Mac grinned as he saw Lorna and charged down the steps of his porch, hugging her tight and sweeping her up into whirl of a hug. “Hello, Lorna.” He nodded and then led the way toward the house, where the smell of apple fritters baking wafted out of the screen door. “You’re in time for lunch dessert.”
Lorna laughed when Mac hugged her, squeezing him back tight. “Hi!” She laughed and wobbled when he put her down. “I have good timing. It smells like awesome and fried things.” She grinned up at him in approval. “How’s married life going?”
“That’s because the awesome came with you and fried things are waiting for you.” His eyes twinkled at her. He was fond of Lorna, and led the way in. “Very good. The honeymoon was good, and married life is even better than engaged life.” He smirked. “How's married life treating you?”
He led the way into the kitchen, inhaling the scents.
“Pretty good. It’s like not being married but I have to remember how to sign my name. We have a new roommate and he’s driving me a little crazy.” She admitted, bouncing behind Mac as they headed toward the kitchen.
Mac laughed and nodded. “Sounds about right.” Then he blinked. “Who is it? And why is he making you crazy?” He drew the fritters out, and smiled as he laid them out to cool for a bit.
“He’s related to Alex, like a second cousin or something. He’s an underage kid with a broken arm. Alex is convinced he got it from his dad, and his few lucid moments between pain pills are kind of backing that idea up.” She sighed and took a seat at the table. “I’m worried about him.”
Mac winced and nodded. His face clouded at the news and he hugged Lorna, before serving them both fritters. “Sounds like you got reasons.”
He hmmed and nodded. “I’ll send home fritters for all.”
She smiled. “Good, we need to shove as many calories into him as we can.” She worried about how much pain he was in, but she knew that was all part of the process. “I broke my arm once as a kid, that hurts like heck.”
Mac nodded. “I did that twice. Got an apple pie for you to take home, too..” He grinned at her.
Lorna grinned. “Oh, Mac, you know exactly what to say to cheer me up. I’d love a pie.”
Mac ruffled her hair as he went to the fridge and peered in, then pulled out a freshly made pie. “That’s because you like good food. And appreciate it.” He smiled as he set it down in a box for her.
“How has everything else been going?”
“Pretty good! Match and Mavis are being adorable at each other, and I finished the blanket for Scott and Emma’s baby. When should I get started on one for you and Tonks?” She gave him her most innocent face when she asked.
“Good! “ Then he laughed. “Give us six months at least, maybe a year, then you can ask again.” It might happened before then, he knew, but that was their plan, anyway.
Lorna giggled. “Okay. We want to enjoy being married for a little while, too.”
Mac chuckled. “Sounds good. Maybe we can revisit the idea for both couples in a year.” He nodded. Who knows what could happen in a year? Six months ago he had lived in another state, and been single, and far from his sister. Now he was close with her, married and running an orchard with new employees and memories belonging to a pony.
Lorna nodded. “I think that’s a good idea. I’ll be settled in properly at the Ranch, then.” She tore into a fritter, groaning softly. “This is amazing, Mac.”
Mac smirked. “Glad ya like it.” And he started to eat one himself, grinning.
