Who: Integra Hellsing & Alucard
Where: Her house, Their house
When: Backdated to when she got home from London
What: Reuniting
Rated: F for Feels
Integra had been overseas to see her Father in London. It had been a good trip, and she had been grateful to be home for a few weeks. But now she was happy to see the interior of her own home again. And to find Alucard and tell him how her father was doing. She unlocked the outer gate and eased her car into the driveway, waiting for the gates to clink shut behind her. Once that was set, she parked the car in the garage and headed inside. She stretched as she stepped inside, the plane had been cramped so had her car, and despite the tiredness she felt, she was wide awake. She flicked a light on as she hummed, stretching as she walked. “Alucard are you here?” she called out, her voice echoing through the rooms of the house. Not for the first time she sighed, her house was huge, who needed this much space?? But her dad had picked the house, and she loved it despite it’s size.
Integra meandered through the house - “Alucaaard!” she called out, smiling as she did so. It was nice to be home, among her things, and with her favorite person. No one meant more to her than he did - not even her father. That might be because the first memory she had of after her mother’s death was of Alucard’s face, peering at her with some measure of concern. Blonde hair bounced in it’s ponytail as she took the stairs down to the basement. “Helllllllllo?” she knew she could just text him but part of her enjoyed hunting through the house. It was almost childlike but there was a familiar feeling in such an act.
Alucard hadn’t enjoyed the last few weeks, he’d gotten used to Integra’s presence and worried for her safety while she was visiting Arthur. He’d like to hear how his old friend was but would be just as happy with a phone call or email. He’d tried to keep himself busy, learning every inch of the house - good and bad places to hide and the like. He’d been training too, hating the idea of being out of shape at all. But there had still been long periods of time when it was just him and his thoughts. Which was never a good thing.
Now however she was home and he could resume looking after her. He could hear her moving through the house and smiled to himself as he disappeared into the shadows as she came down the stairs closer to where he was. Waiting until she was in the room he closed the door behind her as he stepped forward, “Integra” he said before smiling, “Welcome Home”
Integra had enjoyed her visit but she was looking forward to getting back to class and training. It had all been put on hold for her trip. Integra had no idea just how much Alucard looked after her and had no idea how much it had decidedly sucked for him these past few weeks.
As the door shut she spun on her toes, hand raised in preparation to knock whoever was there's lights out. Surprising Integra rarely ended well. Bred nervousness. But hearing the voice she dropped her hand. " you scared me!" She said, laughing though. "It is good to be home. Miss me any?" She teased playfully.
"My apologies" he said, though the twinkle in his eyes and smile trying to breakthrough on his face said he wasn't particularly sincere. He was quietly impressed with her reactions although he'd have to find a way to make her work on checking a room upon entering it.
"Have you been gone?" he replied teasingly before allowing a proper smile, "Of course I did my dear girl. Its far too quiet without you"
"I don't believe that for a single moment!" She huffed with a roll of her eyes. Despite a very proper upbringing she had had enough American influence to loosen her sarcasm lever. Though after a moment her lips quirked into a grin.
"Oh only for a couple weeks. You know." A grin curled her lips. "Are you insinuating that I am loud ?!" She feigned insult, blue eyes going wide. Integra was generally a proper young lady but she let the mask fall with Alucard. He might be the only human
Alive who knew the real her. Not that she was too different behind the mask just a bit more playful.
"Weeks? Oh and here I thought it was just a few hours" he winked at her. The same was true of him, he loosened up in her company and she saw a side none other had the privilege of seeing.
"Insinuating?" He shook his head, "Not at all, I'm declaring it outright. And you know I wouldnt have it any other way my dear" he added as he opened the door, gesturing for her to lead the way.
Integra tried to keep up the facade of being angry but it fell into a grin. "Sorry. Shall I leave again, then?" A brow flicked upwards, a grin on her lips and a glint in her eyes.
