Raven didn’t know what she was doing here. Practicing her shifting, mostly, but also hoping she could get close to the singer and perhaps get either some information or money out of her.
She slipped backstage, having taken the face and ID of a handsome fan. She even copied his smile.
Her dreams might be strange, but there were so many advantages, as long as she didn’t spend more than a few hours in one shape.
Jillian was never above putting on a little impromptu concert, she loved getting the chance to perform and sing! And of course, she loved the attention, too. She tried not to lie about that too much, because Jesus didn't like liars.
The local club had been kind enough to offer her a set when she'd shown up to check the scene out, and how could she refuse? Now that it was over, she was daydreaming about getting a gigantic shirley temple and asking someone to dance with her.
She bounced backstage and started heading through the area towards the front of house, grinning at various people who waved at her on her way out.
“Hey,” Raven said, managing to cut in front of Jillian. “Your voice is so amazing.” She pushed long bangs out of her face. She resembled a young man from Jillian’s age group, with big grey eyes and a goofy grin.
"Aww, thank you, sweetie!" Jillian grinned brightly at the man in front of her, who was definitely cute, "I just love singing, I'm very lucky that God gave me a voice good enough to pull it off!"
“It’s so perfect.” She grinned shyly, ducking her head and trying on shy guy for size. It was kind of fun. She wondered how much she could fool the girl. “Your voice is so pretty and so are you.”
It was absolutely adorable. Jillian loved shy guys that got all flustered around her. She wasn't even that pretty, not in the sense she wished she could be. But that was the way of everything in the world - even people who loved their lives and tried hard to be themselves wished they were someone else sometimes.
"Well you're pretty cute, too, you know? Everyone's got something about them that makes them pretty and something in them that's absolutely perfect."
He looked like she’d just given him a million bucks! Raven knew she’d chosen well. The poor boy would wake up feeling confused. She had an idea though, if this didn’t pan out. She’d just go back to him as Jillian...
“Thanks. I had no idea you were so nice.”
"There's no point being a big meanie, the world is scary and horrible out there, and some people are mean enough. I know they say that being famous changes you! But I don't want it to change me," Jillian said, smiling so widely that her eyes had almost disappeared.
Then she giggled a bit, and added, "Gosh that sounds like I rehearsed it or something, but it's the truth, I swear!"
“You really are wonderful... hey... do you wanna get lunch?” He covered his mouth with a hand, like it had just slipped out without being planned.
"Oooo, well... let me just check my schedule," she replied, with a bit of a wink. It wouldn't hurt to make some friends in town and getting lunch somewhere was chaste enough. The rumour mill would do what it did but feeding it a little was expected, as long as it wasn't too scandalous.
Raven had every intention of making it scandalous. Or at least trying. She wanted to see how much trouble she could get into, after all. “Awesome!”
Jillian pulled out her phone and tapped away at it, pulling up her schedule to see what she had planned for the day. There wasn't actually much on it since she'd cleared a lot of time to get settled in and new recording wouldn't start for weeks, but it was important to check!
She put it away and nodded, "I've got some free time right now!"
The ‘boy’ grinned happily. “This is the best day EVER!”
"Heee, well, I don't always have time like this, but you're here and you're nice, and I do have time. So... where do you want to go for lunch?" Jillian suddenly realised she was starving.
“I know just the place,” Raven said, fidgetting with faux nerves. “Do you like Mexican?”
"Mexican is soooo fattening, I'd have to do eighty stomach crunches every day for a month to work it off, but..." Jillian giggled and stomped one foot on the ground, pointing upward like she was making a decision that would change the fate of the universe, "It is also super delicious, so it's worth it! Do you have a car? We can take mine, if you don't, or you can drive there and I'll follow you!"
“Well I’m sure there’s other ways to work it off that are a lot more fun,” she said, then quickly stammered. “I mean. uh. Never mind. Can we take your car? Mine’s out of gas…”
"Oh no!" Jillian started heading for the exit, waving at the various people that had gathered and blowing a few of them kisses. She expected the shy boy to follow her, and hopefully he was!
"Well, we should get your car taken care of, that's important! I can call triple A for you, maybe?"
“That’s okay! I can get later.” He was quick to answer as he was quick to follow, with appropriate starry eyes at the singer.
"But what if we forget to fix it later? Oh no no no, I insist. It won't take that long, right?" Jillian was out on the street now, and peering around for the boy's car, "Where did you park, sweetie?"
The boy frowned, and then rubbed the back of his neck. “...I uh… I lied. I wanted to impress you, I don’t have a car.”
Jillian frowned, and shook her head. She didn't like it when people lied to her, even if she did a lot of schmoozing in her business and lying was one of the fundamentals of that. It was the part about being famous she hated the most.
She turned and placed both of her hands on her hips, "Well that isn't very nice, is it, Mister? Why would you think that being anything less or more than yourself would impress me?!"
He hung his head, like he’d known he’d blown it with his dream crush. “It’s just you’re so famous and beautiful and nice and...I didn’t want you to think I was a loser.”
"Do you know who the real losers are?" Jillian replied with a bit of a long-suffering sigh, "The real losers are people who think they have to be something more than they are just to be accepted by their peers."
She reached her hand forward and poked the boy on the chin, "Don't be like that! Just be you."
Raven blushed at Jillian, looking at her with adoring eyes. “You’re...you’re so amazing…” He was clearly in crush with her.
It was adorable, "Awww, I forgive you. Now come on. We'll get some mexican food and you can tell all of your friends on facebook about how you had burritos with Jillian Pufka."
She took the boy's hand and lead him off to her car.
And unfortunately for Raven, all she had was burritos with Jillian Pufka.
