Obi-Wan is aging surprisingly well (obi1) wrote in valarlogs,
The duality Loras saw was the vast and widening disparity Obi-Wan knew lay between the self he was supposed to be and the self that he was. No. He was no longer than man either. He was some kind of hybrid, a deformed experiment. How was he, 'a kettle boiling on the stove'--an analogy a old friend had once used--supposed to become as stoic and self-possessed as a the man he transformed into night after night.
And did he really want to be that man?
Obi-Wan squeezed his eyes shut at the instant of Loras's touch, for a moment in even greater pain than before. Compassion was born out of kindness, and he'd never done a thing in his life to deserve kindness from anyone.
But he turned to look at Loras across his shoulder. And finally, he turned around.