"Oooh well then." She slipped past him upstairs again. She looked back at him with a pbbbst before she continued onwards into the large kitchen. She smiled as she dug through the cupboards. She produced a box of cheap pasta (she may be rich but who needed to spend a buttload on high end food when dollar store pasta was just as good? Only thing she didnt skimp on was meat) and sauce. She started making dinner for them. "Dad sends his greetings by the by" she put the pot over the gas burner to boil. "He says you should come visit sometime. I think he misses you."
Once they reached the kitchen he sat on one of the breakfast bar stools to watch her, knowing she’d give him something to do if she needed help. Her movements were sure and easy and the confidence she’d gained was good to see. They tried to take it in turns to cook but he had to admit to preferring it when she did, it had never really been something he’d undertaken with interest.
“I’ll arrange something” he replied noncommittally. He’d like to see his friend sure, but he wouldn’t leave Integra now. “Maybe I’ll join you next time you go back” he said lightly, that would certainly solve that problem.
She gave him a look, and a cocky little smirk. “Oh well then, I guess I’ll stick around.” she laughed sweetly as she settled in to make food. She was starving, something about a long trip that just made her want to eat herself out of house and home - probably because she avoided airport food and airline foods. “Is your own company that boring, Alucard?” she said with a smirk.
There was the great pasta incident of ‘11, and she never let him near the toaster oven anymore. But that was alright, Integra liked to cook. Even if she was no chef, she just enjoyed the whole act of creating an edible meal out of things. Although since coming to California she’d see so many people who were vegan or vegetarian and she just couldn’t wrap her brain around it. “You want to grab me the parsley from the cupboard?” she said as she grabbed a package of ground hamburger, using a knife to carefully cut it - she didn’t like microwaved meat so she cut pieces off when it was frozen and threw it in the sauce to cook.
“Don’t sound so reluctant!’ she waved a spoon at him. “He misses seeing you around you know.” she grinned. “But coming back with me next time is acceptable, too.”
“You better” he told her in his own growly tone, “Well it’s less intellectually stimulating when I’m always right, makes it hard to argue with myself” he told her with a smirk as he rose from the stool to retrieve what she needed. It felt safer in the kitchen when he was under supervision, he still didn’t understand what Integra found there was to like about the act of cooking but he wouldn’t complain while she fed him. He thought she was a great cook and was also thankful that she wasn’t one of those bloody vegetarians that were all over the bloody place it seemed.
“You know I hold your father in the highest regard” Alucard told her, “However I have little desire to spend ten hours on a plane with irritating people. I will join you so that you may keep such people away” he told her as he handed her the parsley with a flourish.
“I better huh? What are you going to do? Make me?” she grinned at him as she accepted the parsley. “Always right, hmmm? Fascinating.” she licked her lips a bit and mixed the parsley into the sauce. Once it was going, she put the pasta in the boiling water, set a timer and moved to sit down next to him. She paused in her trek to grab a bottle of wine from the wine fridge under the island, and grab two glasses.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him in the kitchen. Really! It was.. she rather liked the house in one piece and the fire department not at her doorstep wondering why the alarms all went off. Details! Integra found cooking soothing, gave her a methodical set of motions to do while she cleared her brain from whatever was clouding it. She passed him the bottle to open.
“I know, I know. You and people.” she laughed softly. “Do you think I enjoy spending ten hours on a plane with irritating people who I can’t walk away from?” she teased and leaned on his shoulder. “I shall accept your gallant offer to protect me from the annoying hordes of people and we’ll go see my father at some point later this year or early next. I’ve had enough of ten hour flights and airports for awhile anyways.” she grinned up at him.
“I’ll ask nicely” he told her with a small grin of his own, “Less with the disbelieving tone thank you, you know I’m always right. Listen to your elders and all that” He heartily approved when she retrieved the wine. There really was nothing like a good glass of wine and Integra’s education had started fairly young in that regard.
