There were three episodes left to shoot, and five left to air. Natasha was preparing herself for the mental fortitude she’d need to get through the next few weeks. Emotional, for her cast and crew and saying good bye. Physical, because it would be the most dangerous and difficult set of stunts in her career. The death of the Black Widow, and no one knew it was coming until the final episode would be shot - she needed the reactions as fresh as possible.
Maybe she enjoyed taking over creative control too much.
Match smiled as he looked around. Being called to be a small bit part, with one speaking line, in the last run of Black Widow? Seemed amazing! He was a fan of the woman and the series, and he had agreed instantly when his agent told him. It was a small part, and probably he would never be recognized, but it was his first acting gig since theater in high school.
Waiting on the set, after the first shoot of the scene for the second with different angles or something, he felt nervous. He was dressed as he had been for the role, which is to say, in a pair of skintight leather pants, and currently he was sitting in front of a fan, and drinking lots of water, just trying to not freak out that he was actually here.
Natasha walked past him, script in hand and in full costume. For the final season the Black Widow had taken to wearing a black and silver ensemble. Mostly black, with silver highlights. Previous season events had let to her character growing more and more bold, with occasionally disastrous results.
Matchy gaped as she passed. Holy cow, Natasha Romanoff! She was just as hot in real life as she was on screen and somehow, waiting to be on set was much more real than when he had been in a minor part in a scene with her, and others.
He swallowed, eyes wide. “Wow.”
“Hmm?” She turned to look at him, green eyes a lot harder than any actress should have by right. It was almost as though she and the character had become one. And there were many days where that was true.
Match flinched and swallowed, and smiled faintly. “Sorry, Ma’am. Didn’t mean to bother you.” That darker glint, it reminded him of what he saw in his own eyes sometimes, in the mirror, when he felt the dreamside showing through. THat Match was a lot more… frightening, really.
“You just startled me, that’s all.” The hardness evaporated, mostly, and was replaced by a smile. “You’re the henchman for this episode, aren’t you?”
“Yes, ma’am. Henry the Eighth. “ He grinned. He was a fan of bit parts, and the first seven Henrys had been oddball characters, mostly dying in the first episode they appeared in. As his did not die today, he might even appear in one of the very last episodes. To die, but still! “So far, it’s been pretty darn fun.”
He smiled to her. “How are you doing?” She had been magnificent out there.
“Ready for the day to be over, and yet not. Each day ends and we get closer to the end. I wonder if I made the right decision.”
“You did. Don’t second guess yourself now. Going out on top is far better than any other way. And even when this ends, it’s only one piece of your life, right? There’s more yeah?” He smiled at her, feeling something like boldness sneak up on him. He was still intimidated by her, but she was human and he knew those feels.
“It’s a very big piece of myself I’m leaving behind.” She smiled lopsidedly. “But it’s time. It has to be.”
Match nodded. “Not leaving behind. Transforming. You’ll build something new. You always do.” He had followed her career. He was a fan, what could he say?
“I just hope the fans give my next few projects a try. I do intend to return to TV.” She flashed him a smile. “One could say my first movie is a backdoor pilot.”
Match grinned. “I’ll be cheering for you. I’m a fan, and not usually one for acting.” He nodded to her. “Whatever happens, I hope you find work that makes you happy.”
“I think it’s because I really just like making a television show.” Natasha leaned her hip against a prop. “You seem to be doing well enough.”
Match chuckled. “It goes up and down. I'm a writer first, but right now, I’m making more money modeling, which is giving me time to write and paying for school. My agent got me this job when he heard about some slots opening for small parts in the show’s last few episodes. I just hope this will help me be a better writer.”
“Sometimes it helps to be in the shoes of the people who are turning your pages into reality,” Natasha agreed, her smile growing more genuine.
Match nodded. “I’ve already thought of three new scenes, and two new ideas for one character, as well as a new character for the next book, if I get it written…” he grinned at her, eyes alight;. “I finally sold a second idea for a book and now I just have to finish it.”
“That’s the hard part. But I’ve written a lot of scripts for this show since I took creative control,” Natasha said. “I think that might be easier than a book!”
Match grinned. “Probably, but with different problems. I was thinking about a script, and how it would work for this sort of show, and seeing how I would have to change it, add in the movements and so on. It would be an interesting challenge.”
“Scripts change from day to day and even hour to hour. It’s interesting, and quite a bit of fun. What sort of show are you planning?”
“Really? Cool. “ he hmmed, then grinned, and started telling her about the idea for a spy who was not a spy, but instead just a man who, because of a series of misunderstandings, knew and did things that made him sound, act, and look exactly like a spy. It had been done before, but not the final twist, that at the end, it all turned out to be a play, that the not!spy was indeed a spy, working for someone no one knew, who got away with valuable intelligence, vanishing without a trace.
Not an original idea, but it felt interesting to him.
It seemed interesting. “I could see how that might work. At first I thought you were going for a comedy, which would also be interesting.”
“A comedy of errors? That could be fun. In fact… “ His mind spun an idea. “It could be two episodes. The first the comedy where the guy is not a spy, or seemingly so and all these silly accidents happen, and propel him or her into being spy like.” He nodded. “The second could be the dramatic reveal, where the whole thing is shown to be a fake-out, revealed from someone else’s pov. Kind of like the movie the Usual Suspects.’
Natasha chuckled.“A mini-series? That could work. Or a movie split into two smaller stories, that’s been done before, to great effect!”
“It could be…” He nodded. “I’ll have to write it out more full when i get home.” He smiled to her. “Thanks!” He chuckled. “Looks like they’re finally ready to start shooting again, I’d better head over for touch-ups.” He shed the wrap he had been wearing, folding it to the chair and nodded to her as he headed, shirtless, toward make-up. “See you onstage.”
“I’ll see you in a view. And Match.” She tried to know all the names of the extras. “I’m sorry ahead of time for the beating you’re about to receive.”
Match laughed as he went. “No worries. It sounds like fun!” he would know the difference later. But for now, he was enjoying himself.
