again. So she was trying to lift weights. Key word trying, as she vastly overestimated her non-vampiric strength. She grunted as Laura threw her over her shoulder, but she didn't complain. "Okay maybe it's break time."
“Yep.” Laura noted, setting Jubilee on the bed with more care than she’d used to pick the girl up. “You don’t need to lift weights right now.” She pinned Jubilee down, her knees on either side of her body, so she was straddling her belly. She stroked Jubilee’s hair, jealous for the billionth time of how thick it was, and the nice texture.
“I just wanna … I want more than my powers. They didn’t help me, an’ you guys got drawn into everything. I’m supposed to be an X-man and I feel useless.” Jubilee started to trail off, her pulse quickening. She rested her hands on the girl’s legs and met her eyes. “Still feels awesome when you make me dizzy.”
“You’re more than an X-man.” Laura said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “You’re a gold medal gymnast, an amazing wife, and the hottest lady on the Internet. You and Logan keep telling me I shouldn’t be X-23, but you’re both obsessed with being your dream selves.” She bent down, kissing Jubilee tenderly.
Jubilee whimpered and kissed Laura back. “..I know. I know. Just feels like we’re gonna go down that path anyway. I just want to be Jubilee. The Hotness. But then this happens.” She frowned. “You know..one of the first dreams I ever had was of you. Us in Paris. I was a vampire but I’d never felt more alive.”
“It won’t happen again.” Laura promised. “I’ll keep you safe. We’re better together than apart.” She slid down Jubilee’s body, so she could lift the pinned woman’s shirt up. “I don’t want to talk or think about the dreams. I’m here and you’re here, and right now that’s all that matters.”
The Hotness closed her eyes, arching under Laura’s touch, and let the younger woman smooth away her fears and her depression. She missed that feeling of happiness. She hated looking over her shoulder. She just wanted to have fun.
Laura bent down and blew on Jubilee’s belly. She knew it would tickle and make her laugh, which was what Laura really thought her wife needed.
Jubilee shrieked with laughter and squirmed under Laura’s lips. “You sneaky little...sneak!”
Laura grinned, nibbling on the skin below Jubilee’s belly button. “What are you gonna do about it?”
“Uh.” Jubilee responded, her brain shutting down as she resisted the urge to kick her foot like a puppy. She failed.
Laura giggled, tugging Jubilee’s pants off. “That’s what I thought.” She nipped her way down Jubilee’s belly, spreading Jubilee’s legs as she went. She wanted to show her wife how thoroughly she appreciated her. Beside, leaving Jubilee a mewling puddle of happy all over the bed was her favorite thing.
"Uh...." Jubilee repeated, before she was turned into a shuddery puddle of mewls and gasps, and Laura was chasing away any thought that didn't have to do with the here and now, and how much she loved Laura and how much Laura turned her on.
Laura giggled as she finished, kissing Jubilee’s thigh softly. “Love you, Hotness.” She crawled up the bed, cradling Jubilee in her arms.
She wrapped her arms around Laura and held her close, the racing of her heart slowing as she caught her breath. Her cheeks were damp with sweat, and even some tears. “I musta done something...good...really good…to find you. Never thought I would y’know?”
“I didn’t think I would find someone to love, either. I didn’t even really understand what it was when we first met.” Laura stroked Jubilee’s back, meeting her eyes. “We’re both lucky to have each other.”
“I thought it would just be… sexxors. I tried so hard not to fall in love with you.” Jubilee rubbed her back against Laura’s hand. “‘cause I didn’t think you would ever feel the same.”
Laura thought for a little bit, then admitted, “I might not have, without the dreams. She is broken, but some parts of her are less broken than she pretends.”
Jubilee wasn’t sure how she felt about that. She liked to think there was enough between them that it could have happened naturally. Eventually. But then she hadn’t realized girls were an option for her until the dreams made her funny. She hugged Laura tighter. “I guess I got through to her.”
Laura knew herself, and she knew what she was capable of. Before the dreams she wasn’t capable of love. Now she was. It was simple to see that the dreams were the cause. She wrapped her leg around Jubilee’s, kissing her slowly and passionately.
Eyes fluttering closed, Jubilee returned the kiss with need and love. Slow and gentle, with a fire behind it, speaking with her heart instead of her words.
Laura didn’t even realize how tense she was until Jubilee kissed her like that. Her whole body relaxed, and she sighed softly. She didn’t need sex to know that Jubilee loved her. These kisses were enough.
Jubilee pulled her head back, eyes dark and wet. She traced a heart shape on Laura’s shoulder, then simply kissed her again.
Laura returned her kiss, holding her tight. This made it all worth it. All the pain and sadness, the years of uncertainty and fear. Being here in this moment with Jubilee was worth it. She broke the kiss, pulling back enough to meet Jubilee’s eyes. “You’re the most amazing woman in the world.”
“That’s cause you make me amazing.” Jubilee snuggled into Laura’s arms. “Say, we should get divorced so I could marry you again.”
Laura gasped in horror. “Hush. Don’t even joke about that.” Her expression went back to sunny almost immediately. “But we could have another big party with cake. I’m all over that.”
“Big party with cake. Dealio.” She kissed Laura lightly. “You’re the best.”
“We’re the best.” Laura corrected her, kissing her playfully. “And we’re also hungry. Let’s have grilled cheese.”
