For all intents and purposes, women should have been just as intimidated by Roland as most men were. As it was, however, women were usually attracted to him in one way or another. He was unaware there was any sex appeal in his usual silence, but he found it very easy to get a woman in bed. In fact, it was them who always tried to get him in bed. It required very little effort on his part, aside from the love making which, judging from their reaction, more than did the job.
What separated Roland from a lot of men was he was never put into the good mood that sex seemed to put men. So, even though he'd been in the warm bed of a woman the night before, one would be none the wiser. He'd kissed her this morning before he went to work, but he hadn't smiled at her, and he was uncertain if her blush had been embarrassment or arousal. Maybe a mixture of both.
Roland had no guitar, but he'd decided on learning to play anyway. Charlie was at the same gazebo, or said he would be. Roland brought two lunches with him of his usual beef burritos from a Mexican food stand. They were wrapped in foil and Roland carried them in a plastic bag that said 'Thank You' several times over and walked to the gazebo to if Charlie was there yet. No 'I Just Had Sex' pep in his step whatsoever, no evidence in his stride. The same could not be said for the dark circles under his eyes.
