Amy was in the Farmer’s Market, looking around at the different stands and stalls. She paused when she saw the Apple Stand, and headed over. She was already carrying a big bag filled with fresh fruits and vegetables... and honey. She loved honey.
She stopped in front of some red apples and started to poke around at them, trying to find the best ones.
Mac smiled at the woman who was wandering and peering at the apples. Quickly realizing what she was doing, he chuckled,a low deep sound. “Those two to the front there, are the best of the best, young lady.” He nodded.
“Yeah?” Amy asked, giving him a grin. She reached forward and picked one of them up, and lifted it to smell. An appreciative sigh escaped her. “I love apples.”
Mac smiled to her and nodded. her comment drew a warm grin from him. “Good. Apples are one of the best fruits out there. Do you cook them?”
“Nah, I just eat them!” Amy said, giving a little laugh. “I’m not that much of a cook. Though, I have to stay away from them, really. Too many apples are a bad thing for me.” Go on, Mac. Ask her why.
“Oh? Why so?” Well of course he would ask. He was Mac.
“Because my boyfriend’s a doctor.” Amy said, breaking into a grin. “Har har.” Wouldn’t want to eat an apple a day and keep John away!
“Aha.” Mac facepalmed. “That’s cute. Can he treat your bad sense of humor?”
“Believe me, he’s tried.” Amy said. “So, tell me about apples. Which ones are good for eating! Oooh, I could try making a pie!”
Mac eyed her, then slipped a paper to her. “This has a good recipe,. step by step instructions.” He chuckled, then showed her exactly which one were best for plain eating and which were best for pies.
Amy gave a bright grin and a “thanks” at the recipe, then folded it and slipped it into her bag. She moved around the stall with him, looking as he motioned to the different apples. “Alright, well, I’ll take enough for the recipe, and maybe a half dozen more.”
Mac nodded and quick and skillful hands gathered up the apples and slipped them into a cheesecloth bag, then handed it over and he name a price.”Won’t find better ones anywhere.”
“They smell absolutely fantastic.” Amy said, accepting the bag and handing over some money to pay for the apples. “I can’t wait to try and surprise my boyfriend with a pie.”
He gave her change, then nodded. “You’ll do great. And I hope you enjoy them, in the pie and out.” He chuckled. “Make sure to come back in a few weeks, too. More will be here.”
“Thank you.” Amy gave him a bright smile. “I will! I’ll do just that. Thanks.” She said, again, then turned to head away after waving and nodding, almost awkwardly.
