FINALLY! Audrey had a dream. Though, it wasn’t anywhere near what she was hoping for when the dreams finally came. It was wonderful at the time, but when she woke in the morning she felt awkward. The day at the bakery was helping to make her forget, but she thought she never could truly FORGET all the things that she’d seen.
And then James Wilson came into the shop and she was reminded. Her face paled a little, but she was able to cover the dropping of her expression with a slightly forced smile. She waved to him from behind the counter.
Wilson waved back, but noticed the pale skin, the sad smile. “Are you all right? Do you feel okay?” He moved closer, resisting the urge to take her temperature with the back of a hand.
“Yes, I’m... I’m okay.” Audrey said, then gave a nervous chuckle. She could tell him. They were just dreams. It wasn’t serious. “If I told you I started dreaming, you’d be happy for me, right?”
“Of course I would, unless you told me you hated them.” He smiled at her, spreading his arms. “Is it unprofessional for baristas to hug their customers, or do you all have a code where you’re mean and disdain our orders?”
“No no, I’m a big time hugger.” Audrey came around the counter and wrapped her arms around him, giving a tight squeeze. “This may be the last I ever get from you, so I might as well take advantage,” she added, only partially teasing.
Wilson hugged her tightly, and blinked. “What? Why do you say that? Did you shoot one of my patients?”
“No no,” Audrey finally withdrew and grinned up at him, sheepishly. “...I’m sort of married to Percy in my dreams.”
That didn’t make Wilson upset. That made Wilson laugh. His fiancé was quite homosexual, and didn’t often have female exceptions. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, just - I don’t think percy’s ever looked at a woman and felt any sort of attraction ever. And they’re dreams. You’ve got Merlin, right? You’re not going to to leave him for anything. Did you think I’d be jealous?”
"I was kidding. Mostly." Audrey said, grinning sheepishly. "I would never leave Merlin for anything. Besides, Percy is one of my best friends. Talk about awkward." She waved her hands in front of her, as if trying to wave away the memory of the dreams.
"I feel like I should tell him, though."
“You can. Or I can, if you prefer. Whatever’s easiest for you.” He hugged Audrey again. He just wanted to be the best friend possible to her.
Audrey gave another little chuckle, and wrapped her arms back down and around him. “Oh, man. I spent the week in Merlin’s body, it was so weird. And then, when I was back to normal, I started dreaming. Think it’s a coincidence?”
“Probably.” Wilson rubbed her back. “Either that, or the weirdness just kind of jolted your brain into remembering things.” Sometimes he felt bad; his dreams weren’t particularly strange, nor had he ever really been subject to any sort of strangeness yet.
“I don’t want Percy to hate me because of this.” Audrey said, giving a little laugh. “he’s not going to hate me because of this, is he?” She shook her head. “I just hope that it was a real one of those Dreams and not just some unusually realistic normal dream.”
“Why would he hate you for something you can’t control? It’d be like him hating you because you dreamed of eating a hamburger.” Wilson had managed to curb his carnivorous tendencies to while he was at work. “Audrey, it’s not like you’d steal him away, you’re just not the sort. Even if you weren’t with your soul mate already.” Wilson cupped her cheeks, smiling as he met her eyes. “It’ll be okay. You two are very good friends.”
Audrey took a deep breath and let it out, looking up into Wilson’s eyes. “You’re right. You’re right. Thank you.” She broke into a grin then, and wrapped her arms around him for another tight hug. “Okay. You go tell him all about it.” The grin was bright as she pulled back out of his arms. “...you want to take home some fantastic goodies to enjoy while you two have a good laugh about it?”
“You’re welcome.” He hugged her back again, petting her hair gently. “I’ll tell him about it and we’ll have raspberry scones and I’ll read to him. Typical night.” Wilson smiled and kissed Audrey on the forehead. “How’s your fiancé?”
Audrey laughed. “Typical night.” She said, grinning. Surprising how familiar she was with that kind of night. “He’s amazing. Planning our wedding. Keep Halloween open.”
“Oh, that’s a great day to get married. We’re thinking middle October, mid-November. His brothers’ girlfriend has a space, so we’re going to get married there. I have no idea what we’re doing for the honeymoon yet.” He made a meep face.
“I figure maybe I’ll let Merlin plan the wedding, and I’ll plan the Honeymoon.” Audrey said, grinning. “And I think we’ll probably just have the ceremony and the reception at the Bakery. Whatever Merlin wants, really, it doesn’t make a difference to me.” But it was a pretty amazing idea... a witch and the most famous wizard of all time getting married on Halloween?
“Let me ask you this - if you marry Percy in your dreams, were you a witch?” Wilson smiled. “Sometimes I’m jealous that you guys have such fantastical dreams. I dream that I’m an oncologist. Single, divorced three times, and I have a douche best friend.” Wilson laughed. “Not too far from where I was before I met Perce.”
“Yes.” Audrey nodded. “Percy was in Gryffindor House at School. I was a Hufflepuff. It was a dark war. And we got married. He’s a lot like he is here, and I’m exactly the same, too. I have a bakery and everything. That’s all I’ve got so far. Though, my wand showed up.”
“Percy has his wand too,” Wilson smiled. “It’s nice not having to do dishes.” He smiled at Audrey. He was pretty sure that he was the only non-magical person in his friends’ lives.
“It’s going to speed up so much around here.” Audrey said, glancing around. “If I can clean and sanitize things without having to get on my hands and knees and scrub.” She was nearly giddy at that prospect. “I’ve got to get some practice in. I don’t remember that much… maybe Percy and I can practice together.”
“I’m sure he’d love to teach you.” Wilson hugged Audrey again. “He really thinks of you as one of his best friends.”
“He’s not the only one.” Audrey said. She leaned in and tapped a kiss against his cheek, then pulled back. “Now… I really should get back to work.”
“You have a good day, and I’ll tell Percy and have him get in touch with you.” He kissed her on the cheek. “Have a good day, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, Hunny.” She moved around the pastry case to behind the counter. “Oh! Did you want to take home a couple of raspberry croissants?” She was already grabbing them from the case and putting them into a to-go box for him to take home to Percy.
He nodded, smiling and fishing out his credit card. “Thank you. Percy will be thrilled.”
Audrey pushed the to-go box into his hands and ignored the credit card. “My treat. For eating while you and Percy giggle about his and my Dream Marriage.”
“Oh, you should giggle about it with Merlin too.” Wilson smiled and squeezed her hand.
“I will. And then we’ll have lots of hot shower sex to compensate.” The grin spread, her cheeks flushed, and she gave Wilson a wink. “Come back soon, y’hear?” And with a little wave, she moved to help her barista behind the bar.