Honestly, he’d only set them off once. It had meant that she had learnt pretty quickly just how much of a disaster he was in there. For a competent man who had lived alone he really was quite ridiculous when it came to food preparation. He took the bottle and opened it swiftly, he was however good at some domestic things.
“You, at least, can handle them without punching them in the face. No matter how much you may want to” he added anticipating her response as she settled against him, a comforting and welcome feeling. “You know I would, whoever you need protecting against” he told her gruffly as he poured their wine, handing her a glass. “Anyway,” he moved on quickly, “later or next is fine by me” He ran a finger down her cheek as she looked up at him before ruffling her hair.
“I was taught to respect and question my elders, dear friend. Although I ask less questions of you because of experience.” she said, teasing lightly. Integra’s family was a family of wine drinkers - best wines were part and parcel of a good dinner - no one got drunk, but everyone had wine at dinner. Even the kids. Not that she minded, it had made her feel grown up as a kid to be allowed wine with the adults.
“Most of the time I don’t want to break a nail.” she said with a smirk. Nope, Integra wasn’t actually afraid of breaking a nail. It was just society’s expected answer, and it was as good as any to tell herself so she didn’t get assault charges dropped on her. Intelligent thinking this one. She closed her eyes for a moment. “I know you would.” she replied softly to his statement before opening her eyes so she could see where the glass was to take from him. The tender gesture made her smile before she rolled her eyes at the hair ruffle. “What am I, five?” she quipped at that one and nudged him lightly with an elbow before taking a sip of wine, attempting to look innocent. “Anything interesting happen here?”
It was comforting to Alucard too, to be here with her. It was thanks to her he hadn't lost himself those years ago, falling under the spell of an inquisitive but utterly adorable blue eyed child had saved Alucard. He owed her so much, more than he could ever repay and far more than she realised. He loved her more than he had ever thought he was capable of and would go to the ends of the earth to ensure her safety and happiness. Though he tried not to let on quite the extent of his devotion of course.
His lips quirked at that. She had asked so many questions of him when she was a child, questions he had answered with more patience and care than he ever had before or since. He'd encouraged her intelligence seeing her bright mind even then.
"Yes I'm sure that is your primary concern" he said dryly glancing at her nails. Still he couldn't complain that she wasn't beating up obnoxious people, that was his job after all and he would manage it in a way that there was never a threat of charges being pressed. He laughed then, "Ah Integra, you'll always be a little girl to me" he told her with a warm smile and a nudge in return. And she would always have him wrapped around her little finger as she did then. Maybe it was just his fate.
"A tad bit of craziness, people switching bodies and what not. Bloody stupid place I tell you" he grumbled before drinking his wine.
Integra was one of those annoyingly adorable children - had been anyways. A smile and a flutter of lashes got her things. Of course most of the time she had to prove she wanted something enough to work for it. Then she’d get extra goodies for being a hard worker and a determined child. It was half the fun of growing up a Hellsing. You got a few things handed to you then learned the value of hard work at the same time. She, however, had no idea she’d been the one to save Alucard from himself. She’d probably find it to be her proudest moment, her best accomplishment nothing in the world could top.
She held out her hand, nails were painted prettily but it was easy to see they weren’t manicured. They weren’t perfect. And they sure as hell looked a bit beat up. She widened her eyes with a smile. “Whatcha know, I’m not really worried about my nails!” she grinned as she took a sip of wine. “Ouch, Alucard, ouch! I am not a little girl anymore!” she laughed, although to be honest she was glad he was there for her still. Her lips pursed into a sweet smile. She got to her feet, lifting her head from his shoulder almost reluctantly to go drain the pasta and plate their dinner.
“Well that sounds... awkward at best. This is surely the strangest place I’ve ever lived in and I survived a year in New York City. I thought that was a crazy place.” she laughed a bit. “Is everyone back to normal, then?” she asked. “Here.” she laid a plate before him, sitting back down next to him. “I wonder why all the weird stuff happens here.” she mused.
Integra still had her adorable moments, at least in Alucard’s opinion. But he too had been careful not to give in to her too often. Still she had a good work ethic and didn’t expect things to be easy for her all the time. He was extremely proud of her and her strength.
He smiled as she held out her hand, definitely not a girly girl. And thank god for that. “Always” was his only answer to her denial as he placed a kiss on top of her head before she got to her feet. He refilled their glasses while she dished up their dinner..
“Well they’ve stopped complaining about it on that net thing so I think so” Alucard replied, not that he was overly bothered. They all tended to whinge a bit, it became tedious after a while. “Thank you dear” he said as she placed the plate in front of him, “Perhaps it is something in the water” he smiled at her, watching her from the corner of his eye as he enjoyed his food.
She smiled at him. Integra liked to work. It was gratifying to do something with one's self. She rarely expected anything from anyone. The house had been a gift from her father probably because it was better to keep an eye on her.
"Sometimes I wonder about this place but I can't imagine going back to London" she mused quietly a smile on her lips. "People do complain a lot on there don't they?" She looked at him for a moment before digging in to her dinner.
Alucard currently considered his work to be looking after her and as such it was the most important job he could have. Not that she had any clue of course.
“For all it’s bad points it’s still nicer here, well the weather is anyway” Alucard actually enjoyed it out here. London seemed too busy and dirty to him now. Here it was fresher, cleaner and definitely warmer.
“They do” Alucard said, “Some with good reason, most not. Let’s just hope we don’t end up the same way” he added before returning to his meal.
Integra broke into a small grin. “Oh yes. The weather here is lovely. Much better than dreary London, I swear it’s all rain and dark clouds half the time. And I’ve rather fallen in love with a bit of sun now and then.” she said as she took a bite of her dinner, pondering things. She still didn’t know what he did with his time, but she figured it was his business, not hers.
“It’s just like any other social medium, I guess, a place to voice your complaints and rarely be judged for them.” she shrugged slightly before finishing up her plate and leaning back in her chair, holding the glass of wine in her fingertips.
“Hey. When you’re done, come on.” she rose from her seat, setting the plate in the sink, she’d throw them all in the washer later, and leaned on the counter, waiting. “Don’t forget the wine.” she quipped.
He sighed, a long suffering sigh, to any other ear though Integra would know better. He stood and placed his own empty plate in the sink with hers before collecting his wine glass along with the rest of the bottle.
He bowed to Integra, “I am yours to lead” he teased her with a grin as he followed her.
Integra laughed softly at his sigh. Poor dear having to suffer the slings and arrows of the network. She cast a smile at him as he bowed. “You are something else, Alucard.” she teased back as she headed up stairs and out onto the second floor deck, plunking down on the sofa she’d thrown out there. The night stars were coming out over the ocean. She picked this place because it had a view, unblemished by the city behind them, offering a sparkling water front picture.
She patted the seat next to her. There was nothing more she loved than to curl up out here and relax and with him around it was all the better. “I missed this, I missed this view, the fact it’s not pouring rain or chilly.” she mused as she looked sideways to him. Sipping from her glass. “I don’t know what I’d do without this here.”
“I’m going to take that as a compliment” he told her with a grin as he sat down with her on the sofa. It really was an incredible view and one he often sat and enjoyed. It hadn’t been the same without her there to share it with him.
He nodded, “I know exactly what you mean” he sipped his own wine before stretching his arm out, wrapping it around her shoulders and around her encouraging her to lean against him. “It’s great to come out here and forget everything at least for a while”
“You can take that however you’d like, Alucard.” she said with a smile as she settled down and took a sip from her glass. The sea breeze washed over them bringing notes of salt to their perch. Integra closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before letting it out slowly. This was the perfect place. The best place of the house. And one of the reasons she’d picked this one out of the few her father had shown to her.
Integra laid her head on his shoulder. “I was mad at you.” she said after a few minutes, comfy against his side, legs tucked neatly under her. “By the by.” she added as she glanced out at the sea. “When you left the house in London, when I entered High School. I was so very sore with you!” she sniffed at him.
“I’m sorry” Alucard told her, the arm around her squeezing gently as he dropped a kiss onto the top of her head. “It wasn’t easy to leave you. But you were going to school, making new friends, deciding what to do with your life. You didn’t need me Integra” It had taken him weeks to actually leave, but he’d trained the new security detail as much as he could. He wasn’t going to leave until he was sure she would be protected and even then it had been one of the hardest things he’d done in his life.
She snuggled tighter against his side. "I still needed you." She said fiercely. The wine was making her less uptight and proper and a smidge maudlin. "You were more than my bodyguard, Alucard. You were my most trusted friend!" She tilted her head up at him. "You still are but oh you should have heard me yell at Father for letting you leave!" A smile curling her lips.
Alucard closed his eyes as she told him she had needed him, opening them as he looked down at her, “And you are mine” he told her honestly, it was less the wine causing him to open up and more that Integra was. He always found it hard to lie to her, even when he probably should. “I admit I feel sorry for your father, it cannot have been pleasant to be faced with your wrath”
Some of her earliest memories had been of Alucard. He had been there for scrapped knees and later the results of early broken hearts. Then he had been gone. Even though she had been a loving child there were few times when she had been absolutely demanding. Her tone had always demanded the truth from him even if had wanted to lie. "Damn right I am." Her lips twitching into a smirk.
"No he was the reciever of the strongest words I could muster. He must have hated it. " she'd never yelled at her Father like that again. "But I found you." She shifted so she could look him in the eye. "And you don't get to disappear again."
He had loved being there for her, she had brought him back from the brink and he would always be eternally grateful that she was part of his life. She would probably never know how much he owed her but she was the one who did know him better than anybody else on the earth.
“No doubt he did” Alucard nodded, feeling slight remorse that she had done that because of him. “My dear girl, I am going nowhere. You found me and I am happy to remain with you for eternity if it is what you wish” he smiled as he lifted a hand to brush her hair away from her eyes.
Integra was full of life now that everyone had been returned to their proper place in life. She owed him so much and would have been very upset with him had he lost to his demons.she'd have found a way to bring him back so she could kick his ass. But things were right again.
Her smile softened. "Good. You don't get much say in the matter." She teased before tilting her head as he brushed hair from her eyes. A faint hint of a blush staining her otherwise pale skin at his words. "Truly?"
“I didn’t expect I would” he smiled softly, hand resting on her cheek, thumb stroking softly. “Truly” he nodded, “I have no desire to miss you again as I have since I left. Your side, it seems, is where I belong”
Integra searched his face to see if he was telling the absolute truth. When she was satisfied he was, she smiled faintly and closed her eyes, leaning her face into his fingers. “Eternity is a long time, Alucard.” she mused as she turned her head to kiss his thumb. And with a smile that was all mischievous, she opened her eyes. “Then I’d be happy to have you.” a wry smile curling her lips. “Not that I can imagine life without you at my side.” she said still smiling wryly.
There was only truth to see as she looked at him, he would not lie to her. Especially not over this. "Not nearly long enough" was his response.
"We are in agreement then" Alucard replied with a wry smile of his own before he kissed her nose and settled her close against his side once more.
Integra nodded at him, trusting him not to lie to her. “Good. Means you’re stuck with me forever.” she smiled. Something just felt right at that, like it was the right thing to say. It struck a chord with her and it rang with truth. Integra would truly have it no other way. She laughed softly as he kissed her nose, a happy smile crossing her lips before she settled back down against him, cradling her wine glass in her fingers. Content to stare at the stars with him. There was truly nothing more perfect than this right now. It was as if things were just how they were meant to be - every stress from the day just melted away into peace.
